Owner description: Pointe-a-Calliere, the birthplace of Montreal and a National Historic Site, offers visitors the opportunity to explore history through an original underground circuit leading through archaeological excavations. At the start of their visit, an immersive multimedia show presents a high-speed view of the city's history, the remains come to life and the count down begins! The museum also offers year-round temporary local and international exhibitions. For Montreal's 375th anniversary in May 2017, Pointe-a-Calliere inaugurated a new pavilion highlighting Fort Ville-Marie.

We spent several hours here on a visit to friends in Montreal, and didn't regret making the time to see it. The displays are nicely integrated into the modern building that has been built over archaeological excavations. I have to agree with another reviewer, though, who complained that the exhibits were confusing. It's difficult to follow a chronological storyline, and several times I found myself wondering where in the heck I was in history and even in the building. Overall, though, it's a well maintained museum with nice interactivity.

We were lucky enough to see the temporary exhibit on Samurais - our 14 and 16 y/o boys were enthralled - actually reading the history outlined on the exhibit! What a collection. The archeology museum itself is facinating and such a unique display on the original site of the original settlement - very good experience!

What a joy this place is! Very neat that a large part of the museum (the history of how Montreal was formed) is underground. Very creative, and the video parts of the exhibits were fun and interactive. I saw the samurai exhibit and the Montreal love stories - both great. Entry fee to museum was $18/person.

We have found this problem in other Canadian museums - rather jumbled displays, with different periods of time a bit mixed up, but above all for this museum, inadequate signage so that you cannot follow the very intersting history of Montreal chronologically. A fantastic building, beautifully restored. Coffee shop would be good (we could have missed it!!) rather than just a formal restaurant. Very helpful staff, who warned us it was like a rabbit warren!

Should be a first stop for any one visiting Montreal. Montrealers should check it out and then show off as savy hosts to visiting friends and family.
New permanent multimedia show by Moment Factory a real jewel that gives you history in a capsule with goosebumps!
