“Great place to stay”
Reviewed April 22, 2011

Picked this hotel through TripAdisor reviews, and found it excellent. Away for a long weekend with 2 other couples, we all were upgraded on arrival to Deluxe Suites. Almost all of the staff were friendly & helpful during our stay - front desk, concierge and bell staff were excellent; only a couple of those working at breakfast Sunday morning seemed preoccupied with other things. The cleanliness of the hotel really impressed, especially with bed bug scares these days - the bathroom was spotless.
Hotel location is great - walked to everywhere in Old Montreal. Walking distance to downtown, or a short cab ride.
Loved the opening windows.
All of this, and for a sweet deal of less than $150 per night!

I travel across Canada and stay at various boutique hotels across the country. This hotel was the biggest disappointment I have seen in a very long time. At $200.00 night you would expect a top-of-the-line room. Rooms are in desparate need of a facelift and the carpet was disgusting- gum and dark stains. Parking was another $30.00/ night (which was never mentioned upon my booking) and supposedly there was complimentary breakfast (also not communicated). Although I can't comment on breakfast, every thing else was a total disappointment, so I image breakfast wouldn't be much different. I would recommend OPUS over this hotel any day! OPUS is a 10/ 10 and I have stayed before- not in old Montreal. but a hell of alot less expensive with wonderful staff and clean, modern rooms!

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your comments regarding your most recent stay at Le Saint Sulpice. I'm sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your stay. All guests who have breakfast included receive coupons upon check-in for their breakfast and our valets explain parking with guests upon check-in. We will be changing all room carpets and sofa-beds in 2011. We will be proceeding with as many rooms as possible before June 2011 and the balance will be replaced after our high season. We have changed all mattresses, bed linens, towels and have added Nespresso coffee machines in every room in 2010.
We hope you will be back to see the changes on your next trip to Montreal.
Regards

This is a late, but needed review.
I traveled in October to Montreal for a long weekend with my fiance and another couple. I found a great deal on Le Saint-Sulpice, and once we arrived I realized we made a fabulous choice. The location of the hotel is perfect - in old Montreal, and near the water. We walked everywhere during our stay and felt centrally located. The rooms were beautiful - luxuriously decorated. Although some of the furniture was a bit dated, the linens were new and the room felt very clean and well maintained. The suite provided us more than enough room, and even the bathroom was beautiful!
The breakfast that was included was very minimal, and we decided to eat elsewhere (our tummies were stretched from so much wonderful food!).
One slight annoyance was that we arrived at the hotel two hours before check-in time, and asked if we could access our rooms early. The reception told us they would try to accomodate us. In the meantime we went to lunch, and came back 15 minutes before check in time, but still did not have rooms. We ended up waiting almost 30 minutes after check in time before we could get to our rooms and have a shower, which is a long time after driving from Philadelphia. However, this would not deter me from staying at this hotel.
All in all, this hotel impressed me and I loved my stay. I definitely hope to return to Montreal (in a warmer month than October next time) and will consider another stay at Le Saint-Sulpice.

Stayed at Saint-Sulpice during a Xmas trip to Canada. We had no problem at all.

The suite was extremely spacious, the staff at the concierge really helpful and the whole atmosphere with the snow outside our windows and the fireplace inside our room made the story idyllic...

Right at Montreal down-town and steps away from everything.

Definitely two thumbs up.

Taking a weekend away to Montreal, we wanted to stay in the old town, and Le Saint Sulpice seemed to be in the perfect location, the reviews on trip advisor sealed the deal - we didn't think we could go wrong.
Sadly this was not the case, this hotel did not live up to the reviews, nor the standards expected for this price bracket:
1. The bed in the loft suite is a fold down, and fairly uncomfortable
2. The hypo-allergenic bedding was ancient, without filling in the duvet, nor a duvet cover!
3. The complimentary breakfast was a single glass of orange juice, burnt coffee (also cold) some picked over pastries, cheeses and yogurts - really low standard for a hotel of this 'quality'
4. After two nights none of the toiletries were replenished, so we had to call and ask for more shampoo (not really the norm, again in a quality hotel)
5. Water in room was not replaced
All of which would be fine in a room that was $100p/n, but in a high-end boutique hotel in a room costing $200+ per night, it really fails to deliver.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your comments regarding your stay at Le Saint-Sulpice. There seems to have been several issues which did not meet your expectations during your stay and I would like to apologize. I hope you will have the opportunity to contact me so I will be able to follow up on the housekeeping issues & the issues with the continental breakfast.
The Superior rooms do have Murphy beds but all our mattresses were changed last year. We also changed all our bed linens & towels last year so I don't understand how they should seem ancient.
We pride ourselves on our service and quality and hope you will be able to contact me directly in order to ensure that this isolated incident does not reoccur.

Overall the hotel very nice. The updates seem to be about done and there was very little sign of renovation during our visit. More importantly, we had no smells to contend with. The location was very convenient and walking everywhere in Old Town was easy.
The rooms were great, we got our TripAdvisor upgrade to a well appointed suite with a great bathroom and fireplace. I always find it challenging when very nice old structures effort a contemporary decor but it was pretty well pulled off here.
The internet concerns are real. It comes in and out and that is a GIANT PAIN. I also find it strange that a hotel of this caliber does not have a fitness room. The access to one a few blocks away doesn't cut it for me. Also the free breakfast was a very light Continental but better than nothing and really all that is needed.

The hotel it's self is in a great location. It's really close to a wonderful little cupcakery just up the street. In all honesty, I would probably stay here again but it wouldn't be my first choice. The room that my partner and I stayed in was a little "worn". The hotel was clean and we had no issues with anything other than it appearing in need of some updates. I just think that it could use a little updating or refreshing. It's not that it was dated it's that it was heavily used type thing, a scratch here and there and the feel that many people had stayed there before you. We were exhausted from exploring Montreal by foot so we primarily only used the room for sleeping. so the hotel had no complaints as far as the bathroom or size of room. The rooms were great size and you're in the heart of Old Montreal. The first weekend of Sept was a great time to visit the city. Lots of festivals and things to do!
