“Excellent location. Friendly Staff.”
Reviewed October 17, 2011

My partner and I recently visited Montreal for a combination of business and pleasure. Le Petit Hotel was a great choice and we found it to be very comfortable and in an excellent location. The best part of the stay was definitely the young, friendly, helpful and unpretentious staff. They were great. If you want a formal concierge in a silly uniform, don't stay here. If however, you enjoy honest opinions and ernest, helpful answers, Le Petit Hotel is a very good choice.

We stayed in a large room at the front of the hotel with lovely french doors that opened up toward the street. The weather was nice so we could open the windows and do a little people watching from our room. It was a lively weekend on the street since it was a holiday weekend (Canadian Thanksgiving), with many nicely dressed young couples and families strolling through the street. We were glad that we had spent a little bit more for the larger room.

If there were any downsides, we were a little surprised at how small the lobby was when we arrived, and there was some street noise during the night - to be expected since it is located in the hub of activity. Neither of these were of much consequence for us, and the positives of our experience outweighed any inconvenience.

Breakfast was included and my partner was crazy about the bread, a multigrain that looked homemade and delicious. I made my daily habit a croissant or two, and some yoghurt with fruit. The staff offered up your choice of a special espresso drink or fresh juice. Plenty of additional coffee in pots for those who require more than one cup of coffee.

Prior to our arrival, the hotel made several restaurant recommendations, including L'Original, a stylish restaurant on a quiet street near the hotel that served a delicious menu that included some unique entrees of venison or pheasant. While we splurged on several nice meals, this was the best one of our trip. Better than L'Espicier, also in the historic district.

We truly enjoyed our stay at this nice boutique hotel in historic Montreal.

Room Tip: Choose a large or bigger room.

We just spent a weekend at Le Petit Hotel - 5 of us in total, 3 rooms - and all absolutely loved it. It's in an ideal location, in the heart of Old Montreal, near the Old Port so you can walk everywhere, including the best restaurants in Montreal. The concierge and staff could not have been more helpful - especially as none of us had ever been to Montreal. The restaurants that they recommended and helped book for us were exactly what we were looking for. The lobby and rooms are modern and beautiful and the hotel offers a great breakfast. No need to book anywhere else...

Room Tip: We booked a medium room and it was bigger than expected - a very good size.

If you are planning a trip to downtown Montreal for business (or pleasure) do yourself a favor and forego the knee-jerk reaction to stay at the Intercontinental or Westin (for those of you who may be attending a metting at the Convention Center) and book your stay at the Le Petit Hotel, just a few blocks walk from the Center. Located on rue St-Paul this htoel has the "old" outside look of a Parisian building but inside one will find an extremely clean and modern facility. The rooms are well-appointed with adequate space and modern bathroom (shower only...but great shower!). The bed may have been the most comfortable one I've ever slept in during my 35+ years of business travel. If location is important, this hotel has it. You are within walking distance of some very fine dining spots, all surrounded by the feel of a Parisian neighborhood. Add in free internet, a Continental breakfast...excellent bread, croissants (would you expect any less?), jam, fresh fruit, yogurt, coffee, juice...do you really need more? All this at a price substantially less than the "big chains."

"I'll be back"...lol.

We just had a very lovely honeymoon stay in Le Petit Hotel. The location was prime - right in Old Montreal, on a cute street with a bunch of restaurants and boutiques. The hotel was a tiny bit hard to find, but only because we were looking for a sign and there wasn't one - just the name of the hotel on the windows. The staff took our car for valet, and kept it for the whole four-day stay. The lobby, cafe and eating-area are small, but stylish and well-decorated. I could easily see someone choosing to sit with a book or a laptop there (although we didn't because we had lots of sights to see!).

The room was very nice. We were on the fourth floor in a "medium" room, which was fairly spacious for two people with lots of closet room, a desk, a comfy chair, two night stands and a king-sized bed. Our window was facing the wall of the adjacent building, so not much of a view, but it meant that we had a very quiet stay with no noise or light problems. The bathroom was a little cramped, but it was no problem for us and the amenities were nice, including the Aveda bath products and the shower with all sorts of strange options. The mini-bar is limited, but reasonably priced. It was a very clean hotel on the whole, and the maid service tidied up the room daily, replaced the towels and set the iHome music player/alarm clock to a soft trance music. The room, even on the fourth floor, had very good (and free!) wifi service.

