Just returned from a short stay at the Le Meridien Versailles using Cash & Points through SPG. A week before our stay I glanced over the reviews. I was concerned about one that stated the cleanliness of the hotel was an issue. I contacted the General Manager and received a phone call back minutes later. Sandie explained the hotel was rated #3 on SPG's cleanliness list. She also stated the hotel was Boutique hotel, small loby, rooms were small, restaurant was pricey, and staff was excellent.

On arrival in front of the hotel, the valet explained that we should turn the corner and they would assist from there. Check in could not have gone any smoother, all staff highly trained and could not have been more accommodating. Room was a queen bed, no cleanliness issues. Wifi and TV were better than expected. I would classify the hotel as a 4 star, for the price a real value in Montreal.

This property is well managed, has a highly trained and courteous staff, and rooms to fit most needs.

This hotel is a reasonable place to stay if you are looking for something a little lighter on your wallet. The staff is friendly and helpful but this hotel needs a makeover. Whatever renovation occured 10-15 years ago was well done, but it is time for another. It is not what you would expect from a Starwood property. The junior suite I stayed in had a tired bathroom with unclean grouting and a yellowing jaccuzzi.

The location is great if you are seeking access to the western side of Montreal's downtown. Expect a boutique hotel feel. Would recommend if you are looking for a reasonably priced hotel in that specific location. Don't expect a luxury property.

Good with the hotel: Good and very comfortable rooms, friendly and helpful staff, good location.
Negative with the hotel: Could maybe need a face-lift from the outside.
Rate: 111,75 CAD (A excellent rate for such a good hotel).

We stayed for two nights in late July. We arrived with car and on the left-hand side from the hotel is a place where you can unload the car for 15 minutes. Parking is 27 CAD per day, but public parking is available only 3 minutes walk from the hotel at 15 CAD per day. We felt that our car was very safe at the public parking.

The check-in was very nice and friendly. The staff informed us also that the hotel has free tickets for the Museum for Contemporary Art and the Museum for Architecture. They also helped us point out what to see on our two days stay in Montreal.

The room was clean and nice, located on the 8th floor. A complimentary bottle of water was in the room and a coffee machine. I wrote a note to the housekeeping together with my tip that it would be nice with two package of caffeine coffee instead of one of each. I got three package of caffeine coffee. Highly addicted coffee drinkers as we are, that was a very nice gesture.

The neighborhood was calm and safe and by walking distance to downtown and good breakfast places. It took around 30-35 minutes for us to walk to the old town from the hotel.

Overall a very nice stay, we wished we would have stayed longer. Also excellent value for the money in our opinion.

Hotel was very warm and accommodating with friendly staff on hand. Close to all major attractions and the downtown area. Attended a couple hockey games at the Bell Centre and it was only a short 10 minute walk away.

For the traveller looking to be super close to the hustle and bustle of downtown Montreal, but not on top of it, then this place is perfect for you! We stayed 2 nights and would most likely stay again. We booked theough hotwire, so the price was very right.

There are both pros and cons though. Read on....

Pros:

Location, location, location! In the art district you are close to everything without being bombarded by the downtown noise and crowds. Shops and restaurants are all very close.

Staff: They were very polite and accomodationg. Our a/c unit was not working well, and upon inspection I found it was frozen solid inside. The maid looked after this for us without us having to ask a thing. Check-in and out were easy and fast.

Room: Bed and pillows were ok, not the best, not terrible. Great (crazy over-priced) mini-bar selection.

Cons:

Room location: Though it is not the hotel's fault we had thoughless loud door-slamming neighbours, it is clear from the hall layout that our room and the one next to us were to used as joining style rooms. Although there is no joining door inside the room the corner is designed to resemble this. Should you get a corner room with a door super close, ask to switch. You never know who your neighbours will be. Also, no mini-fridge in the room other than the mini-bar. Ice machines are older and slow.

Restaurant in the lobby: Way over priced, even for Montreal!
