I give this place a 5, but my kids say a 4 because of some of the icky bugs:) The displays are a little mismatched, and not everything is labelled. But their live specimens are very interesting, especially their ant display - very inventive. I loved the beetle collage! There are so many different insects to see, but no individual information is available. My kids really enjoyed looking at all the butterflies/moths that were hanging on the walls. You don't realize how colourful the insect world is until they are all in the same room together. Truly Impressive!

A great place to take the family. Plenty of bugs to see here and keep a family occupied for a few hours after being in the gardens.
Excellent talk on damselflies.

There were lots of bugs to see on the displays but it was a small center. It didn't take very long to go through but younger kids may find it much more interesting than looking at the botanical gardens. I had hoped there was going to be more live insects but there is a cool display for leaf cutter ants and a few live displays. I'll never see those bugs in my life (thank goodness for some of them) so seeing the displays was good. We added it to our tour of the gardens and was a nice air conditioned break.

Spiders, beetles, tigers, oh my. The Insectarium is part of Les Jardins Botanique de Montreal. It has mostly non living insect collections from around the world, and entymologists would find it most interesting. My 8 year old daughter, however, found it gross, albeit edifying. We spent about 45 mins in the insectarium, although one could spend more time in it. Afterwards, one may want to visit the live butterfly garden outside (during the summer months). This is our first time to the Montreal Insectarium and Botanical Gardens, but this year, there was a most excellent Giant Topiary exhibit in the Montreal Botanical Gardens, where one could spend an entire day. Alas, we had only 3 hours to spend, as we had to travel an hour back home to Plattsburgh New York.

The Insectarium is absolutely tiny and can be seen in less than half an hour. There are some interesting insects from around the world, but really there is not enough to justify paying for admission on its own. Admission to the Insectarium is included with the Botanical Gardens, so it might be worth a quick stop if you want a break from flowers. Definitely don't go out of your way, though.
