“Very artistic hotel - excellent concierge services”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 26, 2010

This hotel is very modern and artistic. Beds were very comfortable and amenities plentiful.

The downside to this hotel is location. It is still downtown Montreal, but a good 15min walk from "old montreal". The hotel is located closer to the 'mountain' and McGill university in a trendy area of Montreal. The location is nice/safe/trendy/fashionable - but a little further than some of the other hotels to "old montreal".

The upsides to this hotel are in the services. You can arrange (for a fee) to have the bed made up with satin sheets. The hotel also offered an excellent restaurant and room service. You can also book spa services to your room.

Overall, the staff seemed eager to go above and beyond for their customers.

Valet parking was $30 per day, but service was prompt and courteous.

I would stay again.

This is a well-located hotel and by international standards the rooms are relatively inexpensive. Food and beverage prices are relatively high.

We had a luxury room which was of a fair size, with a good bathroom. The closet was large and very convenient. My wife much appreciated the full length mirrors.

Housekeeping is first class.

Montreal is a lovely place, but it isn't an international business centre and the hotel does not offer the Financial Times or Wall Street Journal in the breakfast room. I will stay there again but I'll ask for those newspapers when I book. Finally, it should be noted that the hotel charges an absurd CAN $ 15 per day for Wi-Fi.

Having read some of the negative reviews about the smallest rooms being tinier than a cupboard I booked Superior rooms for me and colleagues through Expedia. I found out on check-in that their so-called "Superior" rooms were in fact their smallest standard rooms, which are pretty much 200 square feet and smaller than than your average Tokyo hotel room. A king size bed barely fits in the room. They seem to have a little scam going on where they suggest upgrading for a nightly fee to a "much better" room for people who booked through external websites. Now everyone in my company is complaning about the size of their rooms and not wanting to expense the upgrade as we are cutting back on travel costs. I would say avoid this hotel for business purposes unless you are absolutely guaranteed not to be in their smallest rooms. Their breakfast is also very bland for $34, I would recommend Cora or Eggspectation which are both walking distance.

Great location. The room was clean and spacious. The bath tub was very small for a deluxe room. The staff was nice. I loved the L'Occitane products.
Too bad there was no swimming pool.
The food was okay and pricey.
Overall, I had a nice stay.

A few rooms on floor 16 have square rooms, that is 13 x 13 feet square. The room was fine for one person but not two. We had only small suitcases but nowhere to put them other against wall behind chair at desk and one in closet. One side of bed was well worn in hinting that one person usually lives in that room. After asking we were told that the rate we paid was for that room. Admittedly, we did get a very good deal, $150 incl. taxes per night. But the website suggests 330sq ft. rooms or larger. The hotel is nice though, and the concierge helpful. We ate breakfast at la belle provence, a chain downhill from the left of the hotel which has fruit and big fry up for $5. In old city the Savinage had a true french canadian feel. Probably mobbed when the cruise ships are in. Archealogical museum in old town worth seeing.

I stayed at this hotel just for one night in March. I had a nice room which looked perfectly clean and everything worked. I wished it had an in-room coffee machine, but that's pretty much the only thing that was missing.

The location was great for my business meetings and the staff that I met were very nice and helpful.

But, the food left much to be desired. Generally, for this calibre hotel I expect the food to be good, but I don't expect it to be amazing. I orded a simple club sandwich and the toast was burnt. I was very disappointed - as it was late and I was STARVING...

So, I'd still recommend a stay, but I wouldn't eat there. - But that was my own fault as I had to work that evening.

We love this hotel for its location and great rooms. Very comfortable pillow top beds, and great rain showers. Valet parking is quick and easy, but not included in price of room. Front desk staff friendly, nothing special. There is a restaurant on site, but with so many places to go on Montreal we have never tried it.

This was our second stay, and the prices were a little higher than usual. Still overall a good value for a Sofitel.
