This is a long overdue review since we stayed here in Sept. 2009 but I was planning another trip to Montreal and wanted to share my stay with others who may also be looking at this hotel.
We selected this hotel because we are part of the Hilton honors program and the hotel was within walking distance to my business meeting. The hotel is in a good location and also within walking distance to all the sights we wanted to see as we were visiting Montreal for the first time. During our long weekend stay, we were able to check out Old Montreal, chinatown, walk to the top of parc du mont royal to check out the great views, go to the casino (very smoky) and shop along Rue St. Catherine. Montreal was a great city to walk. We walked everywhere and found getting cabs a little tougher unless in popular parts of the city.
The hotel: The entrance is strange since the hotel is located on the top floors of an office building. The facade was not very pretty. The elevators were slow to get to the hotel and the layout was awkward. The lobby is located in the middle of the two wings of the hotel. The hallways are dark and dated. There was not much wait for our hotel rooms when we checked in but we were placed right near the stairway that led to the 2nd floor of the hotel. We could constantly hear the banging of doors and people walking up and down the stairs. We requested rooms near one another but was informed that the hotel was booked (according to the front desk guy) and the rooms were the only ones available at the time. The other room that we booked was in a slightly better location, but not much better. The front desk gentleman that checked us in was a little rude and not very informative. I have worked in customer service jobs all my life and I always try to be pleasant to people. He may have been overwhelmed but he could've been more pleasant.
Once in the room, the beds were very comfortable but the room was a bit dark. Our view was of the roof and was not great. At least we had sun coming in to brighten the dark room. We actually welcomed the noise of the A/C since it drowned the noise of all the people talking and walking up and down the stairs near our door.
The pool was great. The only downside was lack of seating, especially seating in the sunnier areas. They even provided a floating life jacket for my daughter who enjoyed the pool. Towels were also provided.
We did try the bar in the hotel and the staff and drinks were good. The workout room was nice as well.
Overall, I would look for another hotel in Montreal with better amenities included in the price.
