“Very much still under construction”
Reviewed April 27, 2012

Despite the motel's web site, they are still very much under construction. There were few parking spaces and I was even blocked in one morning (although the construction guys were great and helped me get out while shaking their heads that someone would block me in like this person did.) I was on the backside of the motel - quite a walk (3 exterior doors) so there was no noise but they were still tearing up the parking area and it appeared most of the rooms at the front were not ready for occupation. The reception area was simply a hole in the wall with two people in it. Nice, people though.
The room was fine - I was "upgraded" which meant I had a desk and a couch. The desk was nice, I never used the couch, and there was no bureau to unpack into. The room appeared to have been redone recently - new paint, furnishings, tile, countertops etc. Nothing on the walls yet, but oddly, the bathroom ceiling was still stained and yukky.
The walls and floors must be really thin - I was woken up two nights by someone above me doing nothing but walking back and forth - sounded like he was pacing, but I don't think he was really. Another morning I was woken by a child screaming down the hallway outside my room - the parents were trying to shush the child but I'd noticed him or her the evening before as he screamed down the hallway to their room.
No "amenities" such as continental breakfast. Not even the usual book in the room describing the rules, the places nearby to eat, nothing. Maid service was terrific though - ask for more coffee, you get it!
I would not recommend this motel until construction is really complete unless you get it half off - I paid over $100.00/night with all taxes included. It was much further from everything than advertised - unless you are a crow.

Room Tip: It will never be a luxury hotel - it is what it is, but should not be charging full price until the...

Very Excellent hotel. It made our day in Montreal after a chaotic night in a previous hotel. It ll be a great reference for us in Canada. Famille Darius!

Stayed at the Montreal Howard Johnson twice enroute for a week long trip to and from Mt.Tremblant. The location was the only real appeal, as It suited our needs for that area. It is a Motel, and is under renovation which seems to be a long "work in progress". The rooms were basic, the bathrooms were small but clean and new. The rooms lacked anything above the minimum furnishings or amenities. Reception was very polite and helpful. The breakfast provided was very basic, but the friendly hostess said they were soon adding more items. Booked both times on line and got a better price than at the door. For the price, it was an OK place to stay, but basic.

Room Tip: ask for one of the larger rooms on the second floor.

It was advertised as a hotel but really is a motel. Located right next to a major highway. Advertised as having free internet but did not get a signal strong enough to connect. They did however have a computer in the reception area available for guest use at no cost. Their free breakfast consists of 2 kinds of plain cereal and croussaints. Overall, not a disaster considering the cost and not too far from attractions if you have a car.

It looked like a motel outside but really gave us a surprise when we got into the room. It is so spacious, btight and new. It is much better than Grand Hotel Time which boasted 4 star we stayed in Quebec City three days later.

We especially give the applaud to the hostess of the complimentary breakfast service. She is such a nice lady and offered us such good services for three days we stayed there. The breakfast was so good!

Booked a twin bed room on the second floor. Was clean but could have been cleaner, the bathroom was well-stocked but kinda small, almost mistake it for a large closet before seeing the bathtub and toilet. Service was fine, the receptionist spoke both english and french and seemed friendly enough. Had some problems with the door on the lock but otherwise problems were pretty much non-existent. Expected of a two-star hotel off the side of a highway. If you are short on time or cash I would recommend this to you.

I hate negative energy, and it pains me to write a bad review, but we had an unpleasant experience at the Howard Johnson. When we arrived the bathroom had an old soap bar from a previous guest, many small bugs, and the mirror over the bed just added to the ambiance of something from a David Lynch movie. Towel had previous blood stains on it--ick. Our room smelled of such strong cleaning solvents and pesticides that we awoke with a sore throat and headache. We had a crazy man next door, and with the paper thin walls, we could hear him slamming doors, talking to himself, and picking fights with people in the parking lot. Our upstairs guests had a party as well so we could hear the radio upstairs, the TV next door, and cars in the parking lot. We thought maybe because it was Friday night, so we gave the HJ another try on Saturday, too. The hotel desk clerk was very nice and helpful calling us cabs and I suppose none of this is her fault or anyone else's . . . just be careful if you stay here, I guess you get what you pay for. One nice thing about the hotel are the lovely flower baskets hanging outside and the nice man who tends them, "creating life," as he says.
