“3.5 hr tour less than disappointing”
Reviewed September 6, 2013

Very, very ordinary. We chose this tour instead of hop-on-off bus. Only reason it gets 2 balls is the places we visited gave us thoughts for the following day. Very few stops for photographs. The duplication of the commentary in French and English (we are Australians - we speak a version of English) meant that he information provided was shallow and disjointed, including the apparently mandatory pathetic attempts at humour. (Naively we thought we would get more depth of information on this tour.). At over $50 a ticket, it was very poor value. We wish we had taken hop-on-off bus as at least you get a better view upstairs than on a standard tour bus. Will never do such a tour again. Essentially an absolute waste of our money, and I am being polite. We learnt more about Montreal from a 40 minute narrated tour (in English only!) at the archeology museum (Point-a-Calliere) - it was wonderful.

“Double Decker Bus is a great way to see the City”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

We planned a long weekend the 3rd week of August to Montreal. We got lucky staying at the Marriott Chateau Champlain. Their concierge made recommendations for tours and attractions. They booked us on a Gray Line tour. It included a 2 day pass where you can get on and get off at various stops to see things of interest. The first day there was some drizzle but we toughed it out on the top level and was provided rain ponchos to help keep us dry. We took the whole tour before torrential rains came. So on the 2nd day of our visit we took a river cruise and went to a Gray Lines stop near the pier and hopped back on for another full tour of the city in fantastic weather with clear blue skies and did not feel cheated. We got to revisit the highlights and the driver took another route than the day before, so we actually got to see more of the city. The only caveat would be that the person giving the tour on the first day was not too good at their job, but the 2nd day the lady was incredible with pointing out attractions, explaining what you were seeing, the history and the economics of the city and answering questions. My advice would be if you are not pleased with the tour director, get off at a stop and wait for the next bus that comes every 15 minutes and you just might get a better experience.

“Awesome tour - but the guide is 90% of it!”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

This is the tale of 2 tours. We started our tour at 1030 on Aug 31st...Norman was our guide and he was awesome! He kept the commentary light, sat right up top where the action was, told some good jokes, taught us a LOT about Montreal and gave great recommendations when he had them for things to do and places to see.
We did the full tour with Norman and then stayed on the bus so we could get dropped off back in Old Montreal. A new guide came on the bus and she was terrible. Granted, we were only on for the first two stops with her but she hid down below, apparently because it was 'full' up top (not true, at least two seats available). Had no chemistry with the crowd up top (granted I suppose if you sat up top you'd have very little chemistry with the group down below) but there wasn't even any banter between the guide and riders like we had with Norman. We were very glad to be getting off...it was like she was always trying to catch up and remember things as we went along...too bad for the group that started at 1230 because they missed a lot by not having Norman. Thanks!

“Ottawa day tour was a waste of time and money”
Reviewed September 1, 2013

They told us that the pickup at our hotel would be at 7AM - the shuttle didn't arrive until 7:30AM. The driver said it was a mistake in the office. After talking with others on the tour I think it is standard procedure. It set a bad tone for the day. During the ride to Ottawa the driver didn't give us any information. The tour guide joined us in Ottawa when we arrived at about 10:20. She was knowledgeable but we had to dig information from her. When we made our first stop at the Parliament building information center she didn't tell us what time to reconvene or where she would be. It is amazing that she didn't lose anybody there. The entire city tour took about 2 1/2 hours then she dumped us at the market place for 3 hours. The tour stopped at a museum (we didn't have time to view it) that really looked to be interesting. I would have liked to spend a couple of hours there instead of the market place. They should offer that as an option. At 3:45 PM we departed Ottawa for the drive back to Montreal. This is described as a 10-hour tour but it was only guided 2 and 1/2 hours. Ottawa seemed like a good place to tour for a day or 2 but you need to find another way to do it.

“Raphael Swann is the star of Montreal tours!”
Reviewed August 26, 2013

Raphael Swann is the most entertaining guide I have ever had the pleasure to encounter on a tour bus. Rather than the rote delivery of homogenized information that most guides tend to offer, Raphael brings the history of Montreal alive with his erudite knowledge of the city, both historical and present day. His excellent recommendations of activities and local restaurants afforded my companion and I a cultural and gastronomic flight of Montreal that was as pleasing as our bus tour. From both of us on Vancouver Island: "Thank You Raphael, for making our visit to Montreal one of the best trips ever."

Our rating? Four thumbs up!"
