“Best pizza in Montreal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2014

I am very picky about pizza as I am an italian pizza fan. This place has the best Pizza Margarita in Montreal simply because it uses San Marzano tomatoes and a wood stove. Every bite tastes the italian sun. Service is prompt, friendly. Atmosphere relaxed and urban. Prices cheap for what you get. Awesome oyster selection at low prices and wine selection impressive with good taste for such a small place. I am a regular. Best to book.

“Delicious pizza and more!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 8, 2014

Magpie is my go-to neighbourhood restaurant. Simple, no fuss and yet stylish. Pizza of course is their specialty. The wood-burning oven churns out a small selection of either very inventive or classic pies (I always go for the margarita. It's perfection.) Quality ingredients, crispy light dough, fresh mozzarella, the real deal. It's hard to find pizza in Montreal that lives up to New York and Brooklyn standards but this one is not far. Good wine list. A small but interesting selection of appetizers, I particularly like the half-dozen oysters that come in a metal vat filled with ice, and your selection of toppings like mignonette, hot sauce, horse radish, etc. Always fresh. And they make a good caesar salad. My only complaint is that too many people know about it and it's hard to just walk in, but they do take reservations.

“Pretty good pizza from a local's point of view”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 30, 2014

As a Montreal local, I've had my fair shares of pizzas, most of which were often way too salty for my taste. Ranked as one of the best pizza places in Montreal, I wanted to try this place out with a couple more people and boy, we were pleasantly surprised.

The outside of the restaurant looked so shady that I wanted to turn back, but looks can be deceiving! The service was really good (they refilled our water god knows how many times), the atmosphere was cozy (and a bit loud but hey, it's busy) and the waitresses were super friendly.

The menu is very simple and offers a small variety of pies and appetizers. My recommendations are the beef tartare (generous portion for even 5 people, but the croutons were a bit hard - 14$), and the Bianca pizza. All crusts are just a bit crunchy, but fluffy at the same time. It was interesting, I never ate a pizza like that before.

On the con side, sometimes the crust was a little hard to cut. The Artichaud pizza was a bit soggy due to the spinach toppings (but still delicious), and the Smoked meat pizza was just salty altogether. In terms of pricing, each pizza costs around 14$ or more. It may be "pricey" for some, but when you factor atmosphere, service and the fact that you don't need to gargle down bottles of water afterwards, I'd say I'd be ready to go back.

“Best crust but expensive pizza”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 22, 2014 via mobile

Magpie has delicious, straight forward pies. Their crust is unbelievable but their toppings can be sparse. And considering the size and amount of toppings, I think they're overpriced. That said, it's a delicious local place!

“Amazing pizza”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 11, 2014

Magpie has delicious pizza. Unconventional toppings, delicious crust and a great atmosphere make Magpie so unique. The ingredients they use are delicious and fresh, and the dough is perfectly chewy and thin at the same time. A great pizza place in the city if you're looking for a good thin-crust, non-typical Italian pizza.
