Owner description: Pointe-à-Callière, the birthplace of Montréal and a National Historic Site, offers visitors the opportunity to explore history through an original underground circuit leading through archaeological excavations. At the start of their visit, an immersive multimedia show presents a high-speed view of the city's history, the remains come to life and the count down begins! The museum also offers year-round temporary local and international exhibitions. For Montréal's 375th anniversary in May 2017, Pointe-à-Callière will inaugurate a new pavilion highlighting Fort Ville-Marie.

“Montreal's History”
Reviewed June 25, 2013

Truly an important stop during your visit to Old Montreal as this museum has a great show that explains the history of the city (in many different languages) and then offers a tour through the old ruins that have been excavated. Great museum store and exhibits!

“Have gone three years in a row and plan on going again this year.”
Reviewed June 22, 2013

If you are going to go to one museum in Montreal this is the one to go to. It is the historical nexus of the history of the city. The A/V presentation sets the mood and presents the context of what this one spot represents. The exhibits are well presented and informative. You will literally walk back through the city's history. The traveling exhibits each year have been of the best quality. Looking forward to going again this summer.

“Actual dig”

Several levels of excavation below a historic building. Well laid out. We also enjoyed a special exhibit about the history of tea.

“A condensed learning experience”
Reviewed June 18, 2013

What I love about this museum is its human scale. The temporary exhibit space is small and whatever the subject, I know my visit will last no more than an hour yet teach me so much. It is always worth a visit. The permanent show on the history of Montreal is very light and more suitable to tourists, especially children.

“Pricey but interesting.”
Reviewed June 14, 2013

Guided tour was slow--I opted out and enjoyed it more on my own. Catch the film at the beginning, a bit overdone but an interesting overview.
