“Authentic Southern Italian Cuisine in Montreal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2013

If you want a taste of Italy's finest southern Italian cuisine, including pasta aliolio, frutte di marre, and veal parmesan (made by special request), try Vago. This neighbourhood restaurant is not on any tourist route, but it's only 10 minutes by car or taxi from all the downtown hotels. The owner's infectious bellowing laugh adds to the fun. Enjoy!

“Some things are great, some are okay”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 6, 2013

Among the great things I would include the atmosphere. The restaurant is nicely decorated and has an inviting feel to it. Other great things would be the butternut squash soup. Don't expect a heavy, creamy soup, though, just a bowl of amazingly flavored warm soup. Yum. Also, the dessert crepes with mascarpone is truly a delight.
On the other hand, the mains are okay. The linguine pescatore has a very generous amount of seafood, a flavorful sauce, although on the salty side. The veal scaloppine is okay, but not something I would go out of my way to eat.
The wine list is limited and the bottles are expensive.
The service is friendly and attentive.
Good, high-end style restaurant, but the quality of the dishes is hit or miss depending on your taste. I like it, but I don't love it. You be the judge.

“Excellent food every time I go”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 26, 2012

Always love the food there. Been at least 8-10 times. Have yet to find something I don't like. Especially good are the Risotto Primavera and the veal dishes. The Linguine Pescatore is huge and overflowing with clams, shrimp, scallops, and other delights...really too much for one person. People complaining about small portions I am surprised about, perhaps they are used to getting quantity not quality.

Only complaints I would have...

The staff can be inconsistent depending on what night or time you go. I did have one young fellow on one visit who was obviously new who would spill water in a rush to fill up your glass. Otherwise, the regular wait staff are excellent.

The dining area spans around the central bar, and on a busy night it gets very crowded and can get noisy. If you want something quieter, see if you can get a seat by the windows in the front corner facing the street. They also have a downstairs area accessed via spiral staircase from the back of the restaurant, good for private parties. It tends to be quieter, when it is open.

Prices are what you would expect for a restaurant in the swanky neighbourhood of Westmount. You have art galleries, antique dealers, and real estate agents selling multimillion dollar homes nearby so don't expect "Olive Garden" prices.

“Westmount Greene Avenue Neighbourhood restaurant”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 16, 2012

Very noisy. Patrons loud and agressive. The waiter was clumsy and disinterested, in a rush, sloppy water and wine pouring and food arrived almost immediately. Food was average italian. Wine was excellent. Menu is extensive. The restaurant was full on a Saturday night. The ability to accommodate small crowds as well as large parties in a discreet manner must be an attraction. A large party room in the rear of the main floor. Ability to walk to a restaurant in the neighbourhood on a Saturday night is a plus.

“Long time reliability”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 4, 2012

Nothing out of the ordinary, but dependable Westmount restaurant. My seafood pasta had so much shellfish, it was hard to find the linguine!
