“Great Neighbourhood Restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 22, 2013

We travel to Montreal a couple of times a year and are always on the lookout for those little out of the way restaurants with good food and atmosphere so on the recommendation of a work colleague we tried Quartier General. A short 15 minute walk from the Laurier Metro station, it lived up to our expectations. It is very popular and a reservation a few weeks ahead is a must. As it was, even our one month ahead request, only secured us a 6:00pm booking. We arrived a little early, but the restaurant seated us and opened our wine so that we could sip a glass until they were ready to begin service. It should be noted that Quartier General is one of those bring your own wine restaurants which gives you the opportunity to bring along a wine of your own choice without denting the wallet. A great idea. The menu changes daily and is presented on a chalkboard above the kitchen area. The wait staff are very helpful in describing the various options and if needed translating the French menu for you. They are also friendly and attentive. We were not disappointed. The food is delicious and well presented and is rates as one of the best meals we have eaten in Montreal in a good many years. We had read in other reviews that the restaurant is very noisy, but that proved not to be the case. Certainly there is a general hubbub consistent with a busy, popular place but not to the point where you are unable to carry on a conversation. Quartier General is definitely one you should try.

“Very good, very enjoyable...”

We visited this Bring Your Own Wine restaurant on a rainy Wednesday evening, and yet it was full and with a vibrant atmosphere. My wife had the veal chop while I had the rabbit; both excellent. Our server Lucie was most attentive and could describe each dish, in French and English, with great flair and enthusiasm. Noisy, but warm and friendly.

We went to this restaurant on a recent trip to Montreal. Although we were there three weeks ago, I'm still thinking about the meal we had. The service was impeccable, the food was seriously out of this world, and the atmosphere was perfect. My husband, stepson and I all got different appetizers, main courses and desserts so we could try different things. The duck tartare, while initially sounding too strange to be true, was one of the most delicious things I've ever eaten in my life. The desserts, which often fall short at restaurants, were possibly the highlight of the meal. Bring a few good bottles of wine (they don't have a wine list there) and get ready for a seriously amazing evening.

“A Wonderful Dining experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 23, 2013

Our reservation was for 6:30 PM and our tour was running late. The hotel manager called to hold our table. The service, food and pricing was exceptional. We were seated next to a wine sales-rep who was very impressed by our bottle of French wine brought from the states. Do not miss this gourmet opportunity when in Montrreal.

“I can understand the high ranking”

What a highlight of our trip! This neighborhood resto is not only difficult to find (even for our montréalais driver/guide), but definitely non-touristy. We arrived 30" late but the resto held our coveted tables to insure we, 12 persons, were seated right away. Every table was taken giving this eatery a frenetic vibe. The chalkboard menus for lunch and dinner were so creative and salivating.
They have a fixed price, 2-course menu of the day for $20 Cdn + $5 for the dessert, pp. I thoroughly enjoyed my beef tartare and omble chevalier (artic char) plus the pudding chomeur with choc-raspberry sauce.
Our guide provided the local beer as this is a BYOB place.
We could have easily stayed another hour.
