Great location but hotel felt really worn out and tired

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jul 17, 2011
We had 2 rooms here recently and while the location is excellent, the hotel is several years past due for a renovation. Door frames are chipped, hallways dark, and the bathrooms just feel worn out.

We have stayed at many Holiday Inn Express hotels in the US and Europe and this one is in the worst shape of any of them.

The breakfast area was great but just swamped with people. A real challenge to find a table for 3.

Worst of all, was it was impossible to figure out how to set the room temperature and our request on the first day to stop the rattling air conditioner was ignored. It was a real annoyance.

Room Tip: Some street noise might be an issue at the front of the hotel

Rooms in this Holiday Inn Express are large - it's actually a mini-apartment, with a living room area, kitchen, and bedroom (plus bath). We only stayed one night and didn't need all that, but wow, one could even do meals if desired. Breakfast includes a lot of variety and hot items. There is a business center that we used to check in for our flights; there is also free wireless in rooms. Staff was friendly and helpful. Location is pretty good. It's a short walk to the old city, though the several blocks between the hotel and old city (via Chinatown) were a little scrungy and we only did them in daylight. It's on a major street, and the the airport express bus (#747) stops just a block away (great way to/from the airport, by the way). A Metro line is not far either, and the airport bus ticket includs a 24 hour transit pass. We would likely stay here again if in the area again.

I flew in for the Canadian Chemical Society Meeting held June 5-8. This hotel was selected for me by the Conference Hotel Reservation Center. I selected a standard room. When I arrived I was told that even though I selected a standard non-smoking room, there were none available so I had to accept a smoking room. The room of course smelled. I went to set up my computer on the Table/Desk provided. The electricity was out in this end of the room. So I had to move my computer to a coffee table far from a wall socket that worked.
The room was decrepit as the carpet was worn, all the fixtures old.
The breakfast that was included ...also included so many guests that I had to take my food to my room to eat it.

Finally, although they supplied free internet...the bandwidth was so small that in fact, it only worked before 7 and after 11 pm...so it was practically useless

Going or coming from cruises, I have stayed here four times now and found excellent service each time. The desk people are friendly and usually accomodating in trying to get us into our rooms before the 3 pm usual admission time. For the price and location and service (I lke the breakfast), it is good value. I always see other ship passengers going or coming here.

The location is wonderful... couldn't say more about it, especially since the price is reasonable... within walking distance of everything!
Nice, self-serve breakfast buffet and very helpful staff. 24/7 coffee, tea, hot chocolate
Would definitely choose this hotel again...

Stayed here for one night on PC award points. Easy to book online.

The hotel is a converted apartment block. Whilst no frills, it is modern and has everything you need including 24hr laundry, gym, complimentary breakfast and complimentary wifi.

The airport bus (747) goes right past the door, and it is close for both the old town and latin quarter.

Decor is good, good cable TV with both English and French channels. Staff speak both as well.

All in all a great place for the price and availability. Very comfy.
