This is the best place to stay for groups of four or more! You can get a family suite that has a large kitchen, full size fridge, microwave, kitchen table, two bedrooms, be large bathroom and a living room for under $250 per night. It is on a small street located in the heart of shopping area on St.Catherine Street. The service is terrific. There is a pool on the top floor and a hot breakfast included with the room. This is where we stay exclusively in Montreal!

Based on our past positive reviews, we once again chose this hotel for a family long weekend break in Montreal.

it felt a bit like coming home. Everything was much the same as in my previous two reviews, with one or two exceptions.

The hotel celebrated it's 10th anniversary whilst we were there, and a decade is a decade. Things are starting to need a bit of an upgrade.

For the first time, I noticed some mould around the grouting in the tub. Some re- caulking would be in order here. The fridge was so loud and turned on and off the entire first night, making for disrupted sleep. Although a service person was sent up very quickly, and the fridge was somewhat silenced, it was still a disturbance I had not noticed before.

Other than that, all was very clean, as usual.

The beds however, are very hard. I thought I was the only one to notice this, but others in our party also complained. There is just no 'give' in those mattresses. If you want a really hard bed, then you will love these. The pillows also tend to be way too hard, if like me, you prefer a bit of softness about your neck.

The decor needs some sprucing up, too, and it could start with fresh new bed covers. Those old striped ones have certainly seen better days!

The lobby staff are just lovely - friendly and approachable and the valet service, spot on.

The breakfast room can be chaotic and is nothing too special. I recommend getting what you want and taking it back to the quiet of your room to enjoy- or providing your own in your suite.

Location is fantastic and it is easy to walk just about anywhere from the hotel.

Overall, an as always good experience and great value in Montreal.

We will be back if those mattresses are replaced with more comfortable ones!

Dear guest,

We would like to thank you for your very nice comments and we are very glad to see that you came back to see us for a fourth time. You are absolutely right, a decade is a decade and we have been working really hard to keep our property in top shape even though we have been running in the top 5 hotels with the highest occupancy rate for the past 6 years in downtown Montreal.

In the last five years we replaced our TV sets with new HD technology, we bought new mattresses, pillows & bed spreads (sorry you don’t like them but we’ll work on that) changed the work desk chairs, put in new carpets and redid the gym (making it bigger).

Since you are giving us the opportunity, we would like to let you know that we already started a complete renovation program of our washrooms; tubs, showers, floor & wall tiles etc. And at the same time we are also redoing our kitchenettes with new counters, cabinets, floor & wall tiles.

Again you are right, ten years is ten years and we will continue to do our best to keep our hotel in the best possible condition to satisfy our clientele. We sincerely hope to have the pleasure of having you as our guests for at least another ten years.

This was my second time staying at Square Phillips in Montreal. The location is great, walking distance to everything we wanted to visit, 10 minutes to old Montreal. Our room, the King Suite was ridiculously large. Actually could have accommodated more furniture. Bathroom was very large but counterspace was limited. Tons of closet space which was perfect for 3 women traveling together. Breakfast was just ok.. continental breakfast, muffins, fruit, toast, etc. Simon our concierge was very friendly and helpful.
Pool was nice, and the gym and laundry room were clean and a great bonus. I would have liked a whirlpool.
I would visit this hotel again, the price was great for being right downtown.

My husband, teenage son and I were recently at the hotel. Our room was a huge junior suite. We were very comfortable with the room. The breakfast was very good. My son and I used the fitness center and the pool and both were fine. The hotel's biggest asset is its staff. We were in Montreal for the first time and all the concierges were excellent. They were extremely knowledgeable and personable. Their suggestions, directions and advice made the trip memorable. It was cold when we were there which didn't bother us but we would love to come back in the summer ! Love Montreal and Le Square Phillips!

Thanks to tripadvisor reviews, I've stayed here twice and both times it was great. The price is right and you can't beat the location - everything is within walking distance: Bell Centre, shopping on St. Catherine's, Old Montreal, etc.

The only disappointment was their continental breakfast. There wasn't enough variety for me.

Oh, and like others have said, the mattresses are hard. lol. But, for the price and the location something like that can be overlooked.

My husband, 2 kids & I stayed 2 nights here recently. It was our first time in Montreal & we couldn't have picked a better hotel. It is in a great location-- near the metro, as well as walking distance (or short cab rides) to various points of interest and great shopping. We found our room and all parts of the hotel to be extremely clean. Our room was VERY spacious (which was a welcome change for a family of 4 who are use to feeling crowded in small hotel rooms). The kitchen was a great plus, as it allowed us to store our perishable snacks. Had we stayed longer I'm sure we would have made more use of the kitchen. We found the complimentary continental breakfast to be very nice with a good selection of items (yogurts, fresh fruit, muffins, 5 choices of cereal, coffee, 3 choices of juices, etc). The dining area was very pleasant and we found all staff at Le Square Phillips to be very friendly and super helpful to us English-only-speaking-first-timers-to-Montreal. And, although the pool was small in size, our kids really enjoyed going for a swim before bed each night. We did not use the fitness room but it appeared clean & offered several fitness machines.
The only negative comment I would make had to do with the beds. We all found them too firm & uncomfortable. But other than that, we were extremely happy with our stay here & look forward to future stays!

I wanted to give it 5 stars SO badly but I can't. :(
My family of 5 (including 3 teenage girls) stayed for 6 nights.
The location was amazing - steps away from McGill, short walk to several metro Stations.
The suite we had was HUGE - perfect for 2 parents and 3 kids to stay.
The decor was lovely, black out shades were terrific, large bathroom.
The staff was so friendly and helpful. The conceirge changed a dinner reservation for us when we were running late.
I have just a few negatives - the bathroom had absolutely no counter space. We actually moved a small table into the bathroom for all of our stuff.
It would have been great to have had a second bathroom, but alas...
Our shower was mediocre. The pressure was good, but the spray was weird and the tub didn't drain. YUCK! We asked numberous times to have it fixed, but either it never was done at all, or not done properly.
Lastly, we were terribly dissappointed with the "complimentary" breakfast. It doesn't say Continental which would indicate breads, muffins, cereals, it says Complimentary - just free. I should have known it wasn't going to be much when I couldn't find anything about it on the website. After 6 breakfasts in the hotel, we were really sick of all the bread & muffins. For the quality of this hotel, the breakfast should be better.
