My wife and I have eaten here on 3 occasions over the last 12 months. 2 out of 3 were excellent, 1 was horrible. It seems to depend on who is managing the place on the night. I doubt we will go back, it should not be a lottery. At these prices it should always be excellent.

Thank Geoff W

Bocata is simply a great place to eat, the food is delicious, the atmosphere cosy, the staff friendly and helpful, and best of all: VALUE for your money!
We had no reservation but were taken care of immediately.
We started with the Duck confit and Arugula, along with the Asparagus, both were perfect.
For Main courses we took the Veal and Lentil and the Braised steak, both were perfectly cooked, tender and mouthwatering!
We could not resist the Panna Cotta for dessert and it did not disappoint, and was a generous portion.
With two beers the bill came to $113 total.
I would return there and will, every time I am in Montreal!
Keep it up, and.............why can't Bocata open in Toronto????

This was a +++++ dining experience. We walked in without a reservation but were really lucky when a table opened up. We had been at the "sister" restaurant, Barroco, the day before and decided to give this one a run for it's money. It has the same owner and executive chef but different kitchens and menus.

It was a close competition. Bocata rose to the occasion and provided a fantastic experience. Malcolm, our server, was able to recommend a great wine. When it comes to wines, Malcolm is top notch. He was friendly and informative, without the snobbery that sometimes comes with wine expertise. The rest of the meal was superb. The lobster tagliatelle had flavours that were divine and the sea bass was succulent. And their French martini was yum-yum. And the decor, exposed stone walls, candle sconces in the walls, artwork, was such a great fit into the Old Montreal experience.

On any trip to Old Montreal, you got to make this restaurant, as well as the Barroco next door, a definite culinary "must".

My husband and I walked by this very quaint, fun spot in Old Montreal and decided to venture in. To our delight, we were seated at the window and were informed that on Thursday nights (and this was a Thurs) they offer a special prixe fix dinner which consists of 4 different Spanish white wine pairings with 4 courses, all for a reasonable price. We both said why not and preceded to have a marvelous evening; the atmosphere, great music, lively surroundings, friendly & attentive staff, and delicious food and wine made for a most memorable evening. We highly recommend it!
