For the money--the location and excellent staff cannot be beat. I've been going to Montreal for over a decade and this is the only hotel I bother to book. End of story.

I've stayed here 4 times in the past 2 years and have nothing but great things to say!! The location is the best, the rooms are clean and comfortable, a very reasonable price and the staff are always helpful and kind. I highly recommend Hotel St. Denis!

NEGATIVE

- Way to expensive for what it is – no way is this a 3 star hotel (I would say a 1 or 2 star hotel).
- Paid parking – the parking lot was around the corner but the entrance was on a dodgy alley. For the price paid you had in-and-out privileges, though.
- Breakfast was not included – and if you decided to purchase the breakfast it was taken on the caffe next door (can’t comment on the quality of it though).
- The staff was never friendly.
- The room had a strange smell and bathroom could be better cleaned.
- The corridors and stairs were really narrow – it was hard carrying the bags around. You can also hear everything that goes on in the corridors – it was difficult to sleep in the morning after the cleaning of the rooms started because of all the noise made by the maids.
- There was no view from the window (which was rather small).

Note, if you book this hotel via an external internet website, like expedia, please note that the price does not include tax which may be higher than you expect (if I’m not mistaken the tax was 16%).

POSITIVE

- Free fast wifi internet.
- Good location – in a very active area of town with lots of bars, restaurants, caffes and other activities. Within walking distance to the centre of Montreal (15 mins walking).

CONCLUSION: would never stay here again - it's a really sad place which overcharges you completely (as I wrote, no way this is a 3 star hotel). Can't really understand the other positive reviews.

Good price, not a excellent location, but it was fine.
Rooms are really big, and clean.

I stayed at this hotel in Sept. 2009. I would recommend this hotel. The surrounding area and hotel itself seems un-appealing on first appearance but improves as time goes by. The hotel is an older building and the hallways and tiny elevator look somewhat shabby. However, the room itself is very clean. The bed is pretty comfortable. They have hardwood floors.

When I arrived, there was no remote control for the TV and the reception desk said I would have to wait till the next day for them to get one set up.

They provide a free wireless internet connection that’s fairly quick.

The rate included breakfast. The hotel gives you a card for breakfast at the restaurant next door, Pacini. The breakfast option consisted of either 2 eggs with bacon/ham/sausage or yogurt with fruit. The restaurant has an all you can eat bread bar with super delicious jams.

The location is excellent. It’s about a 10 minute walk to Old Montreal. It’s a few steps away from a subway station. It’s also within walking distance to all the restaurants on Rue St. Denis. (Highly recommend Juliette et Chocolat, esp. if you are a chocolate lover)

Parking costs $15/night.
