Tranquil hostel in the heart of Montreal. Bar downstairs and friendly staff. They also offer a free breakfast*. Sometimes fills up on weekends. Book in advance. :)Really there's not much more to stay. You're in Montreal!!! How much time do you actually plan on staying in the hostel

We stayed in a private room for 3 nights in August. The hostel is very welcoming and ideal in terms of location as the walk to the centre is 10 minutes away and restaurants are round the corner. It was very easy to get to from the greyhound station, 5 minutes on the train to a station a minute away from the hostel.

The room was clean and the shower was fully functional. There is not much space to move in there as it is very compact and as it is downstairs with low windows, when you leave it feels like walking out of a cave. Can't really complain for the low price compared to other places in Montreal.

There are very good facilities such as a computers, tvs, a pool table and laundry. You do have to pay for breakfast however which I found quite unusual for a hostel of this type.

Would definitely recommend this place to any low budget traveller!

This hostel is quite dirty and I had a couple of problems there but generally it was ok.
First, the staff was not very friendly and was never there when I had questions to ask at the front desk.
The rooms are quite ok even though the beds are not comfortable at all. You have a bathroom for each room which is good.
The location of the hostel is not so far of the most important places in Montréal but I found the street not so safe and noisy even if I slept in "underground" room.
So, if you're just looking for the cheapest place go there otherwise find something else!

Pros
- easy to find location in safe, central part of town
- downtown, with restaurants, parks, within 1-4 blocks walk
- near festivals and parades
- 1 block from Metro (subway) stop
- $15/24-hour parking right across the street w/ night attendant
- rooms very clean & have fans so not too smelly
- bathrooms very very clean
- showers have complimentary soap dispensers
- beautiful modern kitchen, pub/bar, dining area, lounge and pool table (facilities look like an IKEA catalog)
- offers a convenient $25/4-hour bike tour around Montreal
- private bathrooms in smaller person rooms (i.e. 4-person)

Cons
- a bit of distance from Plateau, the bohemian area with more restaurants/stuff going on (however, you can take the metro)
- rooms could use a little more lighting/windows
- more expensive than other hostels in Montreal, You definitely pay for the value of staying at an HI hostel ($42/night vs. $23/night at another place for the same type of 4-person room, though the HI one was much nicer and had its own bathroom)

Very pleasant experience
Pros: Location: It is very close to downtown and Latin quarter and to old town/old port for that
matter. About 20 minutes walk to where the jazz stages are. And at the same
time it is on the quiet street in a quiet neighborhood. So great place for rest
Rooms: Small and cozy. We had a private room, so I can't say more about dorms. But
room was clean and comfortable. A little too small, but it had more than
everything for the budget vacation.
Atmosphere: There is a very cozy bar with kitchen. You may buy food there or cook
your own. They provide fridges for you to store your groceries and
kitchen utensils - forks, knifes spoons, cups, frying pans, etc...
Being a sort of young crown oriented, the place is very quiet at night.
There were no music or partying at nights.
Wi-fi works everywhere, no complaints about that
Staff: Nice and knowledgeable and not minding to help. They were nice enough to
print the directions for us to some places we were going.

Cons: Nothing really to mention. Maybe the price, but we were there at the times of the jazz festival, so higher rates were to be expected.

I liked this hostel a lot. All comforts and amenities were included. I stayed in a four-bed dorm with its own bathroom, which was really useful. It was very clean, too, and there were lockers and clothes hooks. Plus, lots of outlets for charging the usual electronic stuff. The front desk staff was also extremely friendly and helpful with any questions. The bar/restaurant downstairs was very cosy and friendly and the prices were reasonable. The hostel is very social without being TOO party-like - it has a good balance. The location is also excellent! Right in town within walking distance to many points of interest, AND, it is also next to the metro. Very good choice for those visiting Montreal!

I love hostels. I've stayed at many. I've never had a bad experience like I had here. I had a confirmation email from the hostel for two rooms, but they refused to give me the second one. The hostel itself is nestled amongst vacant parking lots (on weekends). It seemed to have very few occupants, but even so, the kitchen sink area was pretty gross. The big screen tv is not hooked up; the public toilet in the common area had no toilet paper, all together this place did not have its act together.

Room Tip: Go to a different establishment. Or don't expect what you booked, in any case.

Dear guest,
I love hostel too… and so does my team. For that reason, I’d like to give you my most sincere apologies for the horrible experience you seem to have had while staying with us. From the average scoring we get on the different booking engines, we are normally pretty good at meeting our guest needs… But it is also true that we fail every once in a while for different reasons. In your case, we obviously messed up a great deal and I am very sorry for it. On a positive note, I want to assure you that we listen carefully to all our guest comments and suggestions in order to offer the best possible accommodation option to stay in Montreal. We have just recently opened the Hi-St-Antoine hostel, and we still had a bunch of challenges to face as you stayed with us, but should you give us a second chance, I am confident that we would be up to the challenge!

Hoping that you still had a great time in our beloved city of Montréal!
