“The city at your doorstep”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 13, 2010

The Queen Elizabeth was built in 1958 atop the central rail station and was specially built to eliminate the vibration from the trains underneath. The Queen is unbelievably well located in the city with everything closeby. I have stayed here on 3 occasions over 2 years and have had remarkably consistent service and quality of rooms. This is a city hotel, so the rooms are somewhat small, but they are wonderfully appointed.

As I am not a discerning upscale type of guy - but I do appreciate a fine hotel - I will always stay here because of the location and the comfort of the hotel. When we arrive the doorman takes the car and has it valet parked, and after a breeze checkin process we are ready to explore the city. The beds are comfortable and the hotel is noiseless, unless the windows are open. We generally eat breakfast and lunch in the train station which has a huge variety of excellent food - especially the french bakery/deli closest to the mall and the hotel entrance. We often book the hotel in advance and with a good discount, often staying for $125-135 per night, a great deal for such a superb location and excellent hotel.

Book early, get the discounts, give it a try - you will be glad you did!

Selected this hotel because of its super-convenient location and ease of access (for limited-mobility traveler in her 80's), plus Fairmont's reputation. What a disappointment!
Immediately upon entering our 4th floor room, there was an obvious vibrating hum in the room - which we later found seems to afflict the entire 4th floor! (Didn't explore to see if other levels were so affected). Complained at Front Desk - received "You're the 1st one today to mention it" - not exactly a disclaimer, but said they'd check on it. No results, no apologies, after several more attempts to get some resolution. Even more annoying when trying to sleep with this buzzy hum constantly there. Montreal is a lovely city - I'll go back - but certainly not to the Fairmont!

The Queen Elizabeth is a large city hotel, well-suited for business travelers and those looking for quality accommodations in Montreal.

OVERALL HOTEL: Entered the hotel from the underground parking (valet $24+) and was greeted with a clean modern looking city hotel. Long clean lobby, very business looking. Not a very homey feel to the entrance lobby, but clean and classy looking nonetheless. Long hallways leading to rooms on each floor. Everything is very clean!

ROOM: We stayed in a Jr. Suite, which was very impressive. Suite contained one large full bathroom off the bedroom and one small bathroom/powder room (toilet and sink only) at the entrance to the suite. Suite also contained a sitting room and a bedroom (separated by a sliding door). Bedroom had a comfortable Queen size bed and dresser. Sitting room has TV in cabinet, a couch, coffee table and small desk. The view from our suite was nothing impressive, but the room was nice clean and modern.

SERVICE: Check-in was straightforward. As a Fairmont President’s Club member, I was able to use the private reception desk which made check-in/out fast and simple. There were several other “regular” check-in counters, which had lines at certain points of the day.
Spoke with the concierge about the winter festival that was on in Montreal, and he was very helpful, providing us with a map and directions to the festival.

LOCATION: Montreal is a beautiful city to explore. The Queen Elizabeth is located in the city center, which provides a good base to explore or for business travel.

my company is booking QE because it is located next to our headquarters but I h´guess this is the only reason. It certainly was one of the best addresses some time ago, but those times are gone by.
The standard rooms are small, bathrooms minuscule for this standard. They are also hard to clean due to the setup and are consequently not very clean.
Air con is old, makes a lot of noise and can't be switched off.

We get a good corporate rate but if you book without such, there surely is better elsewhere.
Internet is free for Fairmont President's Club members.
Nice breakfast buffet but every day the same stuff.

There is a gym and it is fairly big but old equipment. The water in the pool did not look very clean, but I guess this is due to many kids playing in it.

Excellent location.

my last experience at fairmont vancouver was wonderful, so i did not hesitate to book 4 nights here at the Queen Elizabeth.
For the price that i paid, i was shocked to find out that internet was not free! Other hotels, including travel lodge would provide that complimentary. i had to join the presidents club in order to get the free internet. After a 23 hour journey to reach here, i was surprised to find no comb, no ear buds, cotton for make-up removal, no toothbrush, and no slippers. I was going to a 5 star facility, i expected those items there and relieved the worries during my packing. When i called for assistance, they confirmed those items i need to request ? (you mean like travellodge). I am a tea drinker, and i had to call for the kettle. there was no place to put it but the floor next to the plug. The tea that i drink was not replenished, so i had to purchase my own box. The room was spacious, the colour was drab, monotonous light brown, not a touch of colour on the curtains, on the chair on the pillows, all brown and tired looking. I just received my bill this morning, and that prompted me to make my first ever posting review. The travellodge was 1 km away and could provided me with the same (am sure smaller room, and free internet) Did i pay for the name only here? I am truly disappointed, and so i hear of other business men who attended the similar conference. Yes growing up, this was an icon, but you got to do the upkeep! Get real, any hotel at this pricing that has to pay for internet is a major turn off and an inconvenience.

I only stayed here due to the preferred rate we get at work. The hotel was OK. I have to say the service was terrible.

The city has completely downhill. Montreal isn't the beautiful city that I remember it used to be. It looks like any major city in the US now, lots of panhandling, garbag and filth.

While we were eating one night, there was an SUV full of 20 somethings pulled up in front of the restaurant. One of the kids whips open his pants and starts peeing in front of his parked car but we could see all he had to offer. Nice, eh?

Not sure I'd really want to return.

The hotel is great! Service, amenities, and staff are pleasant and helpful. Our stay here would have been perfect if there had been enough to keep us entertained in the hotel.

The city itself....I will never return. On every corner and on the streets there are panhandlers, even in old Montreal. The city needs to get a handle on their homeless problem. Service in the city (restaurants and shopping) was extremely hit and miss. Either they speak English and are friendly, if they don't...basically they want you out of their establishment. Our next trip WAS going to be to Quebec city...but forget that. I will go to the states instead.
