You can walk, ride a bike, run, or drive to get to the top for great views of the city from the chateau. There are numerous walking trails scattered all over the mountain, some paved, others not. There are lots of picnic options and on Sundays drum circles provide relaxing entertainment. Bring your dembi and join in.

My daughter lives in Montreal and walks up this mountain every day. I was here visiting and attending a conference and walked with her - the mountain is packed with runners, walkers and cyclists so its a very safe place to walk through beautiful surroundings. You take a short cut up some steps but they are steep and if you are not fit you will need a rest every now and then. An easier but longer walk is on the road - no cars though. The view at the top is stunning. Well worth the walk up and down.

Mont Royal is definitely worth the climb from Peel Street up to the Chalet. Besides being great exercise, the views of the city below are excellent and the surroundings around the chalet are absolutely wonderful. Montreal is a special city and you get to experience just how awesome it is when you do this climb.

It is a tiring walk up the mountain, but there are smooth paths and stairs (although steep). However, once you get to the top and see the spectacular view of Montreal, you will definitely feel it was worth the effort.

The area was very well maintained, very clean and had a selection of well paved roads to the top for biking or walking or steeper tracks or stairs if you were in a hurry. We missed toilets/restrooms on our walk to the top. A restaurant or café would also been great. Remember to bring food and beverages.
