“Christmas Magic”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 5, 2013

Coming back from skiing at Mt Tremblant, we spent 3 nights at the Queen Elizabeth including Christmas Eve, with a plan to ice skate in every outdoor rink in Montreal. Staying at the Queen Elizabeth could not have been more comfortable or convenient. The hotel is located on top of one of one of Montreal's Metro stations/underground universes, so you can do shirt sleeve shopping anytime of year.

We had a fabulous Christmas dinner buffet at the in-hotel Le Montréalais Bistrot-Bar, and whatever moments we were not skating outside the hotel, we relaxed in their pool and sauna. This is a very elegant place yet allows dogs (our 8 pound King Charles Cavalier Poodle) and has a lot of heart.

At 8AM the front desk called to speak with our daughter to tell her there was a letter for her. When she went to the front desk in her pajamas, she was presented an ornately decorated letter from Santa informing her that her Christmas presents were under the Christmas tree in the lobby. We had placed them there, in cooperation with the hotel staff hours before. Our daughter was beaming smile was only slightly broader than the staff overseeing this. Great magic like this only comes from great heart that the staff provided

We spent 6 nights at the Queen Elizabeth, and found it to be absolutely perfect in every way. What matters to us? Clean? Oh yeah! Comfy bed? Loved the king size comfort and all the pillows! Friendly? Couldn't ask for better service! Special thanks to Pascal who helped us on arrival - excellent customer service! Everyone we encountered was extra friendly! For walkers like us, the location was perfect. Without stepping on public transit we could visit Old Montreal, the neighbourhoods around St Denis and St Laurent, enjoy excellent free live music in the Quartier des Spectacles, and stroll through the gorgeous parkland on Mont Royal. Our room was a good size and we were lucky to get the perfect location for a lovely view.
One note, people have spoken about a bit of wear and tear? Yes, our sink had a wee chip, but why would that necessitate the waste of replacing it? In my eyes, tossing a perfectly good, slightly esthetically marred, piece of furniture in the garbage is irresponsible and environmentally unfriendly. If a chip means that much to you, find somewhere else to stay. If you value great service, comfort and cleanliness you could not find better than Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth.

Spent 3 nights at the end of June with my husband and his parents. Our room was great...huge bed...extremely comfy and the room was very clean. Reception and Concierge staff were helpful and friendly. The hotel's bar and restaurant prices were pretty high, so if you're on a budget take the lift down to the train station level and try some of the cafes/bars down there...great value breakfasts on offer. Or you could try Ben and Florentines for breakfast...ask the Concierge for directions...only a couple of minutes walk. All in all, a very pleasant stay.

We were traveling with 5 of us and booked a suite for 7 days in June 2013. We called to verify that the reservation was correct a week early, but when we arrived they had 5 of us in a regular room with one king bed for 1 person! It took nearly 45 minutes and a manager to figure out that they accidentally deleted that reservation. We finally got to our room which we were very happy with. It was at the end of the hall with beautiful views and 2 bathrooms! With 5 of us, the 2 bathrooms was wonderful, even though they are a bit on the small side. While the hotel itself seemed a bit musty, the rooms were very clean and and nicely decorated. The reason I only give this hotel a 3/5 is because their housekeeping service was not so great during our stay. On one occasion, while we were out the entire day and returning around 5pm, they had not cleaned our room at all. Another day they had just gotten into the room to clean about the same time, and more times than not, left us short enough towels for all of us, requiring us to call for more. Housekeeping also left the facial tissue empty during our stay. We also had something minor come up missing, but housekeeping never responded to our numerous requests to ask if they may have picked it up by mistake.
The location of this hotel was pretty good, making it easy to head one direction to Crescent St., the other direction to Old Montreal, or straight up to Mount Royale. Many restaurants and metro stops within walking distance makes this hotel a great spot for seeing the city. I also suggest you to sign up for their loyalty program so that you get wifi access for free. Otherwise, it costs to connect. Also, if at all possible, the Gold club on the 19th floor is a nice perk, with decent breakfast and an evening reception, but alcohol will still cost you.
Overall, I wanted to give this hotel a 5, but given the very difficult check-in process, the untimely housekeeping, lack of communication, I could only give this hotel a 3, and I would probably opt to not stay here again.

Dear cbletzacker - Thank you very much for sharing such detailed feedback regarding your recent hotel experience. We're very sorry to hear we didn't make your stay memorable, mostly due to the shortcomings from our housekeeping department. Rest asured your feedback has already been shared with our Executive Housekeeper to investigate and better understand the circumstances surrounding the lack of service you experienced. That said we're glad the front desk manager upon arrival was able to assist you in correcting the reservation issue. Additionally, we understand you had another interaction with our front desk management team who offered once again resolution further to the inconvenience you expressed. We apologize for not providing you with the overall satisfaction you were expecting, however we do hope you will give us another chance in the future. Thank you again for your time. Kind regards.

We stayed here for a work conference (just got back tonight). The hotel staff was nice but I wasn't that impressed with the hotel. My wife and I had a king size room on the 7th floor. It was tiny! There was no place to sit. The bed was so close to the entertainment center at the front of the room that there wasn't room for the two of us to walk by without bumping in to each other. The bathroom was incredibly small. It wasn't big enough for both of us to get ready. I've done a ton of traveling, stayed in a lot of hotels, and to me this just felt like your average three star hotel you could find in any city -- Detroit, Kansas City, Houston-- take your pick. Close your eyes, picture a three star business travelers hotel in basically any mid size city and you can picture the Fairmont. Again the staff was nice, the gym was decent, but if I had had to pay to stay here I would have been really disappointed. if you're looking for a place to stay by yourself when traveling on business, this is fine, but if you're coming on vacation I think you'd be disappointed.

One night business stay. Fitness facility is large for a hotel - lots of room for people and different pieces of equipment. They always seem to remember that I like more than less water in my room - so that's good. Attentive service. Fantastic gold floor breakfast, lots of room, one of the better Gold Floor lounges of the different Fairmont hotels I've been to. Highly recommend.

Attended biz conference here (ASTM) with my wife. During the days, the Concierge was extremely helpful to her and other spouses for tourist spots and directions, reservations. The hotel is in the heart of the city. We walked to bistros, underground shops. Definitely hope to return here. As President Club member, they treat you royally well and pleasant respect.
