“Fantastic!”
Reviewed September 22, 2013

We spent a"romantic"night given to us for my birthday.
What a phenomenal experience.
This is a special..we had a glass of Champagne and chocolate covered strawberries after checking as we were going to the musee de Beaux Arts....then we used the Magical toilet!
OMG what an experience!
As other reviewers have said can't believe I would love a toilet..you have to try it folks!
We had dinner at a wonderful Fr Restaurant..Chez La Mere Michel.
On return there was a chocolate mousse cake with a Happy Birthday in marzipan...
We were reading our newspapers in the am and included in our plan was breakfast...Wonderful..we ordered from the menu ..it was brought on a linen covered table with matching serviettes and it was divine.
Included was late checkout at 3 pm.
The staff...every one was incredibly polite, friendly and helpful.I can't remember names but Fanny at reception,Eric were two I do remember.
What a great birthday gift. Thanks to our daughter!

Room Tip: I am sure they are all great.we were in 418,

We loved this hotel. Service, rooms, location, food and TOILETS great! That toilet is fantastic. Didn't think I could be in love with a toilet, but I am. Anyway, the restaurant run by Daniel Boulard is also wonderful - and probably one of the best in town. We enjoyed eating around the beautiful bar. Everyone was so friendly. A big thumbs up for this hotel. Now management, don't go raising the rates on us...

Room Tip: I think they're all good

The 200 million dollar renovation has definitely paid off. My husband and I travel extensively and this is by far the best room we've have in Canada. We stayed in room 916 and it was extremely quiet, we never heard anything from other rooms or outside. The bathroom was large and we loved the toilet, just like the ones at Aria in Las Vegas, nice to sit down on a warm seat and never having to touch the lid to lift it or touch a handle to flush is very sanitary. The soaker tub is extremely deep and the separate shower has room for two. The bed was super comfortable and my husband said that the pillows were the best of any hotel we have ever stayed at, and we stay at a lot of high end hotels. The closet was the size of most bathrooms and had more storage than anyone could ever need. We ate 3 times at the restaurant and enjoyed the service and meals. The chef definitely knows how to combine flavours in the dishes. My husband wants to plan his next visit already. Well done Ritz-Carlton Montreal.

stayed here for a couple of nights over the labour day weekend.

the renovation is very nice. the rooms are first class. the service was lacking.

the room was not ready when we arrived at approximately 4 pm. More concerning, and really unforgivable, was that our room was not made up the following day at all. housekeeping arrived at 4:30 to clean our room, and it was not a convenient time for us. I have never seen a 5 star hotel not have any housekeeping until that late in the day. very surprising.

i have stayed at many hotel in montreal. The Ritz was very nice, but I don't think the Ritz merits the premium price they are seeking.

To celebrate my wife's birthday in late August, we decided to forsake an Atlantic crossing, opting instead for a border crossing that still provides a French city essence. For the special occasion we chose the Ritz-Carlton Montreal. We learned upon check-in that this was the first Ritz-Carlton in the world, a separate brand created by the Ritz hotel management. The hotel emerged from a major refurbishing last year, leaving the old-world elegance infused with modern appointments (including free Wi-Fi throughout the facility). It is truly deserving to be the first Ritz-Carlton.

The staff was as friendly and professional as one would encounter in any world-class hotel. Two special shout-outs are warranted: Eric the bellman, who was very engaging and hospitable and Hilary of guest services, who arranged for a birthday cake to greet us in the room (at no charge) after I had called the week before to inquire about anything they might do for such occasions. Many of the staff seemed to know my wife was celebrating a birthday.

The room accommodations were lovely and comfortable. Ask for a room that looks onto the garden. Facing the street is noisy due to traffic and frequent fire truck sirens. Much has been automated in the room - from the lighting, temperature and window shading, to a motion-sensor toilet seat cover that rises on its own, a self-heating seat and automatic flush. A keypad on the wall next to the toilet also controls various personal hygiene features that I won't get into here, but we considered a bit OTT (over the top). A deep bathtub with subtle lighting and a television on the facing wall could easily turn a relaxing soak into a prune-skinned affair if one were to get engrossed in a program. Under the TV there is additional room for personal belongings, which women who travel with extensive cosmetics kits and accessories will appreciate - as will their partners. The king bed was spacious and somewhat firmer than our liking. However, this is a matter of preference. Housekeepers were friendly and efficient.

The back garden mentioned earlier is fenced-in and nestled behind the Maison Boulud restaurant, operated by the famed chef. An outdoor covered patio with tables and chairs for breakfast service provides a serene setting to overlook the mini duck pond. Staff service was attentive and polite. Continental breakfast was included in our package - something that seemed rare based on the staff's apparent unfamiliarity with such a plan and the variable billing (even though it was included, we still had to sign and tip). There is a full assortment of breakfast options for those who prefer, but these come at expected luxury hotel prices. We also dined at Maison Boulud for my wife's birthday. Between the ambiance, staff and food, this was indeed a memorable experience.

Lastly, the hotel spa is excellent. A somewhat short and narrow indoor pool was still good for laps, and the locker room with sauna was well-maintained. There is also a outdoor deck with lounge chairs. Overall, we would definitely return to this Rtiz-Carlton on our next visit to Montreal.

Room Tip: Remember to ask for a room facing the garden.

I went here Labor Day Weekend with my boyfriend. It was my first Ritz experience unlike my boyfriend who stays at them all the time for work. It was an amazing hotel. They recently renovated it so everything was new including the japanese toilet, high tech room with touch activated lighting and window shades. The bathroom was huge and had a bathtub separate from the shower with his/her sinks. The bathroom products smelled amazing (Asprey Purple Water) there was even a Room Spray to take home. The closet was huge, the decor of the bedroom was so beautiful with white bedding and the most cushion-y carpeting I've ever walked on. They helped us get reservations to Au Pied de Cochon which was fully booked.

It's located right in Old Montreal, great location because there are tons of shops and restaurants nearby. It's also located right near Mont Royal Park which has a very scenic view over all of Montreal that I suggest you see.

Overall it was a great experience and I want to stay at the Ritz wherever I go! :)

It's a Ritz so, of course, it is phenomenal. However, the toilets alone are worth the trip. Seriously.

Showing up after a long trip and the girl at the front desk smiles and welcomes you by name...without you having mentioned it. Welcome to a Ritz. Perfect location for one of the best hotels in this half of the world.
