We travel to Montreal a couple of times a year and are always on the lookout for those little out of the way restaurants with good food and atmosphere so on the recommendation of a work colleague we tried Quartier General. A short 15 minute walk from the Laurier Metro station, it lived up to our expectations. It is very popular and a reservation a few weeks ahead is a must. As it was, even our one month ahead request, only secured us a 6:00pm booking. We arrived a little early, but the restaurant seated us and opened our wine so that we could sip a glass until they were ready to begin service. It should be noted that Quartier General is one of those bring your own wine restaurants which gives you the opportunity to bring along a wine of your own choice without denting the wallet. A great idea. The menu changes daily and is presented on a chalkboard above the kitchen area. The wait staff are very helpful in describing the various options and if needed translating the French menu for you. They are also friendly and attentive. We were not disappointed. The food is delicious and well presented and is rates as one of the best meals we have eaten in Montreal in a good many years. We had read in other reviews that the restaurant is very noisy, but that proved not to be the case. Certainly there is a general hubbub consistent with a busy, popular place but not to the point where you are unable to carry on a conversation. Quartier General is definitely one you should try.
