We have stayed at the Auberge several times now when visiting Montreal and value it for the fact that it is not a sterile hotel with impersonal service. Each time we have had a different room with different views, some better some worse, but that is the luck of the draw and also dependent on whether you book a "basic" room or deluxe, etc. Sometimes you can be lucky and be upgraded.

The room rates include a great buffet breakfast, nicely equipped rooms and great personal service. The inn itself has a typical European charm which translates to smaller rooms and some stairs to climb, although some people may consider this to be a disadvantage we welcomed the exercise. A kitchen with cheese, crackers, coffee, tea, etc. is always open for people to help themselves.

The hotel has 3 parking spaces available but street parking is usually available and is free. Nearby streets such as Duluth, St. Denis and Mount Royale have large numbers of restaurants, the Metro is close by and there is a nice park across the street.

We will continue to stay here for future visits.

Stayed 3 nights at the Auberge, chosen primarily for its location (near park and eclectic neighborhood) and included breakfast (hate to schlep through a city looking for a breakfast place). We enjoyed being across the street from Parc la Fontaine, and walked many streets of the Mont Plateau neighborhood. Our room was fine; its 2nd floor, back of building location afforded no view, but it was quiet. The only annoying noise was from the plumbing--water from third floor bath above us traveling through the pipes! And because the room was naturally dark, it could have used stronger lighting. But it was clean and otherwise comfortable. Breakfast was great -- expanded continental -- and the availability of snacks and fresh coffee at any time was very welcome. The staff was friendly, and bilingual (French/English). The nearest metro stop is about a 10 minute walk, and there are no elevators in the auberge, so not an ideal location if you have problems walking. But if you like to explore away from downtown, on foot, it's a good place. Best not to have a car, as parking is on street, and very tight.

Room Tip: Rooms facing front of building would be sunnier and face the Park.

We stayed at the Auberge for two nights at the end of August. We were very disappointed in the hotel in general and our room in particular. Both are very tired and in need of a renovation. We were on the 3rd floor (no elevator) with a view of the side street, not the beautiful park that we were expecting. For $200 per night we feel we would have been much better off at another hotel.
Plus they only have 3 parking spots so we had to leave our car on the street which we weren't very happy about doing.
Reading the other reviews I had to wonder if we did indeed stay at the same hotel.

Room Tip: Don't stay there

We stayed for just one night but it was very nice. The mentioned in other reviews the property is located in a very vibrant and the park across the street is a lovely perk. The suite we stayed in had a jaccuzzi tub in the master suite which was really great after a long day of walking. The breakfast was good. The staff was very helpful and assisted in directions and suggestions. We were able to park at the hotel for no additional charge.

The location right on the park is beautiful, and the park itself is great for a relaxing walk. Several good restaurants are located nearby.
The auberge itself : the deco of the entrance / breakfast area and our bathroom felt tired, although the room itself felt fresh and up - to - date with its green colour scheme and direct view onto the park.
Most of the staff were friendly and helpful. We deliberately chose 3 different places to stay over our 2 week visit to Montreal to experience different sides to the city. We chose this smallish auberge (the priciest of all the places we stayed) because we were hoping for more individual service but received the same service as at the Novotel, which was better than expected.
Overall we enjoyed our stay which served us well as a launch pad to explore the city.

Room Tip: Our room at the front was spacious and had an excellent view onto the park and was reasonably quiet...

The auberge is located across from the Parc de la Fontaine, a lovely park where you can stroll and rest. It's close to downtown, but not in downtown, which meant it was very quiet. Staff was very helpful—set us up with a lovely bike tour of Montreal neighborhoods. The breakfast was very good and coffee and tea are always available!!

We had a wonderful time!! And when my 20-year-old daughter left the guidebooks in her room, they mailed them back to me!!

The house is quaint, the location is ideal for anyone who wants to really feel like you are living in a true Montreal neighborhood. A 10 minute walk to the Metro will get you wherever you need to go and buses run throughout the day and will get you right back to Rue Rachel Est. The staff is delightful and helpful, the breakfast was varied and filling. If you are not in shape - do not get a room on an upper floor!

If you like to bike - this is the IDEAL place to stay - with the park across the street and a zillion bixi bikes to be had - a bikerès mecca.

A very good experience in a charming b&b - we would return in a second!
