Owner description: Called the Sailors' Church because of the wooden ship models that hang from its ceiling, this church was originally designed by Marguerite Bougeoys, one of Montreal's first teachers. Next to the Chapel, the Marguerite Bourgeoys Museum ($) presents fascinating stories/accounts and significant objects to showcase the life and work of Marguerite Bourgeoys, Montréal's first teacher. Visitors can explore the 18th-century stone crypt and climb the tower to admire a stunning view of the St. Lawrence, Old Montréal and downtown. The archaeological site, opened in 1998, has witnessed more than 2,400 years of history. In addition to its permanent exhibition spaces, the Museum offers a variety of temporary exhibitions and cultural activities, along with school programs.

“A Good balance between being a tourist hot spot and a people's Church”
Reviewed July 15, 2013

The Chapel, in our eyes, would be of equal value for visiting as compared to the other Notre Dame Cathedral in the area ! In addition, we were of the idea that this would be more of our people's Church. We loved so much about how we felt being inside for half an hour. You would definitely prefer to visit here other than that if you just have half day in Montreal (including meal time).

A must see! This is one of the first churches built in Montreal! It has much history with the Grey Nuns!

“Beautiful Chapel”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

Amazing chapel with large bronze alter. Notre Dame is a beautiful church and the smaller chapel is worth the visit.

“Beautiful!”
Reviewed July 6, 2013

One of the most beautiful cathedrals I have visited. It is a must see in Montreal. The contrast with the more modern chapel should not be missed.

“Awesome!”

Despite all the beautiful photos, you really have to visit this place to truly enjoy the splendor and history encompassed within the cathedral. A must see when visiting Montreal.