The continental breakfast was a nice start to the day, and it's sad that more hotels these days don't offer it. The options were limited, but the quality was very good. Plain and chocolate croissants, fresh breads for toasting, cereal, yogurt, fruit and coffee/tea. The staff would also come around and offer to get you orange juice or a fresh latte. Not a stuff-yourself breakfast, but perfect to keep you going until lunchtime.

The service was, in a word, excellent. The staff was always pleasant and prompt with any requests, and personable while also being professional. Check-in and check-out were both fast, as was the valet. The provided us with maps, directions, called us a taxi, and gave excellent restaurant recommendations and made reservations. They remembered who we were and asked us specific questions about how our day had been and whether we liked the restaurants, etc. It was a nice benefit to being in a smallish hotel.

If (when?) I return to Montreal, I will definitely be choosing Le Petit Hotel.

Room Tip: We chose the medium-sized room and it was spacious for two people, much like other average-sized hot...

My husband and I were Honeymooning in Quebec. We loved this small boutique hotel. Great location on a quiet street filled with galleries and boutiques. We entered our large room to find cupcakes awaiting us with a note of congratulations! The room was clean and stylish. I am employed by and usually stay at Four Seasons Hotels. I was very impressed by Le Petit Hotel's personable staff and attention to detail. At one point we noticed we were out of tissues. We called the front desk and they delivered another box in less than 30 seconds. The breakfast included in our stay was delicious; fresh fruit, croissants, yogurt. Great expresso drinks, too! I also appreciate having a thermostat in the room to make myself comfortable. It was a deal for about $200/ night. I would go back in a heart beat. Only a few minor suggestions...The dim fluorescent lighting in the bathroom made applying make-up a bit depressing. A rug in the room would soften and warm the somewhat sterile decor.

We recently stayed at this hotel while we were visiting Montreal. The location is wonderful, in the old part of Montreal and within walking distance of several restaurants and shops. We had an extra-large room, initially because we thought a friend was staying with us but he ended up going to a different hotel. I think he was sorry he did! We had a king sized bed, a futon that folded out to a bed, a small dining table with chairs, and a large wardrobe for our belongings. Our room looked out onto rue St-Paul, and we could open our windows and sit on the windowsill and watch the people go by. The weather was so nice we even slept with our windows open most of the time. We didn't have any problems with noise, but we were there from Sunday to Wednesday, maybe not peak partying hours/days. The continental breakfast was great, your choice of an espresso drink and croissants, pain de chocolat, fruit, other breads, jam, yogurt, etc. The front-desk staff could not have been more helpful -- they gave us a large and detailed map of Montreal and pointed out areas we might want to visit. They gave us a couple of recommendations for dinner that were spot on. When we come back to Montreal, I want to stay here again!

Room Tip: We faced rue St-Paul, which might be noisier on weekends. Good people-watching, though.

A beautiful small hotel with modern design. Very clean rooms and perfect location right in the centre of Old Town. Our first room on the 4th floor was quite spacious, but the AC in this room was terribly loud. When we complained about that, we were given a new room immediately - as it seemed, we were not the first guests realizing that air con problem... Our new room was smaller, but at least with a quiet AC.
Staff ist very helpful and polite, breakfast is ok.
For the size of the (second) room, though, the price was expensive.

Dear MBlaha,

We would like to thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with fellow travelers. Even though it seems that you enjoyed your stay at the hotel, we are extremely sorry that you experienced issues with the air conditioning in your room on the 4th floor. Our guests’ comfort is a top priority of ours which explains why you were given a new room immediately. Unfortunately, it is possible for rooms of the same room type to vary a little bit in size from one to the other. I invite you to contact me personally should you like to discuss it further or make another reservation for a future visit as it would be our pleasure to welcome you again at the hotel.
