“great place to stay for the F-1 race!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 10, 2013

My husband and I stayed at Ruby Foos for the F-1 race weekend, and plan on returning to this hotel next year! The hotel is very easy to get to from the highway, parking is free and plentiful in a gated lot. The metro station is a very easy 5 minute walk and then a 30+ minute subway to get to the track and other points of interest downtown. We were very happy to enjoy all the fun of the weekend all day, then retreat to a calmer (and cheaper) part of the city There are many restaurant options available, in both walking and short driving distance, in addition to the hotel . (we chose to eat at the hotel, the wood fired pizza is wonderful....about $17 for an artisan pizza that was enough for both of us). There are many stores around, including a Wal-Mart, which we appreciated when we needed to buy a few race day items that we forgot to buy before we left. There are many fast breakfast options available; Tim Horton, McDonalds, Burger King, etc., but we chose a diner-type joint. For about $7 p/p we had a bottomless cup of coffee and full breakfast that was a bit under seasoned but filled us up for the day (about a block from the hotel, on the way to the metro station). The rooms were very spacious and clean, the bed comfortable and soft with an abundance of pillows. The bathroom was also spacious with ample counter space and excellent water pressure. I appreciate little things the hotel provided like shower caps and body lotion, which many hotels do not anymore. Overall The proximity of the hotel to the metro, reasonable price, clean rooms and convenience to shopping make this an excellent choice visiting Montreal.

I stay at Ruby Foos every time I am in Montreal. It is clean, affordable, a block from the Metro, free parking, and adjacent to the Decarie Expressway for quick access to downtown, the Laurentaens and all major highways. The rooms are spacious and far cheaper than anything downtown, yet on the Metro you are only 15 minutes from all downtown restaurants. Quiet, friendly and helpful staff and very affordable.

I stayed for my nieces wedding memorial day weekend. We were leaving after a satisfying stay. On our departure we asked for direction to the airport. I showed the front desk clerk our gps and she accidentally confirmed the wrong airport. We missed our flight as a result. I re booked but needed another night in hotel. The hotel in my view was responsible. We called and the rooms manager was very nice offered us room for the night. We already booked.ourselves in airport hotel. The rooms manager comped us for the night we already spent with his apologies........we take some responsibility he did as well and to me that was above and beyond. Thank you ruby foos you took a good stay and made it outstanding with top notch service!

We had to make an emergency trip to Montreal and it was a last minute. We heard good things about Hotel Ruby Foo’s. The room was clean, modern and comfortable. The gym needed some work done – some equipment was missing pieces and didn’t look to safe. The staffs were helpful. They knew how to speak English along with French. I was nervous that they won’t know how to speak English only French. I didn’t eat there so I won’t know how their food tasted like. Overall, it was okay stay.

Ruby Foo's is conveniently located for visits with friends and family in Cote St. Luc and Hampstead. It is clean, the service is friendly and helpful and there are very good restaurants right across the street. And, of course, nothing beats the french fries and grilled cheese at Orange Julep, just steps outside the front door! If you are in town for a wedding or other family function, the Evita Salon, right next door, is perfect for getting you ready for the event.

As we were in Montreal to visit family, our options for hotels were limited: Ruby Foo's was pretty much it. We asked for a crib for the room, and the one they brought us was a rickety old death trap. The screws were loose and the wall/slats were shaky; we literally had to ask the concierge (at 1 am when we arrived) to find a screwdriver to tighten the bolts on the crib, and then we prayed all night that our son wouldn't fall out (and promptly retrieved our pack n' play from the car the next day). Frankly, that crib is a liability, and I'm horrified that any hotel would allow a guest to use it.

I wish I could say that the crib was an anomaly, but basically that was like the rest of the hotel: just run down. Housekeeping was poor; the number of small hairs left in the tub and bathroom floor made me think that the previous guest was a sasquatch. The bell desk was ineffectual at best: there were never bellmen to be found, so we ended up getting the cart ourselves both at check in and check out. At check out, no one batted an eye as I (a small-statured woman) fought with a giant luggage cart as it careened off a ramp and into the driveway. The hotel staff at the front door just stared.

The pros of the hotel is that the check-in staff was nice, the location is great for the Hampstead area (and next to a La Belle Province for junk food lovers), and the Japanese-style screens they had on the windows made the rooms nice and dark for sleeping. If we could avoid staying there again, though, we will.

Dear Guest,

We thank you for your comments. The most important part of your review addressed the safety of our cribs. We immediately inspected all the cribs and playpens we have in our inventory. This allowed us to evaluate what equipment needed to be replaced and we proceeded to order 10 new cribs which we have already received.

Regarding the housekeeping and bellman services, we have communicated your comments to our General Manager & Vice President, our Head Housekeeper and our Front Office Manager. This allowed them to investigate and to take the necessary action.

Sincerely,
The Management Team

We needed a place to stay in an area of Montreal that we wouldn't normally go to, and we used Ruby Foos as our base. It turned out to be perfect. It's pretty, the room was lovely, it was close to our family, and it is right on the Metro subway line. So during the time when were wanted to be tourists, we were able to get right downtown without taking our car. We walked around that area and then down into Old Montreal, and when we were ready, we hopped the Metro and were back in what felt like minutes. It made for a very convenient and comfortable way to spend the day. (FYI, we each purchased a return Metro ticket for $5.50.)
