“Intimate restaurant, well-executed experience”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

We visited this restaurant in search of a romantic dinner to cap off our weekend trip to Montreal. It was a pricey meal, but in such a small venue it feel like a private dining experience. The dishes were delicious and intricately plated by a chef who clearly is very invested in his restaurant. Service was pleasant and personable!

“Excellent experience”
Reviewed October 13, 2013

Although we generally are not fans of fusion restaurants, this restaurant proved us wrong. While some complain about the small size of the restaurant, we loved the unsuspecting facade and cozy interior. The decor is Japanese minimalism which is very appealing and elegant. The service was above and beyond, truly excellent. And the food....wow! We love fine dining and have been pretty much everywhere. This restaurant, for us, was a gem. We will certainly be returning.

“Wonderful meal in an intimate setting”
Reviewed October 12, 2013

Unsuccessful in our attempt to find Toroli on our first night in Montreal, we were so happy that we found it the night after. It's a very small (16 seats) and unpretentious place, easy to miss because of the fact that there is no huge sign in the front, and the exterior is painted black and white like a cow.

Although somewhat pricey ($68.00 per person for six courses), we found it to be worthwhile. The portions were of a moderate size, but everything was delicious.

It's run by the two owners, who were very personable. The husband cooks; the wife serves the food. Upon serving each course, the wife would spend a few minutes with us telling us about their life and their restaurant. We really enjoyed this personal touch, which was in sharp contrast with the stiff formality of Europa, where we dined the following night.

Apparently, they only make enough for 16 people each night, for despite the fact that there were empty tables, two groups of people were turned away. Rather than over booking, this allowed them to spend the time necessary to totally focus on the patrons who were present.

We ordered the six course meal, and were very pleased with everything. The six courses included sake, salad, soup, an appetizer, entree, and dessert. The miso soup was very tasty, as was the foie gras; we tried the sesame ice cream for dessert, which unlike most ice creams that we have had in the past, was not super sweet, but just right.

Everything was impeccably prepared with a nice presentation.

A very enjoyable experience in an intimate setting.

“Rarely had such a horrible experience.”
Reviewed October 3, 2013 via mobile

I have rarely had such a negative dinning experience in montreal.right after the complications I had with making the reservation by phone I felt something was off. Restaurant is small, white, bland. The staff wasnt very welcoming but it was expected after my phone call. Overall dinnin experience was just Ok, although the price is very steep 30+$ for main plates with nothing new or mindblowing flavors to offer. The real problem came when my gfs piece of meat came well done when asked rare and I found a hair in my main plate. This was told to the waiter and nothing was offered in return, not even to exchange the plates!! The table next to us arrived at 7:18pm for their 7pm reservation and they were told they could not eat at the establishment and were to leave even though the 5 tables in the restaurant were not even full! Ridiculous. Overall, there are sooo many great restaurants in Montreal, places like this have no reason for its existence. Please save yourself 200$ for 2 and go to an establishment that will be happy to see you and proud of their food.

“A great experience”
Reviewed September 25, 2013 via mobile

We made a reservation here based on all the great reviews here and on other sites. It's in a neat little hip area very close to the Mount Royal metro stop. The only negative was actually trying to find it. The first time we walked down the side street it's on we walked right past it as there is no signage other than the menu in the window. In addition the building is painted black an white like the side of a cow. Not something you would expect for a French/Japanese Fusion place. Hopefully they'll change this as U think street traffic walk right by not knowing what type of place it is.

Once you walk in its a quaint little place that reminds me of restaurants in the little nooks and crannies of Tokyo. It has room for maybe 16 guests. The server and the chef are very friendly and added to our experience.

I won't dive in to each item we ate but every course was excellent. If we ever go back to Montreal this will be the first place we make a reservation.
