“Highly Recommend La Conciergerie”
Reviewed June 13, 2007

Some friends and I stayed in a very nice room with 2 queen-sized beds. The room was very clean and spacious. We were provided with a filling breakfast each day -- croissants, muffins, cereal, fruit, yogurt, bagels, orange juice, cranberry juice, and lots of other foods to choose from. We relaxed in the hot tub in the afternoons. There was also a nice gym room, although we didn't take advantage of that -- after all, we were on vacation! :-) The B&B is located a few streets over from Ste. Catherine -- the heart of the Gay Village. A very easy walk. Many thanks to Michael and Luc for making our stay in Montreal so pleasant! I'll definitely be staying at their B&B again the next time I'm in Montreal.

  • Liked — Easy access to the Gay Village, and great prices!
  • Disliked — Shared a common bathroom with other occupants of rooms on our floor.

I stayed at La Conciergerie with some friends for Sugarbear Weekend in Montreal, it was my first trip to the city since I was quite young. The room we shared was spacious and nicely decorated and the beds were quite comfortable. Breakfast was always available and tasty in the mornings, and the hot tub was one of the amenities I enjoyed the most.

I used a shared washroom which was OK and never had a problem having access to it; there were some suites with their own private baths.

It is not that far of a walk to the Gay Village and it was actually nice to have a place to retreat to after spending the day there

Michael and Luc took good care of us and Jonathan was quite helpful as well. Would definitely be back.

We found this gay B&B on line and we immediately booked as its a quick walk to the bars/rest and steam rooms. I went with a friend we both had really nice rooms. The place was very very clean. The owner and help were sooooo very nice and helpful. Breakfast in the morning downstairs was a way to meet everyone staying there and to learn where to eat, party etc. If your staying a week or more get a rail pass for 3-4 days, the metro is very clean and easy to use. We went to the botantical gardens and other neighborhoods to eat. We walked everywhere and enjoyed the old city. You can bike and we met several guys who drove up from NY State and other areas. We couldn't say enough nice things about the staff, building and our vacation. Don't miss the Cathedral of Notre Damn and all the other churchs.

  • Liked — The staff was excellent and very friendly, breakfast was great too
  • Disliked — Can't think of anything we didn't like
  • Tips/Secrets — Get a few day rail pass and use the metro to explore other areas of Montreal

La Conciergerie was my first gay B&B in Montreal and I loved it. I stayed in the suite on the second floor on the front and enjoyed it very much. The room was comfortable with a nice sitting room and private bath. Everything was very well maintained.

Breakfast was served each morning in the dining room/kitchen on the ground floor and it was just delish. The ground floor also houses the back garden, gym and hot tub which I enjoyed greatly. The other guests were friendly and everyone had fun sharing stories, educating newbies and enjoying eachother's company.

The location is okay but it is about a 5 minute walk to the gay villiage and stumbing home drunk is a bit of a hassle and a safety risk depending on how much partying you did that night. If you don't mind the walk and actually enjoy staying a bit off the track on a quiet street just down the hill, then this is the place for you. I loved it, you will too.

  • Liked — Friendly guests, nice gym/hot tub
  • Disliked — Location/distance from the gay bars
  • Tips/Secrets — Be friendly and talk to people and they will talk back. Gay Guesthouses are great for single travelers wanting to meet people.

My partner & I stayed here for a long weekend. It's in a beautiful building that is obviously well-maintained. It's conveniently located between the Village and Vieux Montreal - a 5 minute walk from either. We had absolutely no problem stumbling home in the wee hours, so don't be concerned by the other comment implying that it's far from the village - it's actually nice to be a bit removed from the traffic and party noise. Our room was quiet, even with the window open.

The hosts were very accommodating - letting us check in at 8AM (we came in from a red-eye flight), serving breakfast til noon, and arranging a nice taxi to the airport.

