Quiet and comfortable

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Aug 29, 2011
I have just got back from 7 nights at the Intercontinental. I was attending a conference at the Palais de Congresse which was just across the road so the location was ideal. The hotel also sits right on the edge of the old town and is a short walk to many of Montreal's attractions.

The room was large and very quiet. The king size bed was extremely comfortable.

My only complaint is in relation to the elevator renovation work that is taking place. One morning I waited 10 minutes for an elevator before giving up, taking two staircases and ending up in a staff only area which resulted in some strange looks.

We took our second honeymoon in Montreal and this hotel was just what we needed. Located midway between Saint Catherine St. West and Old Montreal eveything was close. Indoor access to Metro station and lots of shopping. The Osco restaurant is excellent as well.

Room tip: We had a "Corner King - Inspiring" at 1608 and it was great!

The Intercontinental Montreal is a nice place to stay. WE stayed on two occasions in a corner inspiring view room in August and both time stayisfied with the room. the renovation is a success however, the bathrooms stay the intercontinental standards and are nice but not newly renovated.
one downturn was the inadequacy of the reservation system. for a trip with pre-payment apparently the room rate was not charged to the CC at the time of booking, which still needs to be verified.
one downturn in the rooms are the constant noise of the minibar. it had to be completely unplugged to be able to sleep.

This was a very nice experience downtown Montreal. The atmosphere and the deco were very nature and contemporary oriented, very nice feeling. We had a terrific corner suite, we loved it. Lots of space with a fantastic view of Montreal. Short distance from metro station. A great Intercontinental experience !

Stayed here July 8 & 9 as we we're attending U2 concert. Room rate was a little higher than I liked but that could be said about most hotels in Montreal that weekend with 80,000 people in town for a concert each night. We chose a rate that included breakfast and valet parking which basically worked out to free breakfast.

The rooms were very nice and larger than I would have expected for a downtown location. Beds were very comfortable. Actually meant to check what kind they were since we are in the market to replace ours at home. The bathroom, again very nice and large, had a tub and separate large corner shower.

The room rate does not include internet access which I think in this day and age should be standard but this seems to be the norm for luxury hotels. For those that want internet access, remember to ask for the $10/nt package when you check in which includes internet and long distance. If you use the internet without it, it will cost you $5 more per night and does not include long distance. The internet is wired, not wireless which is a bit of an annoyance when both of you have a computer plus the phones etc. but I now tend to pack an old wireless router when I travel to avoid the problem.

As we were there for the U2 weekend the Metro had a special deal for unlimited use passes. Check-in was fast and efficient especially consider the number of people checking is as we arrived. When checking in the the front desk staff asked whether we were there for U2 and we provided were with an info package regarding and advised that they had a supply of the Metro passes there. Being able to buy them at the hotel was a blessing since the lineups to buy them at Metro station were very long. Hotel is right between 2 stations about a 5 minute walk in either direction. Not sure about getting to them underground because the whether was beautiful anytime we had to get there.

The breakfast included in the rate was a buffet with was good and well above par for a hotel breakfast. Car never left the garage while we were there so only had to call the valet when we were leaving. Called 5 minute ahead of leaving the room and waited less than a minute for the car to pull up. All hotel staff we dealt with were pleasant and eager to help. Not sure about any of the other facilities as we were kept pretty busy all weekend.

Overall a great stay. Would stay here again and highly recommend.

We enjoyed our stay here during the Jazz Fest. I have to admit I was a bit uncertain about our stay considering some of the mixed reviews, but I saw no evidence of anything that would discourage us from staying again. The hotel is well located just a short walk to Old Montreal (a great breakfast/lunch place is just 10 minutes away...leave the hotel, and then turn right towards Old Montreal..it's the great shop with all kinds of herbs in the windows!) and a bit of a further walk to Downtown Montreal. Our room was spacious and well appointed and suiting the boutique hotel image of this hotel. Service was always friendly and we enjoyed two visits to their Absinthe Bar as well. This was a great boutique hotel in the heart of Montreal.
