Description: Damas, an upscale Syrian restaurant located on Avenue Van Horne. You will be charmed by the Oriental decor and most impressed by their refined and rich cuisine. This modern but authentic gastronomy will make your mouth water with all their specialties starting from the fattouche, the appetizing mouth-melting lamb leg to the cherry kebab. The blend of aromas and the tasting of the delicious preparations will make the experience worthwhile.

“First time at Damas...amazing.”

My boyfriend and I tried this restaurant for the first time on New year's eve. Nice ambiance, cozy and not too loud. I ordered the eggplant Maqlouba (braised lamb)...it was simply delicous, amazing flavors. I would like to go back and order it again ! My boyfriend had the sea bass and it was excellent as well. It was a little pricey. Our bill came up to 170 plus tax but we had wine and dessert too.
service was excellent. I look forward to going back.

“You just want to go back!”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

The food is so good, we keep going back. We have taken many friends there and it became their favourite too. Every dish is perfect. The flavors are unique. Not the standard middle-eastern fare.Authentic Syrian dishes. And impeccable, friiendly service. We have been going for almost 2 years and it's still on top of our list,

“Authentic and Sublime”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

What a gem! Everything was perfect for the moment we arrived. The greeting was warm as we were seated. The ambiance was subdued and comfortable: lighting low, cushion were made from a beautiful tapestry, lots of cultural accents, and a authentic Syrian menu. The wait staff was attentive and our waiter had the greatest sense of humor. He made a few recommendations which we took; for salad, Spanish wine, and the dessert. We ordered several appetizers before the main courses of Pomegranate Glazed Octopus & Rack of Lamb with Aleppo Spice Rub, then Manounie for dessert. The food was fresh, hot, healthy, and nothing less than sublime. This may well have been one of my top ten dining experiences.

“Excellent food and incredible service”
Reviewed November 3, 2012

Went to the Damas in Mile End last night with a friend. It was Friday night, and we didn't reserve until the very last minute (5:45 PM) but were told they would find us a table if we were there by 7:00. We had trouble parking and were late, but the table had been held for us. I will speak about the service first, as it was incredible. Warm, personable, helpful - everything one always hopes for but seldom encounters. Each of us was prepared to order an appetizer and main course, but our waiter told us that it would be too much, because of all the pita we would eat with the appetizer. He instead prepared a small platter for us of three "mezes", or appetizers, which were more than adequate and very, very good (and less expensive than two regular appetizers). We both ordered lamb as the main course. My friend had the "bamia" which was braised with okra, tomatoes and pomegranates, and which she said was very good. I had the "friki", which was a braised lamb shank with bulgur, pistachios, raisins and toasted slivered almonds - unbelievably delicious!
It was packed when we arrived, eased up a little around 8:30, and then a second wave of people filled it again around 9:00, just as we were leaving. It's a delightful room in which to sit. Somewhat noisy, yes, but a buzz rather than a major disturbance; the room is large enough and high enough to dissipate it. Cost was about $35.00 before a glass of wine, taxes and tip.
A wonderful find, and one which will draw me back soon.

“A unique wonderful find”
Reviewed October 3, 2012

We have eaten at many middle eastern restaurants and we can confidently say that Damas Cuisine Syriennet stands out as absolutely the best. The Syrian cuisine and warm service and the friendly happy atmosphere can impact your pre-judgements about Syria (if you have any!). The dishes are all subtly flavored and its best to order a number of them and share (each is of ample size for sharing). It's hard to select what was the best dish, they all were terrific, but be sure to order the eggplant dish and the octopus dish (I've never gone out of my way to order octopus but this dish is fantastic). And the service at this small intimate restaurant is great - a very memorable evening.