The room was adequate - clean with simple furnishings. There was an armoire for storing clothes. No TV or phone in our room, but we didn't miss that. Nice big window opening onto courtyard. Light on amenities (no shampoo, robes, slippers, chocolates on the pillows...).

The common areas were nicely furnished and comfortable. PC with internet access (mid-speed) available in the living room.

Breakfast area was a nice sunroom downstairs. Breakfast fare was good - hot croissants & muffins, cereals, fresh fruit, coffee, & juice. Hot-tub was OK - in a small, windowless downstairs room, but like the rest of the inn, clean and maintained. It was quite comfy for 2, cozy for 4. Plenty of extra towels were conveniently provided next to the tub.

In summary, not an "oh my god most wonderful place ever", but a good value for the money. I'd stay there again.

La Conciergerie was host b&b for the Sugar Bear Weekend on March 25 to March 27. I travelled with a friend and we shared a double room. The b&b is in a very classic 19th century building and the owners have restored or maintained its charm in most of the b&b.

The accommodations are not "plush" compared to high-priced hotels or inns, but it is pleasant, clean and comfortable. In our room, there was not alot of storage for clothes, so we two active people were living out of suitcases for the 3 full days we were there. The beds were comfortable and the linens suitable. Lots of extra pillows were in the closet for those who like that Little amenities were lacking and perhaps that should be attributed to the moderate cost of the room, but it is nice to have a wash cloth for the bathroom and some shampoo available.

With one bath for 3 rooms on our floor, some waiting was necessary although baths on the lower floors were split so the toilet and shower/vanity were in small separate rooms. Some things in the baths were "rough", with some unfinished details here or there.

A number of the rooms we saw throughout the b&b are quite nice, and a couple of them have direct access to the deck on the main floor. Generally the rooms are very pleasant and have personality. People who are senstive to noise should be aware that, as in many old houses, noise carries through the halls. I was never disturbed by noise as most guests are considerate of others, but you would be able to hear people moving about.

The owners and staff were friendly (and easy on the eyes) though they were not outgoing (to be fair, the guy who checked us in and was around most days was quite friendly). For American tourists like us, it is also nice that English is spoken and welcome there. It helped make us a little more comfortable in a city where my highschool French isn't always useful.

Breakfasts always included fresh croissants and muffins as well as fresh orange juice, cereals, yogurt and coffee. The smell of the bakedgoods in the morning always motivated me to get up a little earlier.

The public rooms were very nice. The front "parlor" is nice but seating is limited to 6 or 7 people who might want to sit around on a cold evening and compare restaurant notes. The breakfast room is bright and comfortable and does provide ample seating for a small inn.

The hot tub is a very small 4-man model situated in a low dark room off the public kitchen area. It isn't really romantic although a number of guests used it, as did we. We were disappointed that the jets weren't working properly so the soak wasn't as relaxing as a good jacuzzi massage.

The location is a few blocks to St Catherines mainstream Village activity, but it is also convenient to the old city and Chinatown. I found the central location to be an advantage even if it was a good hike to Le Stud.

Overall, I think this is a good place to stay in Montreal near the Village. I wouldn't hesitate to return as the opportunity arises.

This is a nice property several blocks from the Village. Be prepared to walk! It's primary clientel is gay men. Our room was very nice...high ceilings, nicely appointed, a big window. Liked it very much. The bathroom was ok, nothing special. They could have provided more shelf space. (Two gay men do require a certain amount of space for toiletries!) The breakfast room on the bottom floor was very nice - open airy and a beautiful view of the gardens of several other homes. One major complaint - they advertise a jacuzzi, but it's really a two person bathtub with jets. It's about foot and half deep. So be prepared for that. Otherwise we had a terrific time. The staff was nice, a little distant (which was unusual for this type of place). However, if you asked for help or advice, they were perfectly pleasant and provided the information. I'd trully rate this place as 3 and 1/2 stars - not quiet 4 stars but above 3 stars.
