“Neighborhood find, with something new”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 6, 2012 via mobile

Grenadine is tiny...and a bit funky in the way it's squashed into its little footprint, but the food is outstanding! The new part, for us, is that they serve no alcohol, but welcome you to bring your own. Our dinner was fabulous, at a much lower price than the previous night. Mains were duck breast and veal shank (BBQ sauced), which followed a mushroom salad appetizer and mushroom soups. The soup, especially, was as good as any soup I've ever had! Everything was worth writing home (or to TA) for. We come from a place where you can bring your own wine, which we often do, or order from the restaurant, but this arrangement is a first. It works!

“Lovely food, nice service, a good find”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 6, 2012

We went late on a Saturday evening. Grenadine is in a converted old apartment in a residential block so it's not obvious to find unless you know the address. (It's between Ontario and Sherbrooke).

The dining room is an L-shape and is rather loud since the tables are close together and the restaurant is very small. We sat at the back and noticed that the decor was not very well done. A wall lamp shade was ripped and placed so low so that it would be in the way of someone getting up from their chair.

However, the food is the main attraction here. And it was very good. We started with the cold cauliflower soup du jour and a nice salad with ginger, which we both appreciated. We had the goat cheese ravioli; the shame was only that there was just one piece. I could have happily had more. The accompanying bacon jam was an excellent partner. The Magret de Canard with its beautiful cherry sauce was sublime and I was glad we both ordered it so I could eat the whole thing. It came with nice celery root purée and roasted veg assorted and well chosen. Lastly, we enjoyed the Creme Brulée, which did not disappoint.

This is a bring your own bottle restaurant, which helps lower the bill at the end however note that the price of the bottles of water is rather overblown at $7.

This is the kind of restaurant in love with food makes you want to go out to eat more often. I will go back!

“When French cuisine still give emotion !”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2012

Not a very complicated menu. But a perfect rainbow of choices. Everything is perfectly prepared, nice to see in the plate and delicious in the mouth. Time line is respected and you don't have to wait too much. The service is good and efficient. You must reserved as the restaurant is very often full.

“Not to be missed”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 29, 2012

Although often overlooked by the critics, this is one of my favorite restaurants in Montreal. I has the horse steak and is was as tender and tasty as can be. The seared duck breast was so perfectly cooked and not greasy, that it could easily have been confused with a fine steak. Dessert here was delightfully rich, but small enough to not overwhelm the palate. They even gave us a small appetizer while we were waiting for our table. What class! Best of all, the meal was reasonably priced and service was everything that I hoped for.

The only thing I can add it this restaurant is very small and the food is excellent, so it is always packed. Therefor, reservations are essential.
