“Location and luxury”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

Going to Montreal it's hard to beat this location, my wife loved it since rain or shine you can always have something to do since it has direct access to the extensive underground in Montreal, shopping, eating even sight seeing. Hadn't been there in a while and the reception area has a very large and comfortable sitting area to just sit and read or anything else you want to do. The rooms are comfortable and of course the service is always great at any Fairmont hotel. Andree at the front desk is a real professional and you can ask her just about anything, will definitely have to go back. The only real issue is the price of the food at the restaurants but I guess when you decide on the Fairmont you have to expect that but in exchange you are almost never disappointed with the quality of the food.

I had booked the room for myself but my 3 daughters accompanied me and they were going to stay at a friend's house. When I was checking-in, the guy at the front desk asked me if I was staying alone and when I told him that my daughters were going to visit as well, he without any hesitation gave me a room with 2 beds with no extra charge. We got a nice room overlooking the Cathedral and the room was spotlessly clean. Pretty much every staff was very friendly and accommodating. My children took the VIA rail from Toronto and the station is right below the hotel which was so convenient for us. The food court is right below the hotel and has a variety of food to select . The pool staff and the Waiters at the Le Montréalais bar were very friendly as well.
We are planning on going over there for the December holidays. Will recommend this Hotel to anyone.

We thoroughly enjoyed our nights staying at the Montreal Fairmont Queen Elizabeth. We used an amazing American Express deal to book our room. We are from Philadelphia USA so we wanted something central to everything downtown. We were able to walk to everything. The beds were super comfortable and they had all the amenities including a gym and pool. Room safe was NOT extra and closet had iron. Large LCD TV and bottle of water on ice when we arrived.

The ONLY con was the rooms are a but small. We had 4 people so it was a bit tight but doable. Our room overlooked the back toward the river. Its not the prettiest view but ok. They wanted more for a mountain view but don't bother. That puts you on the side of the bigs streets and adds street noise. Free bus to the casino was nice but we didn't win. Easy parking in hotel's garage. We did not eat in the hotel's restaurant but it looked nice and was always busy.

My favorite thing: The bathroom was redone but they kept the big old iron tubs from yesteryear. After a long day of sightseeing I filled it up with hot water and had a nice soak....I suggest the same to you!

SUGGESTION 1: The hotel offers deals through several outlets. We got buy 2 nights get one free through AMEX. We also joined the President's Club and got free newspaper and express check-in.

SUGGESTION 2: The hotel is directly above the train station. For breakfast there are several restaurants in the station.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the back and it will be quieter than one facing the mountain and busy street.

This was the perfect location for our brief 2 night stay in Montreal. Since it was in the heart of the downtown, we easily found an ATM and did a little shopping in a large enclosed mall a few blocks away.
Our Fairmont Gold level room gave us access to the high-floor private club with complimentary continental breakfast and other food presentations through out the day. It was a warm and elegant multi-room area that overlooked the cathedral and downtown skyline.
Our travel agent provided us complimentary breakfast in the main dining room, so we took advantage of the large breakfast buffet each morning and then used the Gold Level for afternoon and evening snacks.
Our room was nicely decorated with a soft, comfy bed. The bathroom was a little small with funky doors that swang out into the bedroom area.
The hotel staff was always very helpful including the Concierge who helped map out a good self-guided walking tour into Old Montreal.

Room Tip: View of the cathedral and downtown.

Stayed for three nights in a Junior Suite.

First the good. The location is unbeatable, it's near to the downtown core and most of the larger corporate offices so if you're in Montreal on business it's perfect. We actually took the train, and the station is right under the hotel making it a breeze to access the hotel. It's a nice, clean, safe part of the city.

The lobby was very nice, they had some lemon infused water for guests as a refreshment and the staff were very quick, courteous, and helpful. I asked the concierge for some recommendations to dine out and she really took the time to ask questions about food preferences, budget, where had we been in the city etc, it was appreciated.

Now the bad.

The hotel could use some updating in some areas as it appears a little tired. Other areas that have been updated are quite nice.

As for the room, I have to say that I was disappointed in the Junior Suite. It was an upgrade for being President's Club members and while we appreciated it, it was a let down.

-We were on a low floor and our view from the bedroom was of some scaffolding towers which appeared to be supporting a workman's platform, and beyond that was a view of an actual construction site where there was quite a bit of noise from the workers and machinery.
-The couch in the sitting room had a huge stain on it.
-The junior suites only come with a queen size bed which wasn't ideal as we are used to a king size at home.
-The bathrooms were clean, but the tub had been enamel painted and had large scratches in the paint making it appear old and somewhat dirty.
-There was no ventitation in the bathroom so after showering the entire room was dripping with condensation
-I have to say it was a mixed bag of decor in the room. The curtains were quite nice as was the armchair but some of the actual furniture appeared dated.

I was leaing towards "Above Average" as my overall rating but based on the room itself could only go with Average. We enjoyed our stay, were treated well, and the hotel is nice enough but the room was, well, just average and could use some work to bring it up to a higher grade.

This is a large hotel so don't expect intimate service. As a Fairmont member (Presidents club) guests get free WiFi. The hotel bar is solid and the rooms are good. parts of the hotel are showing their age. I will return.

I have talked about how great this hotel experience was since I was there October 9-14. I was there for our work annual conference so I experienced many facets of the hotel's operations and everything was stellar. The staff was friendly, helpful, courteous and went out their way to help you out. The food was delicious, presentation was top notch and service was timely and efficient. I would stay here again and again (and they're not paying me to say this!). I have stayed in many Fairmonts and this was one of the best experiences by far.
As for the outdated rooms people have talked about, they have 1000 rooms in the hotel and they are slowly renovating them but it can't happen overnight. I stayed on floor 6 which had been renovated but the rooms that are considered a bit outdated, are actually bigger.

Room Tip: The rooms on higher floors have nice views of the city
