I loved this museum. The exhibits are so well put together. I really felt that I got a strong understanding of the history of Montreal. They take you from the Iroquois to current times in such an interesting way. Very well done. I knew so little about the history of the area and I felt that I was so informed once I left. Should definitely be on your list for Old Montreal.

We spent the afternoon there and were very impressed with both the permanent and temporary exhibitions. The informaiton was presented in many different ways to shake it up a little and the artifacts and explanations and videos were excellent. My 10 year old didn't even say she was bored!

The museum offers one permanent exhibition on the history of Montréal, which is small but quite interesting. However, I suggest the two temporary ones: the first "Quartiers diparus" presents the story of three districts that were torn down during projects of urban regeneration in the 60-70s through interviews to former residents; the second one "Histoires de vie" presents the stories of immigrants who sought refuge in Montréal fleeing from hard political situations. The interviews really allow to understand what it is like to leave home and settle in a new city; they also help to interpret the contemporary city: definitely worth a visit.

three story museum in an old repurposed fire house. The first currently houses an exhibit on the history of the city at five different times. Like many museum in Montreal, the models and diaramas are just great. The second and third floors are currently showing exhibits on Montreal neighborhoods and ethnic groups.

You'll spend 1 1/2-2 hours walking through Montreal history and significant events. If there isonly one place to visit, this is it!
