“Bit of a tourist trap.”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

Beautiful buildings, but a tourist trap. Lots of cheesey stores with endless dumb t shirt shops. There are some nice art galleries, but the works are very pricey. Many restaurants, but some are pretty bad.

“Charming old part of Montreal”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

Our hotel was in old Montreal so we were lucky to have such charm on our doorstep. We braved the freezing temperatures and walked around this lovely area - beautiful old buildings, cobble stone streets, quaint shops and cafes. The snow and bare trees actually added to its beauty (it just hurt to walk, it was so cold). And everywhere you looked, lovely Christmas decorations in the windows, on the trees, on public buildings.

Yes, it is the touristy part of town but it was winter and pretty quiet when we were there.

The city hall looked great in the new snow. Charles de Gaulle gave his famous speech from the balcony of this building in 1967. The roof is now red but I think was once green, or was that just patina on copper? Perhaps other reviewers know the answer.

“A European flair”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

Wear comfortable shoes, have your camera ready, take your time and absorb the culture and experience. There are the usual tourist trap shops, but aside from that some lovely places to sit, sip and enjoy the scenery.

Many charming restaurants and historic sites amidst the metropolitan area. There is a restaurant for every taste and motif preference. Even in the winter, it's worth visiting.

My favorite stop in Montreal, it keeps getting better each time I visit. Make sure to eat at Olive + Gourmando as well as the Le Gros Jambon...yummm!
