“Chic perfection”
Reviewed February 15, 2012

This place is a fabulous little gem in Montreal. The rooms are chic and perfectly minimalistic. I love the detail of the full glass wall in our bathroom that made the room seem much more ample. The staff here was so pleasant and helpful. The front desk helped us pick the best night spots and shopping spots. The location is really close to all the restaurants and bars. In fact when i asked for a cab one of the hotel valets was not busy and drove me to the restaurant with a hotel vehicle! The breakfast here was also delicious.
I have stayed both here and at the W and found my stay here much more pleasant. While both are on par status wise i found Le Germain more appealing and relaxed. Of course the W offers more of an exterior wow factor and a trendy bar on site. But overall my experience at Le Germain more pleasant. I definitely recommend it!

My wife and I stayed at Le Germain for Valentine's 2012 (1 night).

I've always heard great things about Le Germain hotels, and my stay validated that.

We stayed in a Deluxe room - King (with bath), which has views on the West side; if you're not particular about the bath, then a regular room with a rain shower and views on the east side would be a bit cheaper and just as nice (and better view)

The room was very large and modern: the bathroom was well appointed and had great toiletteries, there was plenty of room for luggage, a very nice flat screen TV with all the A/V options to hook up various gizmos, plenty of closet space and in general every detail of the room was well thought out. And the BED ... out of this world! Extraordinarily comfortable, you'll sleep like a baby!

The location of the hotel is very convenient for those wishing to stay in the business district. We preferred it to other locations as it was on a quiet street with less hustle and bustle (versus Le St. Martin on de Maisonneuve, for example, which is on a very busy corner), and yet a 5-10 minute walk away from restaurants, spa, cinema, shopping, etc.

The lobby of the hotel is beautiful, the doormen are very nice and welcoming and just sitting in the lobby you get the feeling of being a super chic boutique hotel (which is exactly what it is). The lobby has a nice fireplace, a helpful concierge and a very good quality cappucino bar (complimentary). Normally I'm not a big fan of those "self-serve" cappucino machines, but this one grinds the beans and produces great tasting cappucino!

The restaurant (where breakfast is served - and included in the rate) is on the mezzanine level and is EXCELLENT. The breakfast is advertised as continental and is buffet, but there were a variety of hot meal choices, including eggs, pancakes, etc. Add to that a excellent variety of pastries, juices, fruits, etc., in a beautiful room overlooking the lobby and Mansfield street, and you have a recipe for success!

The staff were extremely professional and helpful, from the cleaning lady to the restaurant staff, you got the impression they all wanted to make sure you were enjoying your stay.

If you want to stay in downtown, and you want a boutique hotel experience, then Le Germain is right for you! I've stayed at the W in Old Montreal, and I MUCH prefer Le Germain (unless you want to be in Old Montreal, that's a different story).

Room Tip: If you're not picky about having a bathtub, choose a room on the east side (facing Mansfield str...

I stayed three nights at Le Germain. The hotel is a converted office building and they have done a good job in making the most of the building's bones. Rooms are large with nice windows and high ceilings. Decor is "chic boutique," in other words minimalist.. Bed was very comfortable. Room service and restaurant offerings in the hotel are just serviceable - don't expect spectacular.

I love the Germain Group hotels and agree with the previous reviewer that too try to stay in them when I'm in Canada. This hotel has less charm than the Germain in Quebec City but just as much minimalist chic. Very attentive staff, fabulous coffee service in the lobby (wish there was the option of china cups instead of just disposable), super-comfortable bedding, gorgeous bathrooms. The glass-walled shower means you need to be prepared to be a bit of an exhibitionist but that's part of the fun of the hotel. Hotel breakfast in Laurie Raphael is delicious and relaxed although the getting any table service for coffee etc. was difficult.

Room Tip: The standard rooms are pretty small--if you are a large person or you really like to spread out, you...

Le Germain has very good service (front desk in particular), with comfy beds and great design. Rooms have nice little touches, good quality furnishings and nice flat screen tvs.

As with many boutiques, I do find that you sacrifice a bit on some of the things I come to rely on as a business traveler. I often have to work in the roomand find that the workspace, while efficiently designed is small. Le Germain's restaurant (androom service) closes at 10:30, which can be too early if working late. I've found myself having to wolf down $10 bags of cashews late at night when I would have loved a good meal. Also, no in-house dry cleaning which is inconvenient if forced to stay an extra night and you need a clean shirt.

All in all, though, these are relatively small complaints. Le Germain gets it right on the important stuff (location, service and comfort).

Not only would I recommend it but I am heading back this week!

I've stayed at Le Germain many many times.
I go to Montreal on business trips quite often and ever since I discovered this little gem, I have refused to stay elsewhere.
My traveling dates are usually flexible and I have moved them on occasion to make sure I don't stay anywhere else.
The staff is very helpful and caters to every need guest could have!
The restaurant is also great and breakfast bagels are a must

Always looking fwd to going back!

Room Tip: Any room facing Mansfield
