I was wondering what to expect after reading some of the previous reviews but I have no complaints and really enjoyed my stay. I was traveling alone and was not approached by anyone asking for money. The bed was comfy, the room had everything I needed.
The free coffee and muffins in the foyer in the morning are a great gesture - I was only in Montreal 2 days and appreciated being able to fuel myself before venturing out.
The hotel is situated not far from Old Montreal and right next to Chinatown. Montreal is a very walkable city but be prepared for some hills and, of course, the cobbled streets in Old Montreal. Good walking shoes are a must.
Overall I enjoyed my stay and the staff were mostly helpful (just one person who could have offered some better information - she clearly wasn't that interested in helping me but perhaps she was just having an off day).
I would stay there again.

This hotel makes you take a step back when you enter. Walls are painted black with black accents! Staff were so helpful and were able to tell us about good restaurants and different ways to get around Montréal. Rooms were small but spotless. Our room only had a shower but had a kitchenette. If you are looking for something different Hotel Zero is the place to go. The only drawback is this hotel is close to a very busy street and the noise travelled up to the 11th floor. There is also a fire station around the corner and that was noisy at times. (One note about the fire trucks. Drivers in Montréal do NOT move out of the way emergency vehicles!

I had a conference last week at the Hyatt (2 blocks away) and loved staying at the Zero 1 for half the conference rate. The location is great: right by Chinatown, a pleasant walk to downtown shopping or Vieux-Montreal, block and a half to the Metro, and the Airport bus (747) stops right aside. New building with sleek, modern decor with a very comfy bed, free business center with pc/printer. 24-hour mini-market right in the hotel.

My only gripe is that coffee and muffins are served in the lobby only until 9 a.m., which seems a bit early. If you're a coffee fan, be sure to make it down in time, because the coffee is wonderful, much better than what's in the room.

One tip: buy the 24-hour pass rather than paying cash on board the 747 bus: same price, but your pass will give you unlimited Metro/bus rides for 24 hours.

Our first stay at this hotel and we will most probably book it again. We booked the ZERO 1 Loft - a good-sized room with 3 very large windows - so there was no lack of daylight, as some other guests have pointed out. The walls are painted chocolate brown and this makes for darker surroundings, but this details can be seen in the photos the hotel has put up on its website, so that shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

Other positive aspects:

- Across from Chinatown and all its restaurants and shops
- A five (5) to seven (7) minute walk to Old Montreal
- In the heart of the entertainment district (a few blocks from Place des Arts)
- Close to train station and bus routes

Some not so positive aspects:

- Complimentary muffins and coffee are supposed to be provided to guests every day, but we went down shortly after 9:00AM and there was none of either. A member of the staff pointed out these are offered only until 9:00AM. This was not mentioned anywhere in the documentation provided upon our arrival or verbally by the staff. There are no signs to that effect either.
- 23$/day for valet parking is somewhat steep and you have to provide a 30-minute notice to get your car.
- Hotel drop-off area is in the back of the hotel - and no signs to that effect when you arrive in front. You have to go around the corner for main entrance.
- No restaurant on-site but one is planned for 2013 and this is no surprise either, as it appears on hotel website also.

The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful, but could use some more training and act more "professional". We got the sense that everyone helping us is a new employee and for a hotel that's been opened for over a year, this should not be the case.

This is a perfect destination for couples wishing to take in what downtown Montreal and Old Montreal can offer. :)

After a 12 hour day of driving my group arrived at 11pm to discover that the hotel had oversold, despite pre-calling to confirm the booking and room allocations. This resulted in the hotel trying to fit 6 of us into 3 single rooms (having booked 3 twin share rooms), with a cot bed that obviously didn't fit. The last of our group got into their rooms at 1am with people sleeping on a 2-seat sofa. They offered us individual rooms the following day and then charged for all but one, despite being apologetic they would not back down on charging us for THEIR mistake. The hotel has not returned e-mails or calls, we stay at hotels all over the world and this has by far been the most appalling for customer service.

Have been here in late July and must stay was really impressed.
The hotel was very clean, modern and the staff were all friendly and willing to help.
Having lived in Montreal previously I was not to keen on the location, however it ended up being really good.
Additionally, there is a little shop that is accessible through the hotel which is great if you arrive late at night.
The only complaint would be the bathroom storage, there is hardly any and the little shelf available was wobbly and couldn't hold any of my things.
Will come back if in the city.

Have been here for the past two nights.
Pros:
1) central location, just across the road from Chinatown, airport bus drop off, walking distance to Vieux Montreal, museum etc
2) I thought the design was quite cool and modern. I had a view of the park behind with the autumn colors
3) spacious room
4) fantastic high speed wifi
5) fair pricing, not cheap but definitely not staggering

Cons:
1) only one elevator so had to wait some time during peak hours
2) room could do with a bit more furniture, maybe a sofa or armchair. There was a lot of room!
3) receptionist said that there was complimentary muffins and coffee in the morning. When I cme own at around 945am, nothing in sight, maybe they had run out
