“Apartments located in the right place”
Reviewed October 24, 2011

Good apartment hotel located on Sherbrooke near the student ghetto, downtown and le plateau. Had a two bedroom suite on the fourth floor ($219/night), with kitchen, sitting room (sofa bed), and dining alcove. Furniture etc. are cheap but beds are fine. Would recommend getting rooms on higher floors as this is a lively (i.e. noisy) area into the early hours. Pool, saunas are fine, fitness equipment limited. Free breakfast isnt worth the trouble. There's a supermarket two blocks up. Good family and group option (hockey fans seem regulars). Nothing to write home about but a solid option for apartment stays. Owned by the same company as Square Phillips which has a bit more class but lacks the affordable two bed apartment option.

Room Tip: High floor on the North Side.

Took advantage of the Fall Sweet deal for a 2 bedroom. Beds are very firm. Having a kitchenette and separate living room with a pull out couch was great. We asked for a room at the back of the hotel on the second floor (away from the elevator) because we brought the dog. Unfortunately, they could only give us a smoking room. The dining room chairs and the carpet were badly stained in many, many places. However, the reception did allow us to choose another room available on a higher floor, if we wished. They told us that the carpets were going to be changed next month. The staff members were very nice. The cleaning staff will come everyday if you hang the sign on the door for service. The breakfast is adequate. The location is bordering on the McGill University student "ghetto" which is very safe. No dog park around (unless we wanted to walk to the corner of Dr. Penfield & McGregor which was quite a ways especially in the rainy, cold weather we were having). So we walked the dog on the McGill grounds. Having free internet connection is a huge bonus and if you don't bring your laptop, there is a computer in the dining room. Parking is expensive ($19.50 CDN per day), but par for the course since you are downtown. The inside parking spots are very tight. I would recommend this apt/hotel.

Room Tip: Don't be shy to ask to see another room if you are not initially satisfied when you walk into th...

We would like to thank you for taking the time of writing this review about our property, it seems like a cliché but we really mean it. It is comments like this that help us better ourselves and I would like to take this opportunity to confirm what our Front Office Staff told you; we will be replacing all carpeting in our studios & suites before spring 2012. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you again during your next visit to Montreal.

The hotel is really like a apartment house. The one bed room apartment we had was large even by city apartment standards, and was nicely furnished. The staff was exceptionally helpful. The locatiou next to McGill means that you are right in the middle of everything: shopping on St. Catherine, restaurants on Peel, and museums on Sherbrooke.

We were in a 2 bedroom suite -- travelling with friends .. it was well equipped and we had a good view .. 14th floor ... the hotel has all that you could want -- swimming pool, roof top patio and a balcony off the room ... it is located right next to McGill university ..and a couple of blocks from a decent grocery store .. the free continental breakfast is a real bonus .. location is very good -- we walked to "old" Montreal, along the waterfront and locks and had poutine in the area .. suggest taking a taxi up to the top of Mount Royal then walking around and down then over for lunch at the famous Schwartz deli (go early 11:30am - to avoid long lineups) .. now for the other part of the story -- Location of the hotel is in the middle of Montreal so its very noisy with windows open -- there was also pile driving going on somewhere nearby that started at 7:00am --very noisy .. Also, this hotel may not be available for long as we heard that McGill university had bought it and was turning it into residences for students quite soon .. All in all we enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it ...

We would like to thank you for your very nice comments about Montreal and our hotel, and for taking the time of writing this review about our property. I would also like to take this opportunity to reassure you about L’Appartement Hôtel, we enjoyed operating it since 1986 and do not have any intention of selling it. The property that you might be referring to is across the street from our hotel; it used to be part of international chain and is now being transformed into a student residence. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back and don’t worry you can still recommend us, we plan to be here for a long time.

My husband and I were so glad for so much great info. from the reviews on this site when we were planning the most important mini vacation that we've had in many years to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. We stayed 3 nights and it felt like a real home away from home.

Many reviews we'd read were full of accurate and useful information (we took our sedan rather than our crossover vehicle in order to fit into the parking garage and were glad we did.

Our own experiences were never disappointing at L'Appartement from the moment we pulled up to the welcoming attractive front. We were looking for comfort, value and a bit of romance. Here was a place where we could feel that we were spoiling ourselves without the guilt of overspending on needless extras. No valet parking, no bell hop to carry our baggage to both demand tips; $$ that we so carefully budgeted for our get away.

The cozy lobby had a touch of class feel to it, but if you're looking for up to the moment, trendy stylish glam, it might not be your best bet. If you're looking for comfortable, clean, style with friendly service, this is your place. Tired it is most certainly not.

Our first impression was only enhanced by arriving at our room that had been upgraded to a suite from the studio that we had paid for. What a lovely surprise and we scored a balcony along with the extra space on the 14th floor with a nice view and windows that open for lovely fall fresh air. Although previous posters have commented that the bathroom fan didn't work (which is true) I was impressed with its cleanliness and I'm pretty picky when it comes to hotel bathrooms.

I'm a little claustrophobic so initially it took a bit of getting used to being in the kitchenette and bathroom that were both pretty tiny, but "small" price to pay for such conveniences. It is rare to find both a continental breakfast and wireless internet at no extra charge.

The staff were always friendly, helpful and inconspicuous. As we were a little into each other on a romantic getaway, the staff were there when we needed any thing but never really obvious which was nice.

The location was simply perfect and we walked absolutely everywhere we needed to go. Close to Mont Royal, the Plateau, Old Montreal, Crescent Street, St.Catherine's. I can't imagine a better location.

Only one tiny issue which was totally out of control of the hotel management, had to do with outside, really loud, construction noises beginning at 7:30am. Not something that a week end guest would experience, but a fan in the bedroom or nearby bathroom may have helped to drown out the noise.

The cherry on top of the wonderful treat, was the roof top patio and pool. On my first morning, it felt like such decadence to work out on the bike, do a few laps and relax on the patio which was so tastefully decorated with lovely, colourful planters.

All that said, upon paying our bill, the best surprise was no surprise. All too often the prices quoted differ so much from the end charges, but the bill was exactly as it should have been.

We agree that any time we return to Montreal as a couple or as a family, we will most certainly not be staying any where but L'Appartement.

Thank you for a lovely and memorable time.

My husband and I stayed at the HotelAppartement from August 31 tthrough September 17, 2011. It was our third trip in Montreal but the first time to reserve at your hotel. We were pleasantly surprised to find such a good quality/price hotel in a perfect location, a professional and friendly staff, and a clean hotel (with the exception of the carpet and kitchen floor covering). We would recommend it spontaneously to anyone.

Room Tip: The higher floors could have some advantages; we were pleased with the 12th floor giving north
