“Wonderful Stay”
Reviewed June 10, 2014

My husband and I stayed in the Le St. James for five nights in late May. As seasoned world travelers we can say, without hesitation, that this is now one of our top favorites.
The elegant atmosphere and exceptional service was presented even at our very late arrival close to midnight. We were invited to relax in the beautiful library room, with a complimentary cocktail and appetizers.
The room was luxury at its best - a seating area, large bathroom, comfortable bed all designed with exquisite taste.
The staff were all very friendly and eager to assist us.
If only we lived closer than San Diego California...we would go as often as we could!

My husband booked there for my birthday. We were amazed by the service and the quality of the hotel.
The room was amazing: high celling, gorgeous bathroom, and the service : everybody knows our last time and my husband was thrilled, the chauffeur was discrete and classy.
We went to the spa to received treatment : again it was fabulous.
The mix of the old and the modern style is perfect.
Magic stay.

A 2 night business stay. Great room, well furnished and well set out. Very good service. I didn't make it to the bar/restaurant but room service was good. Overall a good boutique hotel that has interesting features without trying too hard (the common boutique error). I liked the vibe and will go back.

If you love to be pampered, The St-James is for you. Old fashion luxury of eras gone by. It's not for every budget but a wonderful experience if you can afford it. It's like taking a step back in time, when hotels made you feel important and valued. Each room is beautifully designed, with no cookie cutter deco. You'll find special touches though out the hotel, from the old fashion keys, to the wonderful restaurant,to the afternoon canapés offered in the lounge, and lets not forget the ever popular chocolate on the pillow. It's located in beautiful Old Montreal a few steps for Notre Dame Cathedral. If the weather isn't nice no worries, it's connected to a wonderful little mall that even has a piece of the Berlin Wall on display . The Metro and Palais des Congrès are also close by. Parking can be a problem in this part of town but at the St.James they also have valet parking. I loved it and will go back...enjoy..

They kept us waiting 5 hours for our room. Beautiful hotel, but staff is inefficient. Would not go back. It's a shame because the location is great. Restaurant looked good, but we had already booked dinner elsewhere.

The location and decor of the Hotel Le St James are fabulous and charming. However, several of the rooms, while nicely decorated and spacious, are so dark they get no natural light whatsoever and face another building. This gives a very dingy feeling. The staff is very nice and friendly, but it appears the hotel does not have a full time concierge - he was not there for a half hour on a weekday morning and on a Saturday morning had not even arrived when we came to the hotel from the airport mid-morning. The doorman also does not greet you and open the taxi door with an umbrella when it is raining, which seems strange for a hotel at this level.

Sometimes, you just feel right in a place. Le St-James just felt right. It is a beautiful and warm space from the door to the floors, and the staff are absolutely spot on. There is a vast difference between pressure-help and genuine help and these people are genuine. We felt as if the staff were personally disappointed if everything wasn't just right, and that our needs were managed quickly, professionally, and courteously. From arranging dinner out and away to any item in the room or at the bar, or at the front desk, they were spectacular. The entrance is a little narrow and up some steps, but plenty of assistance. The desk is immaculate. Our room was a small suite and was elegant but very comfortable. For creature comforts, the bed was perhaps the best we've ever experienced in a hotel. Love the huge shower, with a deluge of rain on your head. Cannot fault an item, but if they could add a single thing, it might be more wall outlets - we ran out early. Perhaps the age of the hotel to blame. The bar is one of the most appealing elements of the place. And, as with the rest of the place, the staff there were only too eager to please. We did not have the opportunity to dine in the restaurant except for breakfast. It was perfect. Really well positioned in old Montreal for the walking crowd. Not the cheapest place for certain, but a great feeling of money well spent.

Room Tip: can't have a bad room.
