“Good Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

Fairly modern for a Fairmont. Enjoy it more than the Royal York in Toronto. Good service. Great beds! Conveniently located. Free wireless if you're a FPC member. Good fitness centre as well. All-in-all

If you had read my reviews, we are Fairmont members and obviously we try to stay every opportunity we have. My wife and I went to Montreal to spend NYE 2013, first time for my wife and I have not been back in so many years. Montreal is beautiful, we will come back. Unfortunately, we went after the blizzard they had so they city was covered with snow and very cold. We chose the Fairmont because we try to be loyal, excellent rate, very central. I have given them a poor score duet to many facst that you have alreday read. Needs urgent renovation (-1) no need to explain, all other reviewers have said it more than enough. One note though, the fact that you offer an extremely low rate doesn't mean that you should accept whatever the hotel gives you. I have stayed in other luxury properties with extremely low rates , mainly due to season, but the amenities and service was the same like high season, which I had experienced that as well. Understaffed (-1), i saw the same people everyday, we stayed for 4 nights, poor people, they looked tired. If you offer low rates and get your property full, well, at least be prepared. Service(-1), since they were understaffed, obviously not everybody was going to get the attention we deserve. I'm sure all of them were doing their best but this fall to management. Concierge were good, they were very busy, yet very knowledgeable. Let's hope next time I go, I feel like staying at Fairmont. I'll keep you informed.

We stayed at this hotel over New Years. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Valet and bell service very efficient. The rooms are very small and it would be difficult to have 4 people in 1 room so we opted to get 2 rooms. The rooms also look a bit tired and could use some cosmetic upgrades. The fitness facility is well equipped, however, the attached pool area is dated and feels dirty. The hotel is in a great location and with some refurbishing could meet the standards we have seen in other Fairmont properties.

Located at Rene Levesque, is one of the premier hotel in Montreal. Location is definitely a high point. Check in took some time because of the huge rush. But the guy who checked me in, made up for this delay with his pleasant personality. The rooms are little dated and small. The breakfast is fabulous, one of the best I have come across when travelling in the west. Wifi signal is good. There are lot of eating joints around the hotel. Those who are interested in shopping, the shopping malls are just the walking distance away.

I stayed at this hotel with a friend as part of a ladies night in December. The hotel is extremely convenient if you are taking the train into Montreal as it is attached to the terminal! I didn't have to step outside at all.

Upon check-in I was warmly greeted and the benefits of being a President's Club member were honoured (wifi, separate check in lane). The lobby is very large and has a grandness about it, for sure. The room, which was a pre-paid rate, was nicely appointed with trademark Fairmont beds and finishings. There was a large television and lots of table space to spread out your things upon. The bathroom and amenities were also very nice.

We ate dinner in the bar/restaurant downstairs and were not disappointed. My friend had a steak and I opted for arctic char. Both were delicious. The bar had a nice wine selection and very attentive staff who were very gracious about letting me practice my French.

This was my first time staying at La Reine Elizabeth, but I will definitely be coming back when my travels next take me to Montreal.

Room Tip: The higher the floor, the better for views

I always stay here when I am in Montreal, which is at least once or twice a year. Each time has been wonderful. And it location couldn't be better, over top train station and access to the underground and metro.

Room Tip: City view is nice

I stayed at the hotel for 5 days in December 2012 with my 2 teenage daughters, during the winter storm. Opted for a cheap room ($144). Based on the reviews I expected a rather small room. The 2 queen beds were extremely comfortable, however, the room was big enough for 1 bed only instead of 2 beds. Solved the problem by pushing the beds against the walls and moving the table into the corner. The bathroom is small, but functional. The view from the room was magnificent. We were on the 8th floor, overlooking Mary, Queen of the World cathedral. Unforgettable view. There is a rather large cabinet in the room that serves as a TV stand. It is so high that one has to strain the neck in order to watch the television. The service was great. We asked for extra towels and were given a 3-day supply in all different sizes. The famous Fairmont Gold on the 19th floor with the panoramic elevator was closed due to low season, we were told.
Do not forget to register to become a member of the President's club in order to get free internet access. Enough has been said here about the location of the hotel, which is extremely important in winter time. There is not much going on in the city on Christmas Eve and Day, so we took advantage of the amenities at the hotel - the swimming pool, the hot tub, the steam room, the gym. The fresh fruit and lemonade at the Health Club are a nice touch. The pool can get crowded before closing (the hours are 6am-10pm). I had to fight young kids jumping over my head and guys in their twenties throwing ball across the pool. The pool boy eventually apologized for the inconveniences. The streets of Montreal were deserted during the holiday, not a lot of lights and decorations. We climbed Mount Royal, as did many tourists from all over the world and locals. The lookout from the chalet observatory atop Mont Royal epitomizes the essence of Montreal, I highly recommend it.
The restaurant Le Montréalais was rather expensive, so we ate outside of the hotel. If you are visiting in the cold weather make plans ahead of time and check for hours. We once had breakfast at Eggspectation and came back for dinner a couple of days later only to find out that the place closes at 6pm. If you like crepes, I recommend Paris Crepes on Rue Crescent near the hotel.
There are plenty of fast food restaurants at the train station. The food at the Chinese, Thai, Korean or Indian places tastes the same, very blend. But it if you need to grab a croissant or a cup of coffee on the go, Gare Central is the solution.
Would definitely come back to Queen Elizabeth in summer time.

Dear star555girl - We're happy to hear you enjoyed your recent visit to Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth this past December. Thank you for the detailed feedback and great comments you shared. With regards to the pieces of furniture in the room, we are currently reviewing the possibility of redesigning the space, including the height of the TV cabinet and we greatly appreciate your suggestions. We also look forward to welcoming you back when the weather gets warmer. Kindest regards.
