4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2013

Stayed during the Montreal Jazz Festival. Excellent location for the festival. Also walking distance to Old Montreal, the Latin Quarter, China Town. Hotel is located above a shopping mall.
Very close to some great eateries as well.

Hyatt may not be a 5 star hotel chain but I certainly expected a lot more from this hotel. According to some reviews and the staff, the lobby was fairly recently renovated. There is a huge bar that opens up to the lobby...odd placement but it was quite modern and it looked like a nice place to have a drink. The hotel, however, should have spent a lot of the money on the elevators and room upgrades. Once you get on the elevator to go up to your room, you can truly see how old this hotel is. The elevators are loud, shaky and very hot compared to the rest of the hotel. The corridors are desinged in a very 80s/90s hotel style and the rooms are pretty average. Our room's coffee maker and fridge didn't work properly and since we had a little baby with us, it was pretty frustrating keeping milk and baby food fresh. Thankfully the staff at the Starbucks across the street were super nice and were able to give us hot water every morning for baby oatmeal.

The hotel is also very oddly placed...you have to take an elevator to the sixth floor to get to the lobby, and then of course another elevator to your room.

One positive (although didn't use it myself) seemed to be the pool. It was pretty popular with all guests.

Unless you're going to the Art Gallery across the hotel, I would recommend steering away from this hotel. For the price, it's simply note good enough. Stay in Old Montreal, where smaller hotels will pay more attention to your stay.

Stayed here for 3 nights and I have to say Bianca at the front desk was outstanding, room was basic really needs some updates, not alot to choose from at bar/restaurant @ night but if you have club pass Olga just made our stay. Hotel is easy walk to anywhere.

We stayed here as a family and having just stepped off a twelve hour train journey we very grateful for the help and cheerful welcome of all the staff we met.

The hotel boasts about its award winning refurbishment but I think ours was still in line for an upgrade. It was a nice enough room but it was looking tired with wet damage on the bathroom door and rusty hinges.

The bar area is a bit odd with its 70s design but drinks were fine and our late night supper was very good.

Very well positioned for walking to most central Montreal attractions, even the old port is only 15 minutes away so this was a good base for our city break here.

However the most important aspect of this hotel is the staff. The epitome of their service for my family was retrieving my sons teddy bear after we had left town and sending it on to us.

Pretty standard Hyatt Regency-level property. Arrived mid-morning and was pleased to be immediately checked in to a better-view room on a high floor, which may or may not have been because I'm Diamond. Room was fine. More like good, but with an hour, a bottle of wallpaper glue, and some scratch cover I could have made it better. Hardly a comment restricted to them, but why hotels never seem to have somebody constantly making the handyman rounds doing that sort of thing is beyond me.

The Regency Club is a great, large space with a business alcove that is not used to it's potential. Nothing wrong so much as opportunities missed. Hours are really short as described in prior posts and limited beverages during the day. The evening presentation looked great but tasted quite average. There did not appear to be a separate dessert set up but we didn't make it back in time to know.

Breakfast was a sort of a mass-feeding buffet only open at breakfast. Busy but no complaints about food quality. Maybe the best of both worlds in that you get a hot breakfast and a club.

This hotel seems to be more or less built on top of a mall. Don't know how you would fix that, but as noted by others I didn't find a good direct access, and the routes I found involved stairs. After a minor knee sprain outside I became more empathetic for mobility impaired guests.

Room Tip: Downtown Montreal may now be accessed from the airport by express Bus Route 747. Stop 7 is at the c...

Great location. I stayed one night and was able to check-in at noon. Not sure if it helped that I'm a Hyatt platinum member, but that was huge being able to get into the room early.

Amazing view of the city from my 12th floor room.

The rooms are clean, but clearly outdated. Shower pressure not up to speed. Comfortable beds, but pillows and linens could use an upgrade. Basically nothing special about the room and you'd expect something a little special for a room that goes for $200+ a night.

Overall, a decent hotel, but I wouldn't automatically return on my next visit to Montreal.

We booked this hotel for $90 per night using Priceline name-your-own-price for a 2-night vacation stay. At that price, we were thrilled with what we got. The location is fantastic---right on Place des Artes, very close to museums and concert halls. The Montreal Film Festival was just getting started outside the hotel as we left. Jazz Festival is also held there. Even without any specific symphony tickets or festival plans, we just enjoyed hanging out on the plaza on the warm summer evenings---perfect for relaxing and people-watching.

The room we had seemed fairly recently renovated and was everything you'd expect from a Hyatt Regency.

The pool was probably about 25-30 feet long---almost long enough for lap-swimming. We liked that the pool area had huge glass sliding doors---In warm weather with those doors open, the pool got lots of fresh air and almost felt like you were outside.

There's a starbucks just outside the hotel door, and a food court down in the shopping mall below the hotel: both handy for quick coffee or snacks.

Old Montreal is a modest walk in one direction, and Mont Royal / McGill are a modest walk in another direction. All are well connected by the nearby Metro as well if you choose.

In short, for what we look for in a hotel, this place was ideal, and we got it at a price that made us very happy!

Room Tip: Our 8th floor room looked out on the plaza's dancing fountains---mesmerizing to watch both day a...
