HI Montreal Hostel

It is easy to find and get to by bus and metro. It's within walking location to cool shopping downtown. My complaint would be it lacks good tourist information. They couldn't recommend anything. Just gave me a map. Take lessons from the HI in Vancouver and have some info printed off with directions. I had a lot of trouble getting wi-fi.

Bonjour Tracey!

Thanks for your review and comments. Honestly, if I would only have been given a map and no informations about the city when checking-in a hostel, I would be deceived too... It is definitly not the type of customer service we encourage the staff to do and I have to say that if you experience that, then we failed.

Of course, we always try to improve the quality of experience for the guests so you can be sure we'll work on it. Looking at what others do is a good way to improve, so thanks for mentionning HI-Vancouver, we'll check that out!

Thanks again for your comment and hopefully when you'll come back, your stay will be slightly better!

Bonne journée! :)

Gabriel

ok for large groups or school kids but not for the traveller. Lacks personality, feels like a factory and a bit tacky. Why go to a big chain when there are so many other excellent independent places to try ? It's close to the city but not the parts of the city that you'd want to visit. All the facilities, hundreds of rooms, no charm

Dear customer,

First of all, thank you for your review. I have to admit that I'm sorry if your stay wasn't as good as what you expected...

Of course we are a big hostel, though we always try to bring a good vibe and a cosy mood for the people. Having a wide variety of free activities every days (pubcrawls, walks in the city, ice skating in the old Montréal, etc.) is one way we have to acheive it.

Regarding the location, our customers are most generally positive about it as we are a walking distance from the main shopping street (Ste-Catherine), bars and restaurants.

Of course, as it is theoritically impossible to please each and every customer at the same level, be sure though that your review will be taken seriously and we'll definitly keep on working to improve ourselves and the global experience in our hostel.

Sincerely,
Gabriel.

Stayed here for one night with my boyfriend. We had a private room with an en suite, it was very clean and was a nice size. The staff were very helpful, as were the other visitors. It's very close to restaurants and shops. The next morning they were able to hold our bags for us while we went for breakfast which was so helpful! We were in a nice quiet area of the hostel and the bed was super comfortable! Will definitely return!

I decited to stay here a night to visit a friend.
The staff and other visitors were very friendly.
The fact that its so close to the bus station makes it very convenient for late night arrivals.
It always seems like something is planned for the night you are staying at, so its definitely not boring.

Room Tip: I stayed in a six bunk room, i didn't mind but choose a 4 bed if you want more privacy.

This is a basic no frills hostel. The place is clean and quite. This is certainly not a party hostel, but rather a nice place to relax and base yourself out of to see the city. The staff was super friendly and gave great recommendations on where to go and what to do.

We had a room with a private bathroom. The room was small but it did the job. The only window in the room looked in to the bar/cafe area so the curtain had to be pulled if changing. Could be noisy at times with people coming and going late at night but that's the life in a hostel I suppose. Had good washing facilities which we took advantage of and there didn't seem to be a wait to use them. The cafe offered well priced meals. I discovered while travelling in Canada that wine is not the drink of choice...beer is. If you did get wine it was a choice of red or white and nothing more specific and was on the whole was either undrinkable or just tolerable. The front desk staff were great and the chap in the bar at night was lovely. The guys doing the breakfasts in the morning didn't seem to be very happy in their lives! The hostel was pretty central and close to a metro station.

Hello Julie! I'm really glad with your comment! Many thanks for your awesome words! Indeed, I have to admit that beer is definitly more drinked then wine in Canada... :) I'll let the staff know that you found them great!

Maybe we'll see you again.
Take good care :)

The hi hostel is a cozy and clean hostel. We enjoy our stay here pretty much!
However, the heater in our room didn't work at all and the room gets so cold at night!
The staff at the counter is friendly but when I inquired about the failure of the heater, they just kept saying it should work!
They finally came to check the heater as I just couldn't turn it on. Finding out the heater actually broke down, they offered us another room on the same floor and some extra blankets if we didn't want to change the room.
I will definitely rate this hostel for five points if the staff came earlier to check the heater!

Dear customer!

I'm really glad you enjoyed your stay at our place!

Though, I have to admit that we failed regarding the heating issue... In general we have awesome comments about the staff so it's a little deceving if they didn't help you right away :-( We'll make sure to fix the heater very soon in any case!

Wish you a good travel, and hopefully we'll see you again!
