I stayed here for five nights during a convention. Montreal is a very walkable city and the hotel is located close to the convection center, the theater district, Old Montreal, and many good restaurants.

The hotel Quartier des Spectacles is actually owned by the Hotel Abri-Voyager. You check in at the Abri-Voyager, but then have to walk outside and around the corner to enter the Quartier des Spectacles, which is in a different building. The Quartier has a private, keyed entrance and only has four rooms. The one I stayed in was clean and spartan with two double beds, a kitchenette, and washer dryer in the bathroom. There is an iron and ironing board in the hallway, shared among the four rooms. Free internet access comes with the room. The room and public spaces were clean.

While others have written that the hotel is in a red light district, it is not. It is one block away from the theaters and good bars and restaurants. The hotel shares the building with an erotica store, but I never even saw anyone leave or enter the store. While that might be a problem for some, it isn't a red light district.

The only thing that I would say is off-putting is that the hotel door is poorly marked, and the stretch of road it is on looks decrepit (and faces a vacant lot). The wall of the hotel has a mural of a harmonica player on it, which makes it easy to spot. Point is, it looked a little sketchy when I first showed up, but I never felt unsafe or isolated.

The hotel does not have parking, but there is an open lot next door ($20/day) and a covered lot 3 blocks away at a university ($11/day).

If you are disabled or need an elevator, do not stay here. Both the Abri-Voyager and the Quartier des Spectacles are on the second floor of their respective buildings and can only be reached by stairs.

I would recommend this hotel for budget travelers who do not need the amenities of a larger hotel but also don't want to stay in a hostel or motel.

Stayed here during the last part ot the jazz festival. Was right next to all of the action. Was close to Metro and Bixi stations. Some street noise but this is to be expected. Staff was helpfull and friendly. Felt very fortunate to be so close to all of the action of the festival and yet being able to escape it's crowds by just going upstairs. Yes, it is by a sex shop, get over it. It is Montreal not Wichita. There were not a bunch creepy people hanging around. Stayed down the street at the Hyatt a week later and wished I was here instead.
