“Nice”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 8, 2010

Very nice rooms, a little small. Nice amenities, great location. This is primarily a business/convention hotel and is NOT child-friendly. Would absolutely stay there again.....but not with children.

Always like to stay at Fairmont hotels when we travel because we like the old world feel and have always gotten very good service and a comfortable room at a competitive price. Within the past year or 2 have stayed in Fairmonts in Toronto and Ottawa and were more than satisfied both times. Didn't quite know what to expect from this hotel in Montreal because it is so large (1700 rooms), right over the central rail station and in the heart of downtown. Although we live relatively close to Montreal (2 1/2 hrs. away) we haven't visited because of stories about traffic, crime (stolen cars, mostly), etc. But, I must say that my fears were totally unfounded. The hotel itself does not seem like a large hotel once inside, the room was well laid out and very comfortable even though we paid a bargain price ($142 CAN) and had a very nice downtown view. Check-in and check-out were smooth and easy and with the free Presidents Club you get free high speed internet. Also free was a very nice health club and pool, spa, steamroom, etc. It's a fairly short, nice walk over to old Montreal and there are plenty of restaurants in the area. We didn't eat in the hotel, but did have a drink at the bar which is very nice, although expensive with someone playing the piano and everyone very friendly. If you don't want to pay top price for breakfast and don't want to walk outside in the cold or poor weather I would suggest going down to the train station where there are plenty of places to get a reasonably priced meal. The underground city (which is huge) is located under the hotel also but doesn't open much of anything before 10am. Plenty of parking is available with quick access to the hotel through the train station. Price is $17 CAN per day and the garage has a secure system where you take your ticket and then pay before you leave, inserting your paid ticket to get out. If you're going to be constantly going in and out it might be worth paying the hotel for valet parking but that's just unlimited in/out for $26 CAN per day. Access to the hotel from outside the city seemed quite easy. We didn't get there on a workday or at rush hour so we don't know what the traffic situation is at those times but was relatively benign on the weekend. We're looking forward to going back in the warm weather because the old section and riverfront area looks like it must be a blast. Quiet in winter, though but many nice restaurants down there and they do fill up at night. Will definitely stay at the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth again.

Spent the weekend in Montreal at The Queen Elizabeth. Room was wonderful with a corner view from the 16th floor. Bed very comfortable and the room was well appointed, with a flat screen TV, coffee maker, bath robes, etc. Loved the location right in midtown, with access to the "underground city" from the hotel. Concierge was the best and gave us two great French restaurant recommendations close by.

I have 2 issues that prevent me from rating the hotel 5 stars. first we arrived about 1:45 pm to check in and we were told the room wasn't ready, and their check in time is 4:00 pm. Long story short, we waited in the lobby until they finally had a room for us at 4:35 pm. We could have checked in our luggage and did some sight seeing, but the temps were below zero and we were tired from our travels. Guess we thought the room would be ready "any time now." Second issue is the parking. Be prepared to pay $26 usd per day to park your car. You can park in the garage across the street for a reduced rate, but with the weather being what it was, it was hard to convince my wife to drag our luggage in the freezing snow for check in and check out.

Without the checkin and parking issue, it was a nice, comfortable stay and would give it another try again

Do not subscribe to Fairmont President Club (FPC) because they have serious problems of security. I was a frequent client of Fairmont Hotel and a FPC member. In December 2009, because Fairmont lack of privacy someone had access to my FPC account and was able to charge the stay to my credit card. Fairmont told me only after many exchanges of emails that they gave
access to my FPC account to another customer (because of an human error...) and that customer was able to see my information (and was able to change it). I received a final email from their VP legal that they were sorry but that mistake was not as serious as I was claiming to be.

Stayed at the Queen Elizabeth last February during Valentine's Day weekend with my fiancee. Overall, I was very happy with our stay. The room was a bit on the smaller side and oddly shaped, but coming from New York, small spaces don't bother me. The bathroom was a bit small, but everything was clean so no problems. If location is important, then this hotel is a great place to stay. You can easily walk underground to get to the train station, restaurants and shopping. Since this negated the need for us to walk outside in freezing weather, we really enjoyed this perk. Be sure to try Bagel Expressions, a breakfast shop close to the hotel and the Keg steakhosue right across the street. Order the Billy Miner Pie. For sightseeing, Old Montreal was fun as well as Chinatown and the McGill school area. And of course, take a subway trip away from the city to go to schwartz's deli.

We stay at the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth every time we are in Montreal---usually two or three times a year and love it.
It is well located for shopping downtown or going to Old Montreal and site seeing. No need to go outside with all the shopping and food services underground if the weather is not the best.
The service in the hotel is wonderful and all staff will go out of their way to make you feel special and welcome. there is a great spa in the hotel that is worth a visit while you are there.
We have never been disappointed and have been staying here for the last six years. A good pick!

We chose Montreal as our Christmas 2009 holiday destination and enjoyed it for the following reasons;
- Beautiful Hotel
- Professional/Top Class receptions: Kevin
- Outstanding rooms
- Perfect location
- Access to the underground pathway makes it just perfect during the winters

We arrived at 8am in the morning and Kevin (at check in) was very courteous and checked us right into Room 1570 a high up floor with a perfect view of McGill road (beautiful view of the university, city decorations, downtown and mountains in the back drop).
The thing that surprised us was that were better rooms then the standard room we booked via Expedia... We were more than satisfied with the room, hotel & service and we will return to try out their Gold standard rooms.
We would recommend this hotel to everyone who wants to stay downtown with easy access to all stations.
I would highly recommend you order from the restaurant (room service) and try the creme' brulee... amazing!!
Thank you for making our trip comfortable and enjoyable.
