“Outstanding personal service”
Reviewed October 27, 2012

Le Petit Hotel provides outstanding friendly, personal service, among the best I have ever experienced at a hotel. The location is great, the room was comfortable but small. But what made this a great experience for us was how the staff assisted us to find the best places to eat, shop, and tour. I would definitely stay here again and will recommend it to anyone vacationing in Montreal who really wants to see an experience what the city has to offer.

We recently spent three nights here in a mid-sized room. The room wasn't exactly spacious but it had everything we needed, including a mini-bar, a full-blast shower and a comfortable bed. The best part for us were the breakfasts and the hotel staff. No matter what time we made our way down to the lobby every morning, the complimentary breakfast buffet was always well stocked with fruit, croissants, muffins, and cereal, and one specialty coffee per guest was included in the room price. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. They made great restaurant recommendations and helped us navigate the city bus back to the airport. No attitude here - we would definitely stay at Le Petit Hotel again.

Le petit is now ranked the #1 hotel by travelers on Trip advisor - which is the reason we booked it for our stay. The comments are so overwhelmingly positive that I felt if I had known what I am about to tell you, it would have effected my decisions regarding this particular hotel.

We arrived at the Le Petit hotel following a Seabourn Cruise that terminated in Montreal. The hotel is just as it's name indicates - Petite.

I was impressed with the communication and care exhibited by the staff via email prior to our arrival and their friendliness upon arrival. We were assigned suite 207 on the second floor directly above the reception area and with a facing wall of windows directly on the narrow cobblestone street in front of the hotel.

The room was modern with a very comfortable bed, a desk and chair and an easy chair - all of the furnishings were contemporary styled which isn't as comfortable, of course, as large overstuffed chairs to sit in, but artistic looking and functional. The hotel has no bath tubs in their suites only showers - the showers are modern and very comfortable with a large head yielding excellent pressure and volumes of water.

The young manager recommended a restaurant to us that was two blocks down the tiny cobblestoned street (with even tinier sidewalk). they loaned us an umbrella (it was raining) and we had a romantic arm in arm stroll down to the restaurant. I'm always a bit cautious when a hotel recommends a restaurant since many have their favorites are via business arrangements rather than honest opinion. The recommended restaurant was small, intimate and we had the most delicious meal we'd had in a month. Interestingly, the bill for two glasses of wine each exceeded the entire cost of the gourmet dinner plus dessert. The canadian government has decided to TAX all alcohol at an obscene rate rending each glass of wine we had to a cost of roughly $20 US per glass. But by the time the bill arrived we were sufficiently mellowed from the amazing meal and the small amount of wine that it didn't really bother us.

So we had a wonderful dinner and returned to the hotel for the night.

It was a travel day and we were fairly exhausted. We dropped into their very comfortable king sized bed with a big feather duvet and fell soundly asleep by 10 pm. Around 1 am we were awakened by people talking loudly. I thought initially it was from an adjoining suite, but soon discovered the sound was coming from the street in front of the hotel facing our suite windows. It was friday night and apparently Montrealers like to party but don't start until after midnight. From 1am until just prior to 4am it was non-stop, loud boisterous young people walking down the street raising hell in both English and French, some sober, some not.... punctuated by an occasional car horn. It was impossible to sleep.

We checked out the next morning leaving early from our 3 day pre-arranged stay. The hotel is superior in every aspect which they have control over. If we were to book again, we would insist upon a room at the rear of the hotel as far away from the street as possible.

As we left the hotel, their staff was extremely gracious. They apologized and even went so far as to check on the car we'd arranged to the airport for two days hence. They sent me an email AFTER I'd checked out to insure we were aware of that arrangement and to insure that the Hyatt concierge was on top of it.

I would definitely stay here again, just NOT at the front of the hotel.

Room Tip: Stay away from the rooms facing the street.

Dear LenM,

Thank you taking the time to share your comments about your experience. I am sorry you had a noisy stay and would like to offer you my sincere apologies. As hoteliers, our goal is always to provide a comfortable night of sleep.
As you mentioned, street noise is often the downside of a street view overlooking a commercial street such as Saint-Paul. Although we cannot control the street, we have worked with the authorities and local businesses to minimize the impact of noise at night. Quieter rooms towards the back of the building are available in all of our room types and may be requested upon reservation.
Although I am truly sorry about the noise issues you experienced, it was really gratifying to read your amazing comments about the service provided by our team. Friendliness, personalized recommendations and attention to detail are the core of our approach to hospitality and what Le Petit Hotel is all about.
I look forward to the opportunity of welcoming you again on your next visit to our beautiful city. Do not hesitate to contact me personally and I will ensure that we pre-assign a room at the back of the hotel.

Kind regards,

Joëlle Beaulieu

We loved the continental breakfast and espresso. We had a medium room. It was big enough, but not large. Nice bed and bedding. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We will stay there again and might splurge on a larger room.

Very good choice for our quick weekend trip to Montreal. Young people at the front desk were wonderful. Totally helpful with a great attitude. Excellent location in Old Montreal, this hotel is charming and clean with a fabulously comfortable bed. Quiet too. Only complaint was that our bathroom was very small but bathrobe and slippers almost made up for it.

Room Tip: Ask for one with a bigger bathroom.

This is the cutest hotel--EVER. I will forever stay here anytime I visit Montreal. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The Le Petit family really knows how to provide first class service.

The location is perfect. I was able to walk all over. There are some fantastic restaurants just in a one block radius of the hotel.

For my birthday the staff surprised me with a delicious red velvet cupcake and brought us a DVD player and Sex and the City 2 because it was a rainy day. Every morning I was excited about my croissant and coffee.

Trip Advisor was correct about this hotel. Its a beautiful little place worthy of its price. Montreal is a beautiful city with much to do. There are many components that make a hotel either of good service or sub par. This hotel hits all the marks of a good hotel and then goes above and beyond. I would stay here again. Thanks!
