“Great hotel, great location”
Reviewed October 23, 2006

We stayed here for my wife's birthday, and she loved the place. The location is great for walking to Old Montreal, and even up to St. Catherine Street. We had dinner in the bar (Suite 701) the night of our arrival. They have a limited menu there, but reasonably priced and very good. They also make a great martini!

We booked the King Deluxe room. It was beatiful -- exposed brick, and a 20+ ft ceiling. Based upon other reviews, I requested a quiet room, away from the bar. And, it was very quiet.

The service was exceptional all the way around. Valets were prompt and friendly. Front desk was prompt and polite, They even brought us a complimentary box of truffles for my wife's birthday.

The product in the bathroom was awesome, and that's not something that I usually care much about.

I can't think of anything negative to say about the place. We will stay again. Next time we will upgrade to the King Suite so we can get the big soaker tub!

We loved our stay at the Place D'armes. We were upgraded to the penthouse, so what's not to like! The room was obviously grand and beautifully maintained. I peeked into several of the other rooms and they were all very nice. We would have been perfectly happy in any of one of them. The staff were all very accomidating and helpful. We very much enjoyed the wine and cheese in the evening and the breakfast was lavish. We had dinner one night in Aix which was actually the best meal of our stay. That's saying a lot with so much good food in Montreal. Both my husband and I had a massage. They were great. We really enjoyed the steam room afterwards also. We don't care much for cold weather so we won't be there in the winter, but can't wait to come back in the spring.

My wife and I stayed at Place D’Armes for one night during a recent visit to Montreal. We booked a deluxe room with a double whirlpool bath, and we were not disappointed. The room was very spacious and the 15-foot ceilings made it seem even bigger. Our room was on the corner of the building and had four very large windows; so the room was very bright, when we wanted it to be.

All of the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. We missed the complimentary wine and cheese that takes place between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., but we still received a free glass of wine when we popped into the bar at 8:30 p.m. Our room rate also included a complimentary cold-buffet breakfast, which was really good. I highly recommend trying AIX, which is the restaurant inside the hotel.

I do have one gripe from our stay. Our room was located on the second floor of the hotel directly on top of the bar, which operates as a nightclub in the late hours. We could easily feel the bass originating from the bar. We were both very tired, so we had no trouble falling asleep, but if you are a light sleeper, you may want to request a room on the third floor or higher. Other than this, our room was super quiet.

All and all we had a great stay and would definitely stay at Place D’Armes next time we visit Montreal.

My husband and I just returned from Montreal. Based on all the great feedback, I booked Le Place d'Armes. Although it was a little pricey (especially with the poor exchange rate), we loved the hotel. It was right across the street from Notre Dame and within walking distance of all of the sites and attractions. I booked a king suite. It was a large room with exposed brick and fireplace. The bathroom was the most impressive part of the room. Not only was it spacious, it had an incredible shower and Jacuzzi tub. The only minor issue I had was the dim lighting. Very cool but not very functional. While we did not partake in the evening wine tasting, we enjoyed the plentiful continental breakfast each morning. Also, my husband had a facial/massage at the RainSpa and was very pleased with the service. All in all this is a great hotel. I highly recommend it if you're willing to spend the extra money.

Excellent room. Lovely lobby and public areas. Bar is a zoo some nights, loud and mobbed. Cancelled restaurant reservation downstairs because of bar noise above. Rooms are spacious, junior suite, and well priced. Our room was away from the bar and very quiet. Free continental breakfast is nice. Front desk service good. Housekeeping is inconsistent. Only complaint on room is you need a flashlight to read in most parts of the room.

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Place d'Armes for our 20th wedding anniversary and could not have been happier! Frederic (concierge) was very helpful in finding restaurants and even booked a horse and carriage tour of Old Montreal. Our room was gorgeous as was our bathroom.....with air tub and huge shower with rain head.
Classical music was playing in our room when we walked in....it was a celebration we will never forget. We will be back!! The hotel staff were fantastic to deal with......complete class act!
