“Good location, ok hotel”
Reviewed October 7, 2012

This is a long overdue review since we stayed here in Sept. 2009 but I was planning another trip to Montreal and wanted to share my stay with others who may also be looking at this hotel.

We selected this hotel because we are part of the Hilton honors program and the hotel was within walking distance to my business meeting. The hotel is in a good location and also within walking distance to all the sights we wanted to see as we were visiting Montreal for the first time. During our long weekend stay, we were able to check out Old Montreal, chinatown, walk to the top of parc du mont royal to check out the great views, go to the casino (very smoky) and shop along Rue St. Catherine. Montreal was a great city to walk. We walked everywhere and found getting cabs a little tougher unless in popular parts of the city.

The hotel: The entrance is strange since the hotel is located on the top floors of an office building. The facade was not very pretty. The elevators were slow to get to the hotel and the layout was awkward. The lobby is located in the middle of the two wings of the hotel. The hallways are dark and dated. There was not much wait for our hotel rooms when we checked in but we were placed right near the stairway that led to the 2nd floor of the hotel. We could constantly hear the banging of doors and people walking up and down the stairs. We requested rooms near one another but was informed that the hotel was booked (according to the front desk guy) and the rooms were the only ones available at the time. The other room that we booked was in a slightly better location, but not much better. The front desk gentleman that checked us in was a little rude and not very informative. I have worked in customer service jobs all my life and I always try to be pleasant to people. He may have been overwhelmed but he could've been more pleasant.

Once in the room, the beds were very comfortable but the room was a bit dark. Our view was of the roof and was not great. At least we had sun coming in to brighten the dark room. We actually welcomed the noise of the A/C since it drowned the noise of all the people talking and walking up and down the stairs near our door.

The pool was great. The only downside was lack of seating, especially seating in the sunnier areas. They even provided a floating life jacket for my daughter who enjoyed the pool. Towels were also provided.

We did try the bar in the hotel and the staff and drinks were good. The workout room was nice as well.

Overall, I would look for another hotel in Montreal with better amenities included in the price.

During our trip to Canada and the US we stayed at the Hilton Montreal for two nights and this on Hhonors points. We did not expect a lot of this hotel as reviews were not excellent.

We arrived in the afternoon at the Trudeau airport where we took a cab to the hotel. The exterior of the hotel is unattractive and nobody helped us with the luggage. From the street level we took the elevator to the lobby where we were unpleasantly surprised by staff members wearing Tshirts with the message that they strike. Although it was not noticeable. We went to the reception where we were welcomed as Diamond guests and received our key from our Twin room with city view. We also got access to the executive lounge which was on the ground floor.

It was a bit difficult to find our room but eventually at the end of the corridor was our, bit dated, room. The room itself was very standard with the bathroom with a bath, sink and toilet. The bathroom was extremely dirty with both black normal and pubic hair all over the floor. The bedroom had two beds and a desk. The window was old and broken. Also the mini bar was empty.

There was free internet in the room. But no Diamond welcome, no fruit and even no water. A big disappointment !

The executive lounge was renovated but the selection was just okay. The alcoholic beverages were at a charge which is ridicules. No single executive lounge charges for that, except here in Montreal. Breakfast next morning was poor with a very basic selection of food and drinks. Service is almost non excitant but quality is okay.

Location is pretty good, not very far from the old city center and all attractions are walk able and the train station is next doors.

The concierge however Mr. Tanguy was not that helpful to me. I just got a map without any info. We did receive some flyers but that was it. He could not even help me with stamps as the gist shop in the hotel sells them. But they ran out so Mr. Tanguy charged me over 2 CAD for a normal stamp for Canada : rip off.

Overall a normal hotel but I would not recommend it, nor will I return.

This hotel really surprised us with it's location on the roof of a building, The building is used for business but the top floor is the Hilton Hotel. It gave the hotel a really interesting feel. Almost like being at a very nice island resort. The inside is deceptively large when you consider the look from the outside.

The staff were very friendly, spoke both fluent french and English so there were zero problems communicating. The rooms offer coffee maker with tea, coffee and decaff coffee, mini fridge and safe. We were getting mixed answers in regards to the WiFi in room online. But when we arrived they gave us free WiFi in room with no charge, very easy to use as we used our tablet to connect.

The hotel is not far from anything you may need, it is across the road from a large train terminal station so those taking VIA can just cross the road to the hotel. A very short walk will get you to Rue St. Catherine where all the shops/stores and eateries are located. Also very close to Old Montreal.

I guess the only complaint we would make is the room was dusty, not from sitting dust but whoever cleaned it used a dusty duster to clean so it left a lot of dust on the nice new updated counter tops, head board, desk etc. But that was not bad enough to never go back.

The hotel caters to a more mature clientele so other than slamming doors the nights were nice and quiet, the hotel was not loud at all.

We have no complaints preventing us from going back, so in the near future we will be booking to go back to this hotel.

A unique location on the roof has brought us back again and again. You can walk anywhere downtown and old town. Connected to the indoor walkways to go anywhere. Rooms are large, lose a star because you have to pay for wireless connection. Clean, good service, nicely appointed rooms. A love quiet and they manage to kill almost all hallway noise.
We wanted to try something different last time but after two nights of disaster transferred here again. Still my favorite place to stay in Montreal.

I stayed here for 12 nights on my first business trip to Montreal, as the usual hotel that our company frequents was fully booked. From the outside the hotel is not very appealing but on the inside I was pleasantly surprised. There is a large garden and pool right by the lobby. The staff was very helpful and the bed was super comfortable. The hotel is in a fantastic spot; on top of a metro station, next to the main train station (and food courts), near the bus station, right off the freeway from the airport, 4 blocks from rue St. Catherine shopping and 5 blocks from Old Montreal. Rooms either have a view of the pool and gardens or you can opt for a room with a view of the city. There are only 2 elevators from the ground floor to the lobby, so it can be a bit backed up at times, but that is the only complaint I can think of. A great choice for a Montreal stay.

The outside of this hotel is not very appealing, but you will soon be forgetting that upon walking into the lobby and greeted by the wonderful views of the outdoor pool, open indoor bar and the very attentive staff.

The physical structure of this building is a little deceiving in that you take the elevator to the top floor where the lobby is located, along with the rooftop pool. If you plan on swimming, I would recommend staying on the 11th floor so that you will have direct access to the pool instead of going through the lobby...

Also, if you are a Hilton Honors member, you will not want to miss the morning and early evening offerings in the executive lounge.

This hotel is close to everything and I will be definitely staying here again.

Room Tip: If you plan on swimming at the rooftop pool, see if you can stay on the 11th Floor.

Very large room, superb bed. The lifts to the lobby can be a pain - long waits. Pretty good location. If you're desperate for a McDonalds fix, it's just round the corner. All the old quarter restaurants are a short cab ride way.
