“Excellent hotel overall”
Reviewed June 25, 2013

We experienced friendly and attentive service. No attitude from staff, all seemed fluently bilingual, though one sent me to a convenience store when I asked for a full service pharmacy. Rooms were spacious and clean. Bed was large and comfortable. Noisy late at night in second floor room near elevator. Easy access, great location in old Montreal. Free drink for each of us was a nice touch. Hotel felt safe as a function of many attentive staff at all hours. We would recommend and happily stay there again.

Room Tip: Second floor room near elevator was noisy from hallway conversations.

The hotel is in a prime location in the heart of the Old Town of Montreal. Although not directly on the water front of the St. Lawrence river it is a very short walk to the excellent promenade and marina.
Every member of staff that I came across provided efficient and friendly service. They all wanted to help as much as possible.
The hotel is very tastefully decorated. There is exposed brick/stone work, natural wood and subtle colours throughout. Local artists works hang on the walls.
Our room was large with a bed that ranks very highly on the comfort scale (it was about 7 feet wide). The bathroom was very spacious and well stocked with complimentaries.
Food was fantastic. For breakfast hot food could have been ordered but we chose to have the cold buffet as there was such a good choice, such as cold meats, cheeses, boiled eggs, fresh fruit, yogurts, pastries, toast, bagels, cereals. The evening meal in the restaurant, Verses, was superb because of both the food and the wonderful service that we had from our waiter (I am ashamed to say that I did not get his name). The meal came in a little on the expensive side but I thought it was worth it. There is also a roof terrace bar and bistro which is very popular with both guests and locals alike
We spent the first two nights of our trip to Canada at the Nelligan and I could not have ask for a better start to our holiday.

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear of the hotel may be quieter

Second time in the old Montreal area and first time here. Location is fantastic but what really stands out is the very attentive service especially at the concierge. They find solutions and go well beyond expectations.

The great thing about the Nelligan is its location, in the heart of Vieux Montreal. Extremely convenient to so much.

The bad thing is its location. Noise is a bit of an issue. We had a room on the second floor in the front. Noisy bar across the street, especially in to the wee hours.

But, if you are looking for peace and quiet, the heart of Vieux Montreal probably isn't for you anyway. Montreal is a lively vibrant city. And this part of town is even livlier. Not Times Square, more like, say Temple Bar in Dublin. The noise, crowds, and traffic are a part of what makes the place.

And our room is probably the noisest, being the closest to the street.

Like we will next time, make sure you get a room in the back, quieter, side.

The staff was very friendly and helpful, and bilingual. The lobby is a very nice relaxing place to chat and have a drink. Cozy fireplace. The rooftop terrace is very nice, though the view is nothing special.

We handed the doorman/valet the car keys on arrival and didn't see it until we left. That was a bit pricey, but worth it. We didn't need it, and Old Montreal is no place to be driving and parking anyway. Cabs and walking suffice.

The room was spacious and wonderful. Included a cute fake fireplace for atmosphere, and a bit of extra warmth on a chilly drizzly day.

A very nice hotel in a great location. Get a quiet room in the back and enjoy.

For our 10th anniversary we decided to splurge and stay at one of the best hotels in Montreal. We settled on Hotel Nelligan based on the reviews and we were not disappointed. At check-in they had decided to upgrade us to an incredible penthouse for our anniversary! The penthouse was amazing with a terrace overlooking the river one way and Notre Dame the other. After dinner, we came back to the room and discovered a personal note and chocolate covered strawberries congratulating us on our 10 years. They even gave us two drink vouchers for the bar. From check-in to check-out, this hotel bends over backwards to make you feel like you are their guests. I have never received such superior service at any other hotel I have stayed at. The location is in the heart of old Montreal making walking everywhere very easy. I recommend paying for the parking as part of the package they offer. The valet makes it very easy to park. The breakfast (also included as part of a package) was very good quality with fresh fruit, pain au chocolat, yogurt, and assorted meats and cheeses. All in all, a very memorable experience, mainly because the Hotel Nelligan worked hard to make it memorable.

I cannot praise this hotel enough. The check in is quick and easy, the conceriege is very helpful. In other words, the staff is great. The location is superb and is within walking distance to Notre Dame and all of the Old Montreal sites. The rooms are spectacular! Fireplace, king bed, wonderful bathroom and good furniture. Wifi worked great. It would amaze me if anyone had a complaint about this hotel. Highly recommended. If I go back to Montreal, I will not choose another hotel.

A fantastic hotel in the old port. It could not have been nicer. Great rooms and very comfortable beds with down pillows and duvets. All the staff were very friendly and helpful no matter how easy or difficult the request. With special mention for Melissa the concierge who helped in every way to make our trip so memorable - restaurants, car hire, gluten free advice on which hotels to stay in other parts of Canada.
We will definitely return to Montreal and most certainly return to the Nelligan.
With thanks to everyone.
