My husband and I stayed at the Maison Pierre du Calvet for two nights. The staff were all extremely courteous and helpful.
The room we had reserved was on the ground floor and due to its proximity to the street did not allow for the windows to open. When we arrived the room had been shut up, so it was stuffy. We kindly asked whether A/C was available in the room or if we could have a small fan. We were fine with that. The management decided that it would be better to move us as they could not guarantee that the room would be any cooler by the evening. We were immediately whisked off to a larger room upstairs with windows that opened and a comfortable sitting area.

The room was nicely appointed and furnished in an 18th Century style that complimented the thick stone walls and large windows. Our room had a gas fireplace and I can well imagine sitting there on a cold winter night watching the snow come down with a brandy in hand.

The breakfast room is bright and cheery, decorated in a simpler, French country style. The lobby area had large parrots and other tropical birds surrounded by lush greenery, and a terrasse in the courtyard for meals outside. It's location in the heart of Vieux Montreal makes stepping out the door and into the city quite easy. Treat yourself to a visit!

We stayed one night in order to break up a long drive from Quebec to home. The counter staff were all as friendly as could be. They have a restaurant in the hotel. The food is fantastic, but be prepared to wait for it. The waitstaff is friendly, enthusiastic and SLOW. Many trips back and forth to the kitchen carrying a single item such as a knife for a patron, or a soup spoon. I think they could have carried a bread basket or two, or ice water, or menus!

The hotel room was opulent, but very dark. The clock on the mantle had stopped at 9:30. The reading lights over the bed were either broken, or the bulbs were burnt out, and the wallpaper in the bathroom was starting to peel a bit. Reading in bed was impossible because the bedside lamps didn't give off enough light.

When we checked out, we noticed they had combined our room and our friends room on my credit card, and left off the meals and bar tabs. We brought it to their attention, but they were unable to locate any restaurant or bar receipts. We told them to add it to our charge if they came across it, which they haven't yet.

This is not a place I would return to.

right off i was always interested in this house having been to montreal several times i swore i would stay there someday. the inside is beautiful with all the stone and opulant fabrics in the drapery.our room was a king suite. very nice in size . and quite romantic. and the matress was comfortable. On the downside. be prepared if you have a bad back as i do. the cushions on any of the furniture are so deeply worn ( as in no springs left) that i couldnt find anywhere comfortable to sit when i wasnt sleeping. when they say worn they mean worn. i also feel you can keep ones place and have the original feel of the house but still dust. sorry i know some might disagree but this is my review.i felt like the rugs were never vaccumes ( also note i never heard one the entire 4 days) and the dust thing bugged me. Would i stay there again probably not been there done that and after 4 days i felt somewhat disconected from the outside world as there isnt a tv in sight ( which was also why we went ) but when the airport employees went on strike and would let people get to there planes. i needed more info that i could find in the new paper,I am by no means a tv junky but an hour of news a day i discovered i guess i prefer , there was only so much reading i brought with me.all in all remeber there are pluses and minuses to everything. so as long as you come prepared of these issues you will be fine.

This is a wonderfully colorful, historical, romantic place to stay.
Located on one end of "vieille ville" this is a supurb place to get away on vacation or even stay (as I did) while traveling on business.
Highly recommended.

La Maison Pierre du Calvet in old Montreal is truly a one of a kind place. The proprietors have painstakenly decorated each room individually with wonderful taste. The building is the oldest residence in Montreal. Breakfast is very nicely served in the greenhouse rooms accompanied by the chirping of many birds. There are numerous areas to sit by fireplaces and relax or have a cocktail. There is a very highly regarded restaurant within the premises which we also recommend highly. The location allows you to stroll leisurely through old Montreal and never be far from home.
