“Good for the need...”
Reviewed August 8, 2013

While in Montreal for the Grand Prix this summer we stayed at the hotel which was perfect for our needs. The decor could use some refreshing - begs for it- but the hotel works. I would stay again. Breakfast was tasty! Concierge floors and special club offerings were terrific perks.

Room Tip: The junior suite has a good layout for young families.

Location was convenient as less than 5 mins walk to the Old Montreal/Port District. The downside of the location was that we found the city area generally not too pleasant to walk around (the Old Montreal and Port area were nicer). This was due to an unpleasant smell on many of the sidewalks, litter on the parks/grassy areas/sidewalks in the port area, feeling unsafe in many streets due to people asking for money etc (I realise you get this in many large cities), and lots of traffic/noise/pollution etc. I felt safe walking around Old Quebec and Ottawa at night/early morning, but I would not have tried this here, so used the in house Gym treadmill for my early morning jog.

The hotel itself was difficult to check into as there is no off street area to pull into to park your car to then walk inside to check in, and no valet parking attendant meeting you at the door, and the street itself is very busy so you basically just have to pull over to the side and put your hazard lights on (parking/driving in Montreal is difficult so we had our car valet parked and left it there for the duration of our stay). There were no staff members at the downstairs bell porter/valet parking desk when we arrived (around 4pm) so I had to go up the escalator and line up for around 5-10 mins to call a staff member to help us get our luggage brought inside and car parked. The fact that there is no visible elevator at the ground floor is also a problem for wheelchair/stroller access, as to gain access to that particular elevator you need to got behind some closed doors which we were only shown to us at Day 2 of our stay (it would be good to show people with strollers this elevator on check in), so we had to use the escalator for our stroller until then. The check in desk was also poorly staffed for peak check in time (check in is 4pm) and people (including us) were being told that their rooms were not ready, and having to wait in the lobby. I had booked through a third party website, not through the Hotel Website due to there being a deal with breakfast included, and I was even told at the desk that my room was therefore not guaranteed--- say what? Thankfully the lady took pity on us with a 5yo and 2yo and with the help of a male colleague she managed to find us a room so we didn't have to wait in the lobby.

The room was very good, quiet (we asked for a room away from the elevator) and comfortable. We did not use the minibar as we brought our own snacks and water, but the minibar water was very expensive. Parents be aware that there is no English speaking TV channel available suitable for young children that we could find in the rooms. The staff all spoke very good English.

The Buffet Breakfast was amazing- very, very good. The children ate for free (5yo and 2yo) and my husband and I had vouchers included with our package. The crepes were our favourite!

The kids liked the pool but it is a smallish lap pool with no towels supplied poolside. The fitness centre is fairly well equipped however no towels or drinking water are supplied there either.

So, in summary- convenient location but definitely an inner city feel to the area around it, good rooms and excellent buffet breakfast with good staff there, but very average valet/bell porter/check in service.

Room Tip: We asked for a room away from the elevator and our room was quiet.

this hotel is literally on the edge of old Montreal, perfect for walking around seeing the sights. The front desk service was quick, efficient and very friendly. My husband does not speak French, so the front desk staff immediately spoke to us in fluent English. She had maps, directions, highlights of the area ready to show us, made sure we had everything we needed for our stay. The room itself was gorgeous, views of the St Lawrence and old Montreal. Lots to look at both day & night. The bathroom was huge, lovely amenities. The bed was one of the most comfortable hotel beds I have ever slept in, I left refreshed and wanting to bring the bed home!
The lobby & atrium at this hotel is spectacular. Very impressed, will stay again at this location first chance we get!

Room Tip: ask for a corner King Size room. Big windows, great views. Room is just slightly larger than a stand...

Our room was huge and clean. We had no view but we did have a corner room with double windows so that light was nice. The concierge desk was very helpful with everything - although they could use a second person. We did not eat in the restaurant due to the cost. But the cafe and eating places in the mall were right there and reasonably priced. The pool was very nice.

Self-park is NOT in-and-out - but we did not ever need our car so this was perfect. Great location so we could walk or take the metro everywhere. I highly recommend buying a 3-day pass or whatever number of days you are staying.

Only downside - lack of free wi-fi in the room ($20/day) meant that the lobby was filled with folks checking email, using facebook and actually doing work on their laptops to use the free wi-fi. It would be a nice addition for ALL rooms and all level of guests - whether or not they are members of the Prestige Club.

Check-in and out were great for us, so we might have just hit the right time. We had no trouble coming from the garage -- there is an elevator so it is not necessary to use the escalator as some have said. Maybe they didn't realize they just needed to switch elevators.

Stayed for one night only as a stopover on route to Quebec City.

Pros: Fast check in/out, large comfortable standard room, very clean public areas, centrally located, $23 self park, helpful staff, reasonable priced restaurant opposite ( Steak & Frites ), take your own drink.

The Intercontinental Montreal is absolutely beautiful. From the lobby to the room, bar, restaurant, concierge desk and more, whoever designed the hotel certainly didn't skimp out. The front desk staff was excellent, in particular the new employee who checked me in (she had curly hair). One of the older female clerks at the desk was quite cold, but everybody else I dealt with seemed to genuinely like their jobs. The room service menu is extensive and is delivered quickly and the salt water pool is a nice touch. You couldn't ask for a better location. The rooms are amazing and extremely comfortable. A+!

i have been putting off this review since my stay here in june, i really didnt know what i wanted to rate it it was good, but i felt i was expecting so much more. even though i did enjoy my stay i wasnt thrilled or amazed.
i was picking up my parents from their cruise so i flew in early to make sure i was there. spent 2 nights here. i was on a high floor had a pretty decent view.
the room it self was nice, had lots of modern style. the bathroom surprised me, while it was large and well stocked it had a separate walk in shower, and tub. that was a nice surprise from the regular.

i had a corner room right next to the elevator and the only thing i ever heard was the cleaning staff in the am which was nice i would have expected more noise and even considered going back downstairs to ask for a diff room when i realized it was right next to the elevator but everything turned out fine.

the cons i have about my stay, i hated the pillows on the bed. they were feather so while they looked all pretty and fluffed once you used them it was useless. and the room service/ restaurant was really pricy. $ 22 for a bagel with salmon thats just crazy.
and for almost 200$ a night, the website says there is a "mini fridge" located in the room, now while it was there- its useless, because its really a "mini bar" it has a few drinks inside and the whole thing is monitored, so if you remove a item you pay for it. so the water i bought i couldn't even put it in the fridge kinda ridiculous seeing that i payed 400$ for 2 nights.
