One of the best restaurant meals we've had in a while. Innovative, fresh, seasonal cuisine in a fun, unpretentious neighborhood restaurant. My husband and I were visiting Montreal for a long weekend and I put a lot of thought into our dinner reservations. La salle a manger was a triumph. We walked from metro Mont-Royal, enjoying the lively neighborhood. We were a little surprised by how causal the restaurant is -- tile floors, no tablecloths -- but appreciated how lively and friendly everyone was. The food is very serious though. Beautiful presentations, lots of seasonal ingredients and creative combinations. We were really surprised to see three (!) dishes with horse on the menu. Not something that happens much in the States! Avoiding the horse, we ate very well and were charmed by the friendly staff and felt like locals - almost.
