Auberge du Vieux-Port
Ranked #9 of 166 Hotels in Montreal

My husband and I stayed at auberge de Vieux-Port for three nights and would not recommend it for several reasons. One of the reasons we chose this hotel was because it advertised wireless Internet. However we were never able to connect to the Internet. Every person we spoke to gave us a different reason ranging from apple products don't work at the hotel, another guest was doing massive downloads, the signal was not string on our room, the hotel walks are too thick etc. In addition to Internet problems there was no safe in our room. They seemed quite surprised when I couldn't find the safe, then the concierge came up and couldn't find it either hmmmm, I wonder where it went. Our TV also didn't work for a day. The wall between our room (103) and the room next door was so thin we were able to hear the couple next doors complete conversation without lite ing. I can tell you they were catching an early plane to Nova Scotia. Having said all that I will tell you our room was beautiful, the location was great and the staff was lively. Thet just were unable to solve problems satisfactorily .

Room Tip: 103 is noisy from street noise and room next door but the room has a beautiful stone wall

My husband and I stayed at the Auberge du Vieux-Port for 3 nights post cruise at the end of September and enjoyed our stay. The room #201, was large with very high ceilings and the bathroom was very nice with great shower head(s). The hotel is right in the center of the old port district with lots of shopping and eating only a few steps away. If we ever make back to Montreal again, we would certainly stay here again. Across the street from the water front and you are able to walk everywhere. Breakfast was good with several choices besides the buffet. The front desk was terrific and helped us several times with tours and getting us a cab very early in the morning. I had no trouble with the wireless internet, so maybe they were having routers troubles at other times.

my wife and stayed at the auberge the week of sept 12 for a couple of nights. we ended up in a 'deluxe' king room on the 3rd floor facing the river. it was not as large / as high a ceiling as other 'king' rooms. we kind of felt let down about this. as it was the room was nice with an awesome bathroom (no jacuzzi...) a nice tiled shower equipped with rain head and jets. otherwise the room seemed cramped. as other reviewers have noted the beds are great with quite comfortable linens. we concur. there is a flat screen tv and windows opening to the street outside, a feature you will never get in a high rise hotel.
we ordered the package with parking and dinner in the bistro attached to the hotel. on check
in we came to find out the bistro is closed with construction and noise everywhere. it might have been helpful to inform guests in advance of this?
the dinner pre ordered had to be rearranged to a restaurant a couple of blocks away. not ideal. the advertised wifi was non existent ... something to do with routers..??
was able to get a very weak signal from the pier across the street. a big inconvenience since we depend on a high speed internet connection for communications voice and e-mail.
a computer was available in the lobby but naturally was in constant use.
breakfast was held in the bistro part that was not under renovation. good and tasty selection with a slightly chaotic service.
the guys working the front door for parking/luggage handling etc were first rate.
the concierge was helpful and professional.
to conclude i would say the auberge could and should live up to a 4 star rating after working
out a few very important kinks.

This was our 2nd time staying at the Auberge du Vieux-Port, which overlooks the water in Old Montreal. Our first trip a year ago was in the biting cold of winter & although we loved the hotel even then, we definitely loved it better this time around in the height of summer, with the lovely horse-drawn carriages & all the bustle & beauty of Old Montreal & its gorgeous cobblestone streets in summertime. This is a small boutique hotel & the bedrooms & bathrooms are consistently beautiful, comfortable, & luxurious. The floor-to-ceiling french doors opening to juliette balconies are so very French, that you actually think you might be in Paris! The staff have been wonderful, cheerful & helpful, every time we've been there. And not only is breakfast included, but every evening they have a wine & cheese type reception (we had a live jazz band last winter too) & you're entitled to a free alcoholic beverage of your choice every night. My husband & I would definitely go back there for all our future trips to Montreal.

Like the most recent reviewers, this is a fantastic hotel. My wife just brought me here to celebrate my 50th birthday, and I can only say great things about the hotel and the entire staff. It's located right on the water in an ideal location right in the heart of Old Montreal. We stayed in room #202, king size bed, great views, 12' high ceiling, well appointed, huge jacuzzi tub, spa like jet shower - everything was wonderful. We stayed for 3 days/2 nights, and had not one complaint. From the time we arrived until the time we left, the service was exceptional. Valet parkng (thanks Frederic) is easy, front desk extremely friendly and helpful (thanks Mylene, Jocely and Renee). A nice breakfast is also included. The hotel also has a wonderful rooftop bar where you can sit and have a coktail overlooking the Old Port, La Ronde and most of the city. You can walk to all the main attractions right from the hotel - Jacques Cartier plaza is literally right next door, Notre Dame cathedral is a 5 minte walk, and you can also walk to literally hundreds of great restaurants and bistros. We talked to some other people who were staying in downtown Montreat and Old Montreal, and for the price you can;t beat it. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone planning a trip to Old Montreal, it is well worht it. we are already planning on returning this winter!

Room Tip: We stayed in room #202, but any room in front of hotel I'm sure is great. Try to book one of th...

Overlooking the water in the old Vieux Port area of Montreal, this is a really nice hotel. It is an older building and our room had lovely high ceilings and tall windows, along with exposed beams and old brick-faced wall. We walked nearly everywhere we wanted to visit. The room was large and well-appointed. Our only complaint was the down comforter was so luxurious and thick we had trouble keeping cool at night. The breakfast in the restaurant was included and adequate, if not really great. A very helpful and friendly staff who are also knowledgeable about the area attractions was another plus.

Room Tip: Front-facing rooms are very light and sunny. In summer, watch out as they can be hard to keep cool...

My boyfriend and i checked in to this hotel, right on the water, initially for two days at the end of August. We loved it so much, we added a third day.
The hotel is gorgeous, well located, had wonderfully attentive staff, and our room, which included a spa like bath, was amazing.
Things i loved, the valet - worked out wonderfully to take on Montreal's old city on foot, with no worries about our car, the room - beautiful w/ a warm down comforter and had a view of the river, but also had doubled paned windows...so quiet and restful...i think our room was 212, the breakfast - buffet and options for crepes, french toast, omelets etc..yum, Hotel Restaurant Narcisse -LOVED the beautiful setting and the food was fresh and fantastic.

Other perks - yes this hotel takes AAA. They upgraded us from a Queen to a King with river view. they dropped a day's cost for valet parking b/c we had difficulty using the drain in our very fancy sink (turns out u press the drain down and it pops up/down to close drain), this hotel throws in a complimentary drink for two at either the upstairs terrace (great view of the city) or the restaurant. I thought it was a great 'buy' for its awesome location, the excellent level of service, and the top quality of this hotel. LOVED our experience.

Room Tip: Stairs - the new section has some stairs; ask to be in the origonal part of the hotel if u need/pref...
