“I'm not sure how the hotel could be rated five stars...”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 14, 2011

The lobby sure could though! I booked as part of the LOMA conference (9/11-9/13). We booked a standard room, which was tiny, but livable. We found that the sheets had a pubic hair on them (very prominently displayed next to the welcome card). Since we arrived late (near 6 PM), we decided to go for dinner and to ask the staff at the front desk to have the bedding changed while we were out. When we got back at 9 PM, the sheets were untouched. I called the front desk and was assured that the sheets would be changed. 30 minutes passed and I had to go down and speak to a manager before anything happened.

As part of my conference, internet access was included in the room free of charge. When we went to the front desk to ask about it (because the web gate asks us to accept the charges), they said to accept the charges, because they have something on their end that will remove them. I woke up this morning to see a bill slipped under my door - that includes 3 days of DOUBLE internet charges. How lovely.

I do not expect much from hotels of any caliber, merely a clean room, and for them to adhere to their word. This hotel fails on both points and if it were not for the location, or the friendliness of the door people, I would have rated it a 1.

Also, be prepared for $28/day parking and mandatory valet service. Two things I wasn't expecting (I didn't see a sign for the $28/day and the only place it's listed on the website is on a tiny link on the bottom right titled "fact sheet").

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else.

This is an old grand hotel conveniently located in downtown Montreal. I am aware that the train and metro stations are underneath the hotel but I ended up taking cabs the entire time of my trip (3 nights) and there is no shortage of cabs. There is always a line of cabs waiting outside the hotel.

The room is big and the bed and pillows are very comfortable.

There is a charge for in-room WIFI but as other contributors pointed out, it's free upon you presenting front desk with a Fairmont President Club membership number. The membership is free to join online.

Top notch, 5 star treatment in this historical hotel. The beds are the most comfortable and the staff are the most accommodating that make you feel like you are their only concern. Great pool, just the right temperature. Clean in every way, BUT, if you are a late riser, be prepared for the ongoing closing and opening of noise from the cleaning brigade. Honestly, the noise from the magnetic closets doors, as everyone else is checking out while you are trying to sleep in is bothersome to say the least. The trade off is staying in one wonderful and comfortable hotel.

Room Tip: Don't be shy, let them know, if it is a special occasion.

I travel to Quebec occasionally on business, and highly recommend the Queen Elizabeth. It's conveniently located right above Montreal's Central Station, which is served by Amtrak.

The hotel itself is very nice, with clean and comfortable rooms. Fine dining is also available in the hotel itself, or you may choose to visit any of the multitude of nearby restaurants. Many of Montreal's attractions are within walking distance, such as the cathedral, Old Montreal, and the Bell Center, where the Canadiens play hockey.

Although downtown Montreal hotels, the Queen Elizabeth included, are not the cheapest, you can minimize your costs by taking Amtrak, if you have the time, and want to experience one of the top-ten scenic train rides in North America. A round-trip from Philadelphia to Montreal on Amtrak costs $126 mid-week. The train sets no speed records, but travels along the spectacular shores of the Hudson River and Lake Champlain. My wife and I enjoyed the scenery and the chance to relax and read a good book, letting Amtrak do the driving. It was great having the Queen Elizabeth's comfy room only steps away from the train when we arrived.

Cars are available for rental, and Montreal has a great public transit system. If you want to visit Montreal without the hassles associated with flying, try Amtrak to the Queen Elizabeth Hotel.

Great place ! We stayed for three nights midweek and brought our dog! It's the most petfriendly hotel I know! And everyone was so friendly and accommodating so that we felt completely pampered and it was the best part of our vacation!

The Farimont Queen Elizabeth provides an experience like stepping back in time to the old grand hotel. The lobby is vast and well decorated in a turn of the century decore. There is plenty of sitting areas if you are waiting on a tour bus or just want to sit with a group of people. They also rent bicycles in the lobby which is convenient.

The rooms are fantastic. Not large but not tiny either. Tall ceilings make a difference. Heavy draperies, nice linens and a thick comforter. Pillows to die for. I slept better here than in my own bed. Even a Turkish bath robe. Only down side was an old style TV but no big deal for me. The onsite restuarant and bar is nice but there are many other options near by.

Now the best part is that is that when you take the elevator to the lower level you are connected to the Montreal underground and the VIA Rail system is directly beneath the hotel. Very convenient for travel and then of couse for shopping. Also, there are several restaurants in the area including "The Keg" directly across the street. There are many beatiful old Churches and buildings in the area making it very pleasant for a walk if the weather is nice.

Pricing was very reasonable for a hotel of this caliber. It appeared to me that many tour bus companies use this property

Room Tip: Try to get a room that overlooks the Courtyard of the adjacent Chruch

From the days of John & Yoko's bed-in this is very much the luxury hotel of the 70s era. It's not an over-the-top, bend over backwards, race for the most outrageous in luxury. It's very simple and elegant. And it seems quite reasonably priced for a luxury hotel.

We stayed 2 nights the first was in a standard king. The room was #1000. It was a corner room with views on two sides one of which was dome level of Cathedrale Marie Reine-du-Monde---breath taking! While the room is quite small I absolutely loved the view!

The following night we had a queen room Gold Level. When we did our checkout, checkin, as soon as they saw we were gold level it was as if a switch went off and all of a sudden the level if attention to us went up. Not sure if I liked that. I think everyone should be treated the same. The service provided may be of a higher level, you may have a separate elevator and club lounge but the way the clients are treated should be the same regardless of who they are, which room or level they are staying at or how much they are paying.

The gold level was fantastic; service, food, rooms, attention to detail. All around superb. For the small increase in price, for what you get it has value and it is well worth it.

The fitness area is really a full gym. There was enough equipment that whatever time of day there was no wait. The equipment was a bit worn and dirty though. The pool and whirlpol were great and never crowded. There's also a wading pool for little ones. The locker room was functional and had a steam room. The down side was that the lockers were quite dirty and the steam shower smelled strongly of mold. One tip is that there is aways fruit infused water and a bowl of fruit at the fitness area desk if you need a little snack pre/post workout or between meals!

One great feature is that this hotel is directly above the central railway station (you would never know it! Not a rumble, noise or shake.) which makes it the perfect location for rail travelers. And it is central to business as well as all sightseeing.

Dear metalmaiden - Thank you for recent feedback. We're glad to hear you enjoyed your stay. The Fairmont Gold experience is indeed a different hotel lifestyle experience. As such, the private concierge services are certainly a great additional feature for the rooms located on the two executive floors. Having said that, we do value the business of all guests. On another note, thank you for comments about the fitness area and the gym. We take your feedback very seriously and please rest assured our standards our cleanliness are very high and we will rectify accordingly. Best regards.
